Anyone have them or have a BF or husband who had or has one? Thoughts?
I think the main issue with it is that it’s tightly wound up with purity culture, which is an unhealthy and unchristian approach to sexuality. It’s more a symbol of being countercultural I guess.
Being a thief or being a murderer has always been condemned by society in general but being chaste is now seen as an aberration and those who practice it are often the objects of ridicule.
Personally speaking, I choose to not wear the ring but I don’t have any problems with those who choose otherwise.
More to the point, chastity recognizes the positive gift of sex as being subordinate (as all gifts are) to the grace of giving oneself to God and the life of sanctity that God intended for us when we were made, even to the point of giving that gift up entirely, if that is God’s will for us. That is, after all, the point of everything. The focus should be on chastity, which allows us to define and value ourselves not by our sins but by God’s love and forgiveness.
Bingo. Purity culture views sex as a dirty thing, while proper sexual theology views sex as a good thing that has a time and a place.More to the point, chastity recognizes the positive gift of sex as being subordinate (as all gifts are) to the grace of giving oneself to God and the life of sanctity that God intended for us when we were made, even to the point of giving that gift up entirely, if that is God’s will for us.
