I agree with you in general terms.
What I am trying to say is that somebody doesn’t t need to publish volumes of theology,for other well known theologians,like Benedict,to grasp the " theological formation" from another person. Aside from reading a biography of course…
Basically,I am thinking of Benedict and his paragraphs.
But above all,that at his age,he deserves all the possible peace,protection and affection.
I am in with with what you are saying. Just that ,intentions,I really do not know, Imdaman.

I would think only an enemy of the Pope would deny it.
This comment sounds like something the Inquisition would say.
Yes how very facist sounding. Because only an enemy would deny being an enemy. I’m not sure why he thinks we should take is argumant seriously.

These writings might well be theologically sound and right on the mark. That is not the issue. T
Re- reading your post…this is what the most agressive comments do not seem to grasp.
Or say,I am trying to read Benedict in the best possible light.
It is not like he doesnt know what he is talking about.

It can be fascist sounding, except, in this case, it is a pretty clear effort to attract those who are nervous that the Pope does not seem to endorse their Republican politics as a natural extension of Church teachings. You get a few “catholic” propaganda sites to step in, begin feeding them what they want to hear (we’re the real Catholics, the Pope isn’t following Church teaching) and please, pretty please fill our coffers with your money. I’ve noticed LSN is trying to raise another few hundred thousand again. It helps if you tell people what they want to hear.
See this is maybe your problem you link Catholic thought to political thought. Catholic teaching is neither left not right. It is either Orthodox or heterodox.
Orthodox = abortion is evil
heterodox = abortion is acceptable.

Orthodox = help the poor
Heterodox = don’t help the poor.

Political thought on these issues goes something like this:

Abortion: Right = A right to life and liberty is in our constitution all lfe should be protected.
Left = I personally don’t like to kill anybody but I don’t think I can stand in anyone’s way
who believes they have a right to kill someone else.
Poverty:
Right= Lets help the poor to help them selves. Help them to pull themselves out of poverty so they feel good about themselves. This will boost our economy and societal morals creating a beter place to raise families the building blocks of society. In turn this will give us a stronger society to help the the elederly, mentally ill, etc and all those who cannot help themselves. because as a society everyone that can must pull their own weight so that the ones who no longer can will be looked after also.

Left: More taxes from everyone so that can control the money. impoverishing the middle class. This will in turn make more people dependent on the govt teat. creating a majority voting class that must vote for the strongest socialist govt to give these poor what they need.

Now as a Catholic man, I know that with regards to abortion I don’t get to choose about the good and the bad ways to make abortion work the best in our society. Abortion is always evil. I do get to make a choice on the best way to help the poor.

Orthodox - I am right.
Heterodox - You are wrong.
This is not what the Church teaches. Again you use emotion. I clearly did not say anything about me being right and you are wrong. Do you believe that the Church teaches that abortion isn’t always a grave evil? If you believe that then yes I suppose you are wrong but it is not because I’m right but the the Church is. OF course the church does teach that one can save the life of another with the end result being the termination oaf the fetus. Such as in a tubal-ligation case. But that is clearly not abortion as the church teaches.

That’s an interesting take on economic issues. My, did we come up with that ourselves or did we get it from right wing media? No, just a logical formation of tring to help the poor.

But all that aside, it really comes across as an excuse to ignore Catholic social issues to justify voting for the candidate I agree with on taxes.
I’ m sorry which Catholic social teaching have I ignored? Please explain, as it just seems to be more of your pre-teen emotional response rather than anything tangible about what I said. My response to Catholic Social issues speaks volumes and anyone that knows me will testify to the fact. I don’t sit and let govt do the work I and many of my fellow Christians work hard for the Lord. I pray that you do too. Because where govt inevitably disappoints we as the hands and feet of our Lord can only bring smiles to the faces of those we help.

No, I am explaining how it comes across when it gets thrown out there. It really is as simple as I stated.

No, it was clearly an emotional reponse. You using right and wrong verbage to dimiss what is orthodox vs. Heterodox is childish emotionalism nothing more.
Do you believe that the Church teaches that abortion isn’t always a grave evil? If you believe that then yes I suppose you are wrong but it is not because I’m right but the the Church is
Did I ever say that I don’t believe that the Church teaches that abortion isn’t always a grave evil? Did I ever say that I think abortion isn’t always a great evil? The trouble here is that you are imagining a conversation with me that isn’t occurring. **More emotionalism, I never accused you of anyting I asked you a question with a caveat that if you believe that the church is wrong than…! No accusations anywhere just a question! YOu are so emotional, see, now that is an accusation that is easily shown in your writiing. **
No, just a logical formation of tring to help the poor.
So, how do you help the poor then? If you expect them to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, how do you support it? see below the quotes. I will do a general outline.

Well, when you elect people like Trump, yes, it is inevitable that the government will disappoint as he has disappointed his three wives by his inability to stay faithful. So you have no examples of me ignoring Catholic social teaching. Only rude innuendo and hateful rhetoric towards Trump… more irrational emotive responses.
see next post for what I do for the poor!

Things I do with and for the poor:
Pray with the poor… not so much anymore because I have moved out of the city to a small town. But before we moved and espeacially when I was single and living downtown. When approached by a beggar I would talk with him to find out his story, much to their chagrin I would not give them money but I would feed them when I could. I would also sit with them listen and then we would pray together. I would try to get them to open their hearts to God. I find most homeless people are true believers in our loving God. Most have are easily able to open their hearts to him if only for a while.

Nowadays living further from the inner city with kids I don’t get to do this often anymore. BUt what I do and my family do.

Inn from the cold - once a month with the whole family.
Coldest night of the year - fundraiser me and my daughter.
Knight of Columbus, our lodge fundraisers around $30,000/ year. We sponsor many local charity organizations.
ON the board for St. Vincent Depaul
The magic of CHristmas
Once a year during Christmas break I take my family downtown and sell fresh roasted chestnuts. All the money we raise plus all the money we dedicate throughout the year for this purpose goes directly to the poor. We go to a Woman’s shelter and hand deliver money directly into the pockets Women and unwed mothers.

What do you do?
