those coming off as arrogant and close minded are those who are the catholics here, for th most part anyway. I have a question, when one accepts this god Jesus into their life, is it a requirement to turn off any and extra avenues of thought? If so, then you can count me out. What is so wrong with Jesus getting married? It hasn’t worked out well for the priests of the catholic church to abstain. Seems like the Jew makes an interesting point.
Say What? Could you please explain what you meant by it hasn’t worked out well for the priests of the Catholic Church to abstain? I do not understand this.

I’m sure he’s referring to either the pedophile cases or possibly the huge drop in folks entering the Priesthood.

The first guess of the NDfan was the correct answer for rinnie. I am not trying to cause anyone to be upset, but I do not have a problem with being blunt; just as others on here have not had a problem with being blunt against the Jews ways of doing things. I think that it is smart of rabbi’s to be required for marriage and I think the catholic church has shown why. I do want to say for the record that I know these incidents are not isolated to the Catholic church and to unmarried persons, but the #'s speak to where the temptation seems to be the highest. Any and all excuses used to downplay the horrid acts that have taken place will be ignored. There is no excuse for such behavior and there is little that can cover, justify, or rectify what has been done to too many children who trusted those in charge of them.

I am at a loss here why it is considered so taboo that Jesus would be married. Isn’t marriage a celebration of life and isn’t God the creator of life? I just do not get the “but but but’s” taking place in this thread.

Yes I am sure you are right. Well all I can tell him is do not blame all Priest’s who gave up their life for our Lord. Yes some Priest’s have fallen from Grace. There is no excuse for the evil that has been done, and the Church has never accepted this evil either.

But do not blame a Church and the good Priests who are there today doing Gods work. And to those who condem these Priest, you just get on your hands and knees and thank our Lord Jesus that this horrible evil was not given to you by the devil. The devil prey’s on evil and does everything in his power to get to us. Just thank our Lord that you do not have to face him with this sickness.

We all have evil in us, we are all human, Instead of condemming maybe we should all pray for Gods Mercy. I am sure we all want God to have mercy on our soul. If you do not pray for Gods mercy on others what kind of mercy do you think he will have on us.

I pray every day for our priests, the devil is after the good, not the bad. Why should he go after the bad, he already has them. I do not agree with the evil that has been done, and I do agree that they should be punished. We all must pay for our sins. But that is not for me to judge a priests heart. Only God can do that. And only God know’s what kind of Mercy will be given.

But I praise all of the Good priests out there and the wonderful work they have done and still do today. Because of them, we know of God. Without God using them we would never know the truth.

Dear Jesus Please Pray for our Priests, and help them to get through the trials that they face daily. Please keep them in your Good Grace and help them to bring people to know your Glory. Amen.

No one said it was taboo for Jesus to be married. But the fact remains that he was not married. You cannot just make up something and then think that People are going to believe you. We have proven you wrong. The wedding that has been addressed was indeed not the wedding of Jesus. Jesus would not be invited to his own wedding. We are asking for scripture to prove your point. You cannot because it is not true. Please do not make up lies about our Lord Jesus. Thank-you. We asked for proof, you cannot show it. Case Closed.

I don’t think it’s taboo per se. It just doesn’t appear from scripture that we have anything telling us Jesus was married. We know there were groups like the Essenes that did not carry the requirement for leaders to be married. We also know Jesus looked favorably at the Eunuchs. One reason a Jewish man would be celibate was an intense dedication to his religion. If we look at some of the major Prophets like Jeremiah, they were not known to have wives.

As far as the pedophile issue I agree it’s horrific but what I find more interesting is that it appears the rate of homosexuality is high among the Priesthood. Although I’m not sure it’s as high as the 50% range some claim but who really knows. So even if marriage were allowed I wonder just how many Priests would actually marry.

I would imagine that the priesthood attracts homosexuals and pedophiles because it is a vocation where no one looks at you funny for not being married or dating.

Then you have never read the bible. Not even the OT alone the NT.

It always amazes me how you guys always seem to creep up right around lent. What is it about lent that bothers you?

Something to think about. But to make a statement like that could only be for one reason. To hurt us. To be mean and unkind. Do you hate Christians that much, and Jesus that much. I wonder what is really in your heart.

But I will leave now. because Christ forgives you, so I must also.

Peace be with you. Tommorow starts Lent. The suffering of our Lord. I will spend the next 40 with him.

I didn’t mean to suggest that the Church condones it. Just that homosexuals probably have a history of gravitating toward the priesthood (and hiding the fact that they were gay).

What “guys” am I part of? Nothing about lent bothers me.

In the past, an unmarried man was viewed with suspicion. A good way to avoid suspicion, IMO, would be to join the priesthood. This could explain why there seems to be a higher percentage of homosexuals in the priesthood. If there is in fact a higher percentage. I was responding to a post that had stated there was.

Enjoy lent.

 There is not proof that he was NOT married either. Just as much as the explicit statement that he was married is missing from the text of the New Testament, so is the explicit statement that he was NOT married missing. The person who started this thread at least has given a reasonable amount of evidence for thinking that he was. Those opposed have just given a bunch of “but but buts” without any real reasonable connections to state otherwise.

So, I am asking for proof that he was not, you cannot show it. But I will not be so arrogant by saying “case closed.” I will patiently wait for some concrete evidence that proves the original poster wrong. 🙂

I did not realize what you had presented in the second part of your post. Interesting and good point. It is sad and I am glad to see that you do not offer defense or excuse for the deeds. :o

For the first part of your post, I get you man (or woman, whatever the case may be). I have followed this thread for awhile now and just felt that the dogmatic views of some toward the original poster were a bit out of hand. I have said that I do not believe Jesus even existed, I say that simply meaning that I do not know. But, if he did, the points made by the original poster make sense and for all the rubbish offered him, there is little being said to prove him otherwise.

I understand that many choose a life of celibacy to devote theirselves to their religion, but this is not even evidence, let alone proof that Jesus did so… If he was god in the flesh, then it would make sense that he did not need to exert the same devotion others have. Eunuchs choose their life of singleness because they are trying to get closer to God. If one is already God, then how much closer do they need to be? Plus, there is a poster in this thread who laid a GREAT post stating a fact. how could he relate unless he was willing to take on all those roles that man takes on? Another great piece of evidence credited to the ‘jesus was married camp.’ 👍

THE WEDDING OF JESUS

Jesus was a Rabbi and here are the proofs: Matthew 23:7; John 1:38; 3:2; 20:16. The point is that a Rabbi in Israel had to be a married man. Then, according to Judaism, after the proper procedures, the Jewish prospect would undergo the ceremonial “mikveh” or immersion in waters before ordination.

After Jesus’ immersion in the Jordan River by John the Baptist, Jesus was seen during the next two days on his way to Galilee. (John 1:35,43) Then on the third day after his “mikveh” the family and friends were celebrating his wedding in Cana with Mary Magdalene.

According to the custom, the mother of the Bride would be in charge of the celebrations, but probably Mary’s parents had passed away because she used to live with her sister Martha and brother Lazarus in Bethany. I mean, they used to live with Mary who was the one well-to-do. Martha would pay her room-and-board as a maiden servant, and Lazarus… well, I think he was a loafer boy taking advantage of his rich sister. He was probably a sick man anyway.

Back to the wedding, Jesus’ mother Mary had to do the host job; and she did it quite well by giving orders around to the servants. Also, according to the custom, the Bridegroom was in charge to provide the wine, which mind you, Jesus made sure it was of the best quality. The tale of the miracle was interpolated much later to deviate the probing attention of those who have a mind of their own to find out what was really going on in Canah.

After Jesus’ wedding, you can check for yourselves, all Jesus’ come-and-goes were from and to Bethany, the home of Mary Magdalene. Then, whenever Jesus would return from his missionary campains throughout Israel, the address was Bethany. To his wife obviously, although most the time Mary Magdalene would follow Jesus as his beloved disciple. The Church later interpolated John as the “beloved disciple” for the same reason to get the mind of the readers away from the thought that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.

Do we have any evidence of a romantic approach prior or after their wedding? Of course, we do! After Jesus exorcized seven demons from Mary, she must have fallen in love with him. (Luke 8:1-3) The expression “seven demons” means the struggle that Jesus had to go through to extricate Mary from her not-so-reputable business in Magdala.

Then, in Bethany when Mary was smearing Jesus’ body with that expensive pefume, we all know, that Mary did not just throw that perfume at him from afar. Definitely not! she did smear him almost all over even in terms of massage, so much so that some of the guests thought it to be unbecoming. (Mat. 26:10-13)

Then, while everyone else would address Jesus as Rabbi, Mary would call him “Rabboni,” a colloquial term used as an expression of love, especially by a Rabbi’s wife. It also means “Master of my suffering,” as Rachel named her son Benoni before she died from child birth. (Gen. 35:18)

In another occasion, when Mary went to the tomb area after the crucifixion, and saw the empty tomb, she never suffered more in her life. She wanted to take him away with her. (John 20:15) Then, she was crying without consolation. In the middle of her travails, she saw a man standing by and throught to be the Gardener. “Why are you crying?” the man asked. Alas! She did not identify him; it was too dark. But then Jesus tried her name the way he used to call her: “Mary…!” It’s hard to say it in writing, but Mary melted all down and exclaimed" “Raboni!”

This term “Raboni”, or Master of my sufferings, is such a solemn and love-tender expression in Hebrew and Aramaic that only seldom is used out of the frame of deep love. It was then that she jumped to hug him but Jesus, probably all in bandages, forbade her to cause him any unnecessary pain. He would meet her later at more propitious circumstances. (John 20:17)

Then, after some apparitions to the disciples, Jesus said goodbye and left the company. From then on, the names of these three peoples were never mentioned again; Jesus, Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea. Jesus yes, but only in connection with his teachings by the Nazarenes, a Jewish Sect founded by his Apostles. Joseph had to go along because if he had stayed, he would probably be crucified for having cheated on Pilate regarding Jesus who was not dead when he took him off the cross.

Today, there are three speculations about their whereabouts. The first is that they settled down incognito in Talpiot, a small town not too far south of Jerusalem, where some people have claimed to have found out the graves of Yeshua, Miriam and Joseph. I went there personally but just to be told that the area could not be explored or visited by order of the local Meier for being under an Apartment building.

The second speculation is that they left Israel in the direction of Cashmere, India, where a Russian Archaeologist is claimed to have found the graves of Yeshua, Miriam and Joseph under the sign of the shield of David.

And the third, speculation is the one of the Da Vinci Code, that the three went to Europe and settled down in the Southern part of France in a small village. And that Mary gave birth to a daughter, who eventually got married into the Merovingian nobility.

Whatever happened after Jesus said goodbye to his disciples, I don’t endorse anything that has been speculated. My point is only to verify the truth about Jesus’ marriage to Mary Magdalene. If that’s true without the shadow of a doubt, we have only to be joyful that Jesus fulfilled also the commandment to get married and father children. Besides, a married man only adds to his honour for being so.

Ben:
There is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning, Ben. Don’t let anyone here tell you differently. I question my faith daily. But thankfully, my search for answers always leads me to a greater faith in the truth that the Catholic Church teaches.

Good! It doesn’t matter the end that your questions lead you to, the method is original. Keep researching
and never take faith for granted.

Yes we do have proof. Tradition, There was oral scripture long before the Bible. We have the Church, the living Christ. Our CHurch teaches that Jesus was not married. And our church was here long before the bible.

This hardly serves as proof and since you are requiring proof, it is only fair that the same should be required of you.

The concept of why what you have given is not proof is something that we have learned from an early age. I am sure you have played the game “pass on the secret.” By the time it makes it to the last person, never have I seen it fail that the original secret has been warped, most often severely.

David Koresh taught that he was the messiah. Did it make it the truth? So, your church teaching that Jesus was not married is not reason enough to believe it. The church at one time not only taught that the earth was flat, but killed those who opposed and labeled them as heritics. The church has proven itself not to be the authority on truth just because they are the church. 🍿

The church at one time not only taught that the earth was flat, but killed those who opposed and labeled them as heritics.
This is absolutely false. The Church never taught that the earth is flat. The Church has always agreed with all the ancient Greek philosophers (since Pythagoras in the 6th century BC), that the earth is a sphere.

I challenge you to produce a statement from any pope teaching that the earth is flat.

Ben:
With out reading this entire thread I will bring this discussion back to the OP.
Only someone with a twisted agenda and flair for mental mastubation could come up with such an uniformed view of the wedding at Cana. It truly is laughable.

Peace!

After going on about proof, you make a, without proof, statement that is false. Please document that people were killed because they said the world was not flat. Then show documentation that Jesus was married.
