Nah, I think your question is a deflection from the issues here. The statues we are talking about are not great works of art or architectural achievements but rather meant to directly honor specific people. It is a question on whether the people featured in the statues deserve that honor.
Why is a statue of Nero a “great work of art” but a bronze bust of Lee not one?

And why would we keep a statue of a pedophile, even if it IS considered by some to be a great work of art?

Are the pyramids deemed a “great work of art”? Yet they are monoliths built to honor slave holders.

Congratulations, you have successfully deflected from the meaning of the post and the question again.

So, thank you for reminding me of that. So, to redirect your deflection once again, let’s try this.

Why is a statue of Caligula a “great work of art” but a bronze bust of Lee not one?

And why would we keep a statue of a pedophile, even if it IS considered by some to be a great work of art?

Are the pyramids deemed a a"great work of art"? They are simple pyramidal monoliths built to honor slave holders.

Already explained in a previous post.
You have not. Insinuating that I apply the standard you referred to (bigotry accusations) is what we call bearing false witness. Did you just not quote “charity” to me? If you can’t find the standard and just presumed to treat me as a generic “them” group (assuming I’m a Democrat), you could also just admit it. It’s not the end of the world. But it does prove my point.

I gave you a way out, if you were not being bigoted against the South. Whether or not you choose to take it is up to you.

Ah, there w go. You were not “applying their own standard.” You were just applying the standard people on the right accuse SJWs of using in debates.

I hope you accuse Americans of bigotry the next time one of you guys says something like, “When we went into Iraq” “When we attacked Japan” etc etc. 😉 For consistency.

Just after you advocate Civil War 2 to stop abortion, for consistency. 😉 If someone called America evil for Japan, I would definitely accuse them of being biased against Americans.

As it is, the South stands accused of being evil your book because they were prejudiced and treated another group as inferior. I just pointed out that you were prejudiced against the South and seem to ascribe an undue moral superiority to others. If you want to disavow your broad-brush, inaccurate portrayal of an entire demographic, that is fine by me.

The Romans destroyed the statues that THEY deemed did not deserve the honor. But we are in a different world now, right? Today we know that pedophilia is an evil, so applying the same standards as we are applying to the 150 year old monuments, shouldn’t we demand they be removed from public places as well?

Of course the pyramids are great works of architecture…built by slaves as monuments for their slave owners.

The point I am trying to make is that we should not judge men of yesterday by today’s standards.

Not even close, lol. The civil war happened as a matter of history. Saying those who fought for an evil cause in that war deserve no more honor than Nazis does not mean I must advocate a new civil war “to be consistent.” That’s frankly absurd. The leap, that is. You, on the other hand, claim that to refer to “Southern Americans” when talking of things Southern American states did AS SUCH is bigotry. So you should apply that to every reference of “Americans” when talking about thing your country has done. 🙂 (or to the “Chinese” “Russians” “British” “Israelis” etc).

To claim that every Southerner who fought for the CSA was fighting for slavery is like claiming that every American who fought in Iraq was fighting for Dick Cheney, Haliburton and oil.

At the end of the day, the Civil War was a war between brothers. I would rather approach those Americans with malice toward none and charity toward all. Yes, even Southerners.

“To claim that every German soldier who fought in WW II fought to kill Jews is to claim that every American who fought in Iraq was fighting for Dick Cheney, Haliburton and oil.”

I mean, technically true, but so what? Still no interest in seeing monuments to Nazi or confederate soldiers. 🙂

Who is defending monuments to CSA soldiers, here and now in this conversation? You are tilting at windmills.

Soldiers, leaders, whoever: those people who decided blood was justified in maintaining cattle status for Black people, whoever they are. Potayto, potahto.

How bout these words? TJ didn’t write them but they could apply…

“Father forgive them, for they know not what they do…”

Americans have the right to destroy statues of men that did not uphold American honor.
Comcur3. But whats happening is right now what we have are leftist thugs doing this instead of people voting to remove them.

James Marion Sims. The statue of him in Central Park was removed two years ago. AFAIK, the memorial to him on the SC State House grounds is still there. As is the statue of Pitchfork Ben TIllman.

Rumbles have been heard lately…
