Unfortunately, many of the newly elected Governors who were elected in November, 2010, have inherited a mess. Much of the stimulus money that went to the states was used to keep state public union employees and union teachers working, while the private sector was forced to make cuts and layoff workers union and non-union n order to stay in business. Now that this stimulus money has run out, many states will have to cut state employees and teachers, and also cut benefits to balance the state budgets.
While the rest of us have had to pay more for health care and retirement (or lost part of it in a 401K) and have not had raises, these public employees have not had to endure any of this. I feel it is time to equal the playing field. Also, when people were laid off in the private sector you did not see all this obnoxious behavior from them.

Honestly, I am so tired of hearing that ‘jobs’ excuse. First they needed confidence in the economy, then they needed extension of tax cuts, now what else is standing in the way of the the ‘job creators’, pray tell? I have a suggestion for job seekers: go back to school if you can, get some training…create your own jobs however small and be your own bosses: that has to work better than placing hope in failed economic policies that are guaranteed to perpetuate the stagnation of middle class income for the forseeable future.

I thought by now everyone was clear on this point. But I’ll say it here again. This struggle is not about money. The Republican governors involved have admited as much. It’s union busting, plain and simple. Remember, the workers have already agreed to concessions. All the Gov. has to do. Is sit down at the table and negotiate.
If you really think the behavior of the workers is so bad. I’d say this to you. If you won’t fight for your rights, You don’t deserve to have them. Remember also, Grothman and his fellow senators. They are the ones who picked this fight. It’s ironic that in doing so.They may be breathing new life into the unions they despise.
Lastly. I’m a public worker who’s not seen a raise in four years. Last year we conceeded 4% of our pay to prevent layoffs. Everyone knows these are hard times. You can’t blame them for trying to hold on to a little of what they have.

What you don’t understand is that the tired sick mule called government is broke. It cannot pull your wagon. You can get mad at it and beat the **** out of it with your stick if you want. Why do you insist on holding on to the false belief that this is about money? The Unions have given in to ALL of Gov. Walker’s fiscal demands. All he needs to do is remove the language about ending collective bargaining in the bill, and he gets his balanced budget and this whole issue goes away. The Democratic Senators can be back in Wisconsin voting on the bill in two hours.
This is not about money. It’s about power.

No I’ve been paying attention all right. Teachers with six figure salaries and benefits are whining that they will actually have to contribute something out of their own pocket. I will concede one thing, it is also about power, a public employee union had too much of it and it’s being dealt with properly.
It’s about money and power, pocketbook and political bias tend to put a person on one side of the fence or the other.
Taxpayers had too little power and were being robbed in exchange for public employee donations union dues to go to reelection campaigns.

Any group that receives their pay from the taxpayers, like teachers, police, firefighters, etc., should be banned from forming a union or from collective bargaining.
If you have noticed, unions have lost most of their influence in the private sector. It is only in the public sector that they still have power and it is a power that tries to extort money from the abused taxpayer.

Yes, but many of them are making poor decisions. I am ashamed of what is happening in my own state and am considering jumping party for the first time in my life. I think the Republicans are designing their own downfall this year.
