I think it should remain illegal.
Of course you do.

You also think heretics should be publicly scourged, and that the Earth and Universe are only 6,000 years old, and God only knows what other medieval beliefs you hold.

Are you sure you’re not a time traveler from 13th century Europe?

The fact that you think Middle Age justice means ISIS suggests to me you know nothing of the time or of the relative freedom and justice experienced during that age in Christendom. I suggest you research this as you will be illuminated.

Nice bluffing tactics but how about you tell us what they did and what was good about it?

They liked it and said it made them happier for sure but most of them could not remember anything they thought, said or done while they were under the drug. Maybe with regular use this no longer happens but the idea that I would have complete blackout really scares me
Blackouts from cannabis are EXCEEDINGLY rare.

I’d say, probably 1 out of every 100,000 users experience blackouts from cannabis usage. If it’s even that high…

I’ve personally known hundreds of people who have smoked, perhaps thousands. Not a single one ever once experienced a cannabis-induced blackout.

I do, however, think that the situation should be looked at in a way to reduce the impact on law enforcement resources. Keep drug possession offenses as a ticket offense and destroy the drugs instead of filling up the jails and draining resources
That’s called decriminalization. Which is what myself and a majority of people in this thread support… that, and rescheduling to Schedule II - if not to be used medically, at least to open doors for it to be studied for potential medicinal uses.

Imagine if a chemical in cannabis was the key to curing cancer - but it remains locked away and unable to be discovered, studied, and developed due to our current draconian scheduling of cannabis alongside heroin and PCP?

Everything is being studied to cure cancer. Maybe some armed guards could watch the researchers as they conduct trials, determine potency and meet the rules the FDA requires.

I suggest you read the work of Hans-Hermann Hoppe and check out some of the work at the Mises Institute. You’ll find plenty of free resources to enlighten you regarding this subject.

It goes to support gang activity where large shipments go south of the border and guns return north of the border.
Instead of marijuana in Canada, they deal fentanyl and its even deadlier cousin carfentanil along with heroin and cocaine.
Julian Fantino
The faux conservative ex-MP saw a large cheque that he’ll get once legalization happens. Mammon-worshipper is Mr. Fantino’s name.
And speaking about Toronto, another former police chief, Bill Blair, now in the Trudeau government faced ethics questions over a fundraiser held by a law firm that lobbied to legalize pot. Trudeau’s party had a millionaire cannabis-grower as it’s Chief Financial Officer prior to Trudeau’s election.
Legalization is all about money, tens if not hundreds of billions.

I still think the war on drugs has caused more harm than it prevents.
And that’s the rub. We are ruining lives to save lives. I am not for legalization, but I do think we need to take possession and use out of the criminal system.

"Not disagreeing with you. If we lived under a Catholic Monarch or some other government that’s law was rooted in Catholicism or if it was a state religion that would be an argument.

However, in the US, that is not the case. The US is a secular government that derives it’s powers from the consent of the governed. If the governed want things legalized and can get enough popular support, that is what it will be."

My argument is not IF it could be legalized… Its already happening. We’ve already learned that a largely secular society will end up with:

abortion on demand
unlimited pornography
euthanasia
countless forms of Marriage
ect ect

My reply is a “Catholic living Answer”. (IE will this offend God and send me to hell) According to Catholic teaching it is against OUR Law. God does NOT give us a vote.

No one said U.S. drug laws always made sense.

That’s been an ongoing issue with marijuana. It’s extremely hard to obtain permission to study Schedule I substances legally, and the FDA has not been generous in granting the required permits. Schedule I also means it’s extremely hard to grow legally, and you pretty much can’t engage in any sort of selective breeding.

Honestly I think keeping it at Schedule I is silly. Moving it down to Schedule II would at least open it up to legitimate research. Honestly, Xanax is well known for abuse and addiction too, and I was completely legally carrying that in my purse for ages.

Infectious agents aren’t controlled under the same law, so it’s a lot easier to research those so long as you have the appropriate lab equipment.

Anyone know the av THC level in this stuff , in the states?

Why am I asking?

Because the level is very relevant to this discussion. And are there going to be ongoing tests or laws put in place to limit THC levels?

This is not your father’s weed.

Colorado marijuana is nearly twice as potent as illegal pot of past decades, and some modern cannabis packs triple the punch of vintage ganja, lab tests reveal for the first time.

In old-school dope, levels of THC — the psychoactive chemical that makes people high — were typically well below 10 percent. But in Colorado’s legal bud, the average THC level is 18.7 percent, and some retail pot contains 30 percent THC or more, according to research released Monday.
What LaFrate didn’t see, however, also astonished him. The 600-plus weed samples generally carried little or no cannabidiol, or CBD — the compound that makes medical marijuana “medical.” The average CBD amount: 0.1 percent, his study reports.

CBD is anecdotally known to control depression, anxiety, and pain. About 200 families with ill children also moved to Colorado to access a strain called Charlotte’s Web, which appears to control seizures in some kids.

“It’s disturbing to me because there are people out there who think they’re giving their kids Charlotte’s Web. And you could be giving them no CBD — or even worse, you could be giving them a THC-rich product which might actually increase seizures,” LaFrate said. “So, it’s pretty scary on the medical side."

The majority of samples tested came from recreational-pot merchants. Under Colorado law, recreational weed must be tested for potency. Some medical-pot sellers voluntarily provided samples to LaFrate. Colorado does not require pre-sale testing of medical marijuana. LaFrate did not analyze any edibles.

That’s truly disturbing. Australia is looking to become a huge supplier of medical cannabis.
Claims have to be backed up with scientific analysis.

We are around 30% THC in many varietals here, in Aus. Smoking that is a one way trip to a hospital room.
I wonder how soon states that have legalised use of cannabis will be sued for allowing that to happen legally with no regulations.

I find it curious that none of this discussion is centering on such basic issues. We know the alcohol content of beer vs vodka. It must be legally listed on the bottle.

That’s definitely a major issue - and they’re complaining that newer breeds have lower and lower amounts of CBD versus higher amounts of THC, as they’re being bred primarily for the recreational market.

We also need to develop a reliable test for marijuana intoxication. The current tests measure past use, but can’t tell the difference between having some 2 hours ago and 2 days ago.

I spent about half of my less than three-decade life smoking pot every day and hanging out pretty much exclusively with stoners. It’s a bad culture and a bad drug. You want to know why pot is worse than heroin?

No one tries to tell kids heroin is good for them.
