Hahahaha

so now I “lost” because even though bathing costumes include bikinis, you somehow conclude that bikinis aren’t the most popular form of bathing costume due to google images? 😃

You are too funny, and I agree with walking. You, my friend, have royally shot yourself in the foot. It’s been fun.
You said “most popular by far” for “bathing costume”

And you were way off. And what’s worse is you can’t face it. That’s the real problem.

Google sorts by default to popularity / page rank.

Google showed dramatically different evidence.
Ah, I see I see. By google you mean YOUR search, right? Because all the other searches provided to you stated that bathing costume is a direct sinonym for bathing suit. The most popular form of bathing suit is what? yup, you guessed it. Bikinis.

But it’s ok, we can pretend you won. With that being said, let me rephrase my earlier claim, so you can admit that you were wrong:

A + B = C

A. The pope speaks of partial nudity being ok in some situations, and specifically mentions that wearing “bathing costumes” at a “bathing place” is not at all immoral.

B. Bikinis are a form of “bathing costumes.”

C. Therefore, wearing a bikini to the beach is not immoral

A + B = C

…there we go, better now? 😉

** NO ANSWER, EVASION**
I clearly specified that excess seeking of attention was sinful. The means matter little. For the umpteenth time, stop nitpicking my words.
“never suspected anything” ** NOT SINCERE / EVASION**
Right, because I’m not as shallow as you to allow physical appearances give cause to suspect means I’m insincere.

You are one of the most intellectually dishonest people I have ever met on CAF.
** NO ANSWER, EVASION** We should only mainly care about what God thinks.
You deliberately chopped my statement in half. By the way, for someone who insists on what God thinks, you certainly like to play deaf to 1 Samuel 16:7.

No no no, buddy, what’s funny is YOU can’t face the fact that the blessed pope condones bikinis.

I know google sorts by popularity. the 2 google sites i posted for you were the first 2 that came up on my search. just saying.

You missed it. Entering the terms with quotes around all of the words treats them as one entity, as one term, one keyword to search.

Doing so returned the pages full of 1920 style bathing costumes.

Doing otherwise returns stray matches…matches on bathing separate from costume and vice versa.

I did that --but guess what --the search also returned sites bikinis.

So go ahead --keep shooting your foot.

I love how you are doing everything possible to somehow prove that I was wrong about something. And it’s pretty hilarious how you’ve gone to such great lengths to deny the fact that JPII condones bikinis.

google search “bathing costume”

First 2 sites that come up:

thefreedictionary.com/bathing+costume

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimsuit

😃

Do you approve of my A + B = C now?

A + B = C

I have omitted the part about bikinis being the most popular so that you’d have nothing else to nit pick at while trying to find a way around this simple truth.

Well, with that being established, I will now go to bed.

It’s been fun.

Edward, you’re a trip.

Good night guys!

You know what, I think I’ll stop too for now. I’m writing a fantasy story that’s all about never judging by appearances anyways. I guess I owe the Party of Modesty thanks in that area I suppose. They gave me something to make fun of.

Edward, all I can say is that you get a gold star for enduring a debate like this. I am exhausted by just reading the thread! Thank you for enduring the arrows for the 98% of the forum who no doubt agree with you, but just don’t have time to iterate common sense Catholic teaching on modesty.

If for some reason, you were a part of a party that included the Pope, that went to the beach, would you pack a bathing suit or bikini?

Even if you were a mind-reader and that were true, it hardly counts as evidence for a viewpoint being the gospel truth. The only thing that can be said is the majority on this forum are from the West, specifically the States which has very specific and unique standards of modesty. Unless you’re saying us in the rest of the world lack common sense which I wouldnt put past anyone.

I’ll bite. It would depend on alot of factors and the circumstances (e.g. would I be going to do water sports?) but I would definitely not rule it out just like that.

I just realised I did not properly answer the question. I meant I would not rule out packing a bikini, if for whatever reason I would have worn one otherwise.

Do you think nudists should cover up if the Pope paid a visit to their colony? Should Indian women refrain from wearing sarees which show the midriff and women from certain tribes refrain from wearing their traditional dress which displays large parts of the torso if the Pope was visiting them?

I feel your question was outlandish, hence my crazy examples.

I am curious. How did you come up with that figure of 98% please?

Thank you for saying so.

After a short night’s rest (busy day today) I have concluded that I probably owe a few apologies. I really didn’t continue this debate meaning to hurt anyone, but I think I ended up doing so.

I apologize to any and all I offended. I will go to confession later today to confess these and other sins. After my prayer this morning, I concluded that this particular debate became an act which included pride on my part. It wasn’t an act of learning, or an act of coaching, or an act of charity, it became an act of trying to make or take ground, and oneupsmanship. That’s a sin. And I am truly sorry for it.

Others can say what they want about this debate, me or this posting. I’ve said my peace.

A bikini IS a bathing suit. And as there is nothing wrong with bikinis, of course I’d wear one. 🙂
