Let’s me see if I have this correct.

A few of the truly major claims to fame of the GOP are:
  1. Its role (Lincoln) in helping rid the USA of slavery.
  2. Women’s right to vote – two Republican women wrote the text for the 19th amendment.
  3. Their role in passing Civil Rights legislation (by percentage more Republicans voted for it, than Democrats).
  4. The Panama Canal – Republican President.
  5. Construction of the Hoover Dam – Republican President. It changed the southwest.
  6. Republican Jessie Owens wins four gold medals – in 1936!
  7. Republican Jackie Robinson became the first black player to play professional baseball.
  8. Desegregating of schools – Republican President.
  9. Reagan helped revive a fallen economy.
  10. Reagan, along with the Pope, helped bring down the Soviet Union.
  11. Reagan’s famous line: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”
  12. Republicans have fought to stop legal abortion for more forty years.
  13. Republicans have fought to keep traditional marriage the legal definition in the land.
  14. Republicans have fought to keep government small, and liberty vast.
  15. And now, the front-runner for the GOP routinely says: "I will build the wall!"
How far has the Grand Ole Party fallen that instead of driving for liberty for all, we now see the nation’s Republicans pushing to build walls.

As we look back to the powerful words spoken by Reagan (TEAR DOWN THIS WALL), one can easily imagine his heart, and the hearts of all Republicans of great merit, would cry today to hear such words coming from a Republican front-runner.

I certainly am in agreement with you in so far as I love the Republican party and hope it never nominates any candidate as bad as Trump.

But comparing a wall on our southern border with the Berlin Wall? Sorry, but I’m definitely not with you there. A wall is one acceptable path we could pursue for securing the border, and the fact that Trump talks about it ad nauseum doesn’t change that.

Looks like there is some strategy playing out with some in the GOP:

(1) Bush has meeting with Rubio, Cruz, Kasich.
(2) Cruz gets out of FL.
(3) Rubio says go Kasich in OH.
(4) Cruz in NC, MO, IL

Quite right about Rubio.

Just now he suggested that his supporters in Ohio consider voting for Kasich to stop Trump:

Well, we disagree. There are much better ways to handle the immigration situation. Building walls might stem the tide, but so will other methods. Never in my not terribly short life have I ever imagined the USA would start building actual physical walls. I see it as a complete human failure.

I am not seeing what’s wrong with it. We have to remember that while 35% of the voters are for Trump, there remains a strong 60-65% who do not want Trump and they have every right to use the process to obtain a different nominee. If Trump wins the 1237 delegates outright, then the majority will have spoken and he will be the nominee. But, so long as there is not a majority, all bets are off.

I also don’t see people changing their votes based on these tactics.

Washington Post:
In anti-Trump move, Rubio frees up Ohio supporters to vote for Kasich
Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio’s campaign is urging supporters to vote against Donald Trump in Ohio, and instead back John Kasich. (Reuters)
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Friday gave the green light to supporters in Ohio to vote for Gov. John Kasich in Tuesday’s presidential primary in order to stop GOP front-runner Donald Trump, an unusual tactic that comes as Rubio is trying to rally the anti-Trump vote in Florida behind his candidacy and which could complicate Trump’s path to the nomination.
The move was the latest sign that Trump continues to occupy the center of the GOP race and affect virtually every major strategic decision in the contest. Heading into next Tuesday’s crucial slate of primaries, Trump is well-positioned to add to his delegate lead and could deal a knockout blow to Rubio and Kasich by beating them in their home states.
But there were no immediate signs of a smooth coordinated effort between the campaigns and outside groups aligned against Trump. Kasich’s campaign did not respond to Rubio’s comments warmly. Meanwhile, a pro-Rubio super PAC did not bow to the Kasich campaign’s subsequent demand that it stop running television ads against the Ohio governor.

I don’t see why Rubio is not exiting the race and endorsing cruz.

And if you take Cruz’s #'s, around 75-80% don’t want him. It works both ways. 😉

I am in no way convinced that all, or even most, of the #3 and #4 candidates’ voters will go to Cruz.

I think he (along with Cruz and Kasich) knows that if he drops, his supporters will not all follow whomever he supports. In other words, some percentage of Rubio voters will go to Cruz, Kasich and Trump. So, the best thing to do, if they want to stop Trump from reaching 1237, is to all stay in the race.

Cruz is the only one who has a chance during the primary elections…so kicking the can to the convention is their only tactic left.

I am not saying what will happen to any of their voters–I am just saying I see nothing wrong with the tactic.

I do think most (not all) of Rubio voters would go to Kasich and Cruz, and only a small number to Trump.

Next Tuesday will really show us where this thing is heading.

But Cruz doesn’t want a brokered convention either. I think they have a plan but not sure if it’ll work.

Cruz says he doesn’t want a brokered convention and I believe he doesn’t. But Cruz (and the others) never said they had a problem with a contested convention–there is a difference.

I think it is clear what their plans are. They want to get to the convention and then do their first vote for a nominee. Then, assuming Trump does not have the requisite 1237 delegates after the first vote, the convention moves to fight for delegates. Contested versus brokered.

Of course, the Tuesday results will tell us a lot.

Yessir.🙂

How about an “open” convention? Check out this video of Harry Truman giving his reasons for not attending the 1960 Democratic convention – because it wouldn’t be open, just a coronation of JFK. He stated an open convention would be democratic, both small “d” and big “D”.

These are in the good/bad old days when primaries were beauty contests and all delegates were what we now call super-delegates; elected officials, party officials, &c. Now that we elect candidates thru primaries I can’t see a big improvement.

Oh thank goodness. :thankyou:

I’ve been really hoping that he would do the right thing (Edit: I’m not giving off too much of a I-know-better-than-the-senator vibe by saying that, am I? :o) but with each day that we get closer to March 15 I feel a little more concerned that he might throw the whole race to Mr. Trump.

👍

Personally, I switched my support from Rubio to Cruz last week. I don’t think of myself as a “Tea Party Republican”, but I greatly prefer Cruz to Trump, Clinton, or Sanders.

I’ve been supporting Cruz all this time because A) we are from the same state and B) much more important, only he seems to have what it takes to overcome Trump and then HRC.
