Because “bathing costume” is a more general statement that covers all sorts of swimwear, bikinis included.

It’s the same way that if he were to be making a general statement about hats, he would say “hat” and not fedoras or beanies or sombreros.
So I googled “bathing costume” and brought up images; they’re rendered in page ranked order.

You lose on bathing costume. I’d snicker, but I like you guys.

I didn’t ask you for a better question. I wrote the question and specifically had in the question the following phrase “she admits it is her intention”

And now you want to re-write my question and side step my point.
If you’re going to argue about people’s appearances, then a better question is required regardless of whether you like it or not.

Let’s face facts, your scenario is unrealistic. You can never tell what people are like out in the open just from the way they look. Besides, even if a woman were to admit to you, I can tell you from experience that it takes more than appearances to get people’s attention.

Heck I went grocery shopping with my sister who was wearing sleeveless just like a lot of women around. Strangely enough, there were a lot of nuns at the grocery store that day.

Care to guess whose outfits drew more of my attention?

The nuns.

Unlike the Party of Modesty however, I chose not to let my eyes tell me about what I’m looking at. People’s clothes are none of my business.
Deliberately offending people is. And I can do that with a messy yard as easily with pizza breath.
With your breath, I can see a few remotely likely scenarios.
With your yard however, the only way that would work is if you were to plant a mutant garden and neighborhood pets have suddenly gone missing.

Side stepper…always want to re-write stuff when you run out of runway.
Lesee, I’m pretty sure I said something longer yet you only care to nit-pick this and not deal with the whole rationale of that post.

Yeah I think it’s that time again.

I am sorry. Getting punchy and tired. East coaster. Time for the rack.
Ah, I see
Technically your syllogism isn’t probably an error of the undistributed middle term.
I know it isn’t, but thanks for admitting to it.
But something is wrong with it.
Hmmm, it’d be nice if you could enlighten me as to what is wrong with it rather than just claiming something is wrong with it.
The pope mentioned “bathing costumes” (we’re not sure what language he wrote his letter in originally).
why does it matter what language he wrote it in? Are you trying to suggest that by “bathing costume” the pope didn’t actually mean “bathing costume?” Given the context, I’d make the educated guess that he did.
We all probably did a double take when we first saw that term “bathing costumes”. If we googled it, we’d probably only get the Pope’s citation!!
Mmmmmm, nope! I google searched images of “bathing costume” and guess what came up? Bikinis, swim trunks, one pieces, muslim bathing attire… etc etc

I google searched “bathing costume” and the very FIRST site that came up was this one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimsuit

But it came up with 10,300,000 results, so there are others, inclusing this one: thefreedictionary.com/bathing+costume
So, to claim in “B” that bikini is the most popular term…sort of goes against “a”.
How does it go against A? Because you assumed (for no good reason) that bathing costumes didn’t include bikinis? Google search bathing costume and you’ll see that you are quite wrong.
if it is the most popular form of “bathing costume”…why didn’t the Pope use it. Why would he deliberately NOT use it.
Because bikinis are not the ONLY types of bathing costumes. There are swim trunks, 1 pieces, muslim swimwear. etc etc… Instead of listing all of them, he just used a general term that included all. Seems logical enough to me, no?
So A and B and C are not really forced, from a logical point of view. They sort of get stopped between A and B.
Sorry, but it seems to me that you are using every twist possible to keep from seeing that which is staring you right in the face.

Sidestepping again. Go back to that set of questions and answer them exactly as written, sincerely. No more responses to you until you do that.

You were the who used popularity as a measure. Google is far more reflective of popular notions of terms than a stale dictionary.
I said “general” not “popular”. Honestly, your lack of skill with words is starting to offend me.

Dictionary states bathing costume is “any apparel worn for swimming or sunbathing, such as a woman’s one-piece garment covering most of the torso but not the limbs”.

Bikinis fall under that. So do men’s swimming trunks. In fact, you can even include scuba suits.

I did, in the very post you snipped out and nit-picked. I won’t stop responding if you keep doing that.

Just bc someone doesn’t use mouth wash doesn’t mean they are deliberately offending ppl. just bc someone wears shorts on a hot day doesn’t mean they are deliberately offending ppl.

🙂

I googled bathing costume images and I definitely see multiple bikinis on there. the first one is right on the top row!

google.com/search?hl=en&q=bathing+costume&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1680&bih=891&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

.
The pope’s original language is crucial if you want to understand his meaning.

I did show you below. You inserted B outside of the Pope’s statement. I pointed out that if the pope felt that bikini best fit his meaning, you need to explain why he didn’t use this term, and instead used bathing costume.

I then showed below that google images of bathing costumes brings up very very very few binkinis.

If you click through the pages brought up in your search --you will find that even bikinis are included in the “bathing costume” .
You don’t find anywhere near a plurality. It’s like one per page. Staggering minority.

Just bc someone doesn’t use mouth wash doesn’t mean they are deliberately offending ppl. just bc someone wears shorts on a hot day doesn’t mean they are deliberately offending ppl.

If a woman deliberately wears a low cut dress so she attracts the eyes of men and women, what is the full list of reasons why someone might do this?

And in that full and generous list…is there any possibility that any of the items might be sinful?

I see what he did. He googled bathing costume–went through checking the sites-- until he found the one that met his need. Pretty sneaky.

Wow so you’re an expert of Papal Language? That’d be amazing… if it actually existed.
I pointed out that if the pope felt that bikini best fit his meaning, you need to explain why he didn’t use this term, and instead used bathing costume.
Hey people, why don’t I replace a few words in Ed’s statement?

I pointed out that if the pope felt that steaks best fit his meaning, you need to explain why he didn’t use this term, and instead used meat products.
