**Cruz Stands by Pledge Unless Trump Shoots Someone
**
Yeah, I saw some coverage that had headlines like that, too. Apparently some people don’t understand what the word “example” means. 😉
“Well I can give you one example where I would no longer support Donald Trump,” Cruz told reporters in Rockford, Illinois. “If, for example, he were to go out on Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, I would not be willing to support Donald Trump.”

If people are serious about stopping Trump, they need to vote for Cruz. Rubio and Kasich cannot get the nomination anymore than Trump can without offending base voters (they probably won’t even get 12% of the primary vote).

The best case scenario I see at this point is Cruz winning the delegate count outright.
Though Cruz could possibly get enough delegates for the nomination, he would likely have trouble in the general election against either Democratic candidate. Rubio or Kasich would be much stronger general election candidates. All is subject to change, of course.

Our media is so ridiculously literal that it’s almost funny. 😃

The last paragraph doesn’t make sense:

The Texas senator also said over the weekend that Hillary Clinton “would do even more damage” to the country and be “the lesser of two evils.”

Hillary would do “more damage” but still be “the lesser of two evils?”

Doesn’t make sense.

Nice catch. ???

Has anyone heard rumors about this “Order 66” that will supposedly let Trump win tomorrow even in Ohio?

In terms of the general election you’re right. (I was referring to people voting or not voting in the primary.) I have even been hearing talk about Trump supporters wanting him to run third-party if Cruz gets the nomination, and non-Trump supporters wanting someone to run third-party if Trump gets the nomination.
I know a lot of conservatives that admit they made a mistake in sitting out elections because McCain and then Romney were not the best choices for conservatives. After 2 terms of Obama, they will now vote for whoever the Republican candidate is.

Hmmm … so they wouldn’t vote for Romney or McCain but they will now vote for Trump if he gets the nomination? Suddenly I think I have a little indigestion. 😊

Except Kasich hasn’t returned the favor. He claims he isn’t in the business of suggesting how voters should vote. But I’m wondering if Kasich figures let Trump knock out Rubio in FL and that will leave Trump, Cruz, and himself remaining and then maybe at a brokered convention Kasich will be the establishment pick. 🤷
That’s interesting. I haven’t heard anyone suggesting that. The “not-in-the-mud” Kasich not holding up his end for Rubio.

Clever.

I really disappointed in him. In fact I’m disappointed in pretty much the whole Republican party, and I don’t mean just the “establishment”.
I agree. Part of the problem is a lot of GOP politicians are looking over their shoulder because the base, in many cases, betrays its own values.

It is amazing that now some have supposedly learned their lesson, but we know there will be a brand group that won’t vote for Trump–so, as I have said, Republicans are often their own worse enemies. They so often refuse to vote for an imperfect candidate, which just leads to more Democrats winning.

I’ve seen this tactic mentioned a lot among Facebook friends for today’s primaries: Florida voters vote Rubio; Ohio voters vote Kasich; everyone else vote Cruz.

It is somewhat compelling to me as a strategy to minimize the delegates Trump wins today. One friend, though, pointed out that—if the strategy actually works today—it will only keep Kasich and Rubio in the race longer and then make it easier for Trump to win other winner-take-all states further down the road.

Honestly, I’m not sure of the polls and the delegate math to really say for sure what approach is best. I suppose that’s the risk in attempting to vote “strategically” rather than just voting for who we think is best.

And when he starts with his usual politics of personal destruction, she will pull the gender card and gain symphony from the uninformed voters.
She might pull voters who want to vote for a woman. But other than that, not many like her. Some like her husband but even he is losing his sheen.

Good point, Lily.

Ialsop, don’t get me started on how ridiculous the media is (please ;)). I think this described the situation pretty well, from the Washington Post today:
In a preview of what Republicans will face from Democrats if Trump does win the nomination, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee just released this new video, juxtaposing choice footage of Trump’s ugliest and craziest moments, with numerous vulnerable Republican Senators all pledging to support the eventual nominee, whoever it is.
This represents an elaborate trolling exercise — it is a Web video whose timing seems deliberately chosen to rub salt in the GOP’s festering Trump wound at exactly the moment when he’s poised to rack up big victories. But as Mike DeBonis reports, it signals a very real onslaught that is soon to come from Democrats, in an effort to “yoke vulnerable Republican senators to their party’s divisive presidential front-runner.”
You can read the rest at Democrats rub salt in the GOP’s festering Trump wound

One thing I would like to add is that the video omits the fact that Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, and 14 other candidates (*including *Trump) pledged to support the Republican nominee several months ago, not recently – although of course recently they’ve been pressed by media about whether they will stand by their pledges. (Josh Earnest likewise omitted that fact when he said that “each of the Republican candidates has already taken an oath pledging to support Donald Trump for president of the United States if he wins the nomination” – which of course was not the way the pledge was worded anyhow.)

I am not seeing what’s wrong with it. We have to remember that while 35% of the voters are for Trump, there remains a strong 60-65% who do not want Trump and they have every right to use the process to obtain a different nominee. If Trump wins the 1237 delegates outright, then the majority will have spoken and he will be the nominee. But, so long as there is not a majority, all bets are off.

I also don’t see people changing their votes based on these tactics.
Why does everybody assume that the 60% of voters who prefer another candidate are part of the #NeverTrump coalition?

If Rubio really wants to keep Trump out, he needs to release his Florida supporters to Cruz. Trump winning Florida pretty much makes it impossible for any of the other candidates to win sufficient delegates to clinch the nomination.

Clever.
I’m trying to stay positive today. I’ll give my negative comments tomorrow. (Well, or maybe during the second of third of You know who’s victory speeches tonight. ;))
