What does it mean to be ‘saved’ You just say you believe…what else do you do…???

2109 is 100 years from this year. It is a thought provoking question that should cause one to reflect on one’s spiritual condition and the brevity of life and what our religion has done in terms of our eternal life.

Believing is exercising the faith which The Lord gives us. We have no faith of ourselves. This is what Jesus was telling Nicodemus in John Ch. 3–being born from above–born again.
The Holy Spirit through The Word shows us our hopeless sinful condition and points to the only remedy: the shed blood of Jesus. We let Jesus cleanse us and fill us with His Spirit. This is more than a warm and fuzzy feeling. Being born again is a profound experience of spirit, mind and emotion. It is real when Jesus comes into the heart–not an I think or maybe or any other uncertainty It has nothing to do with the rituals of man. We become new creatures in Christ, sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. We know whom we have believed and are persuaded that He is able to keep that which we have committed unto Him against That Day.

Jesus paid it all. He even gives the faith to believe. What else to do? Praise Him, Praise Him, Praise Him.

Peace,

James Least

Well, I didn’t see any mention of 2019, however…

What you describe is a conversion that is very intense, and deeply spiritual. But alot of people just don’t come to God like that, but gradual and one step at a time…They may have moments of experiencing God’s presence, but then they already are committed to him.

We all have our cleansing moments in the Lord…

But how does one know when one has been truly “Born Again”? There is no way to know, any more so than a Catholic would know their own assurance of being granted salvation.

I would know this, as I grew up in a church with very similar teachings to your own. I made the altar call myself several times, as did most everyone else I knew there. So which of those times was I truly saved? It never made sense to me that pure emotionalism would carry someone’s salvation. God is more concerned with what we do for others rather than for ourselves. I don’t think a crisis of faith is more important to Him than us sheltering the homeless and feeding those who are starving. This, by the way, is something that always seems to be severely lacking in any Baptist (or other Evangelical) church. I have never truly seen or felt the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) outside of the Catholic church. Why don’t Baptist churches exhibit them? Hmm…

James, what is the name of your Christian community…we need to know its roots…do you have a history of your leadership?

Study: I John 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that you have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God”. Now study the entire chapter. This helps to establish the fact that we can know if we are born again or not. John’s writings are filled with assurances of salvation: see the Gospel of John: study Ch. 3,8,10, 14. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him–another shepherd they will not follow. There are many false shepherds out there. See Mt. 7.

I know a little about “repeat after me salvation” and some of the pitfalls of “child evangelism”, having made several trips to the altar myself. To be sure God calls children–of such are the kingdom of God. The key is who is doing the calling. “No one cometh to the Father unless The Spirit draw him”. Anything else is a short-lived warm and fuzzy emotional experience–not from God. Only God saves to the uttermost.

Being born again is not about what church one has joined. One could join every church on this globe and still miss heaven. It is all about Jesus and Him crucified. He that has the Son has life. There is no mention of church affiliation in any salvation scriptures. There are born again Christians in various churches. I have difficulty making generalities regarding any one group. God knows them that are His; and they hear His voice and follow. If that is not the case, then we need to go through the paradigm again: God knows them, calls them; they hear Him and follow. A child can understand–children do not have all the religious clutter yet. I got this from the Holy Spirit leading me through the Scripture, not the commandments and traditions of men.

James, what is the name of your Christian community…we need to know its roots…do you have a history of your leadership?
he is not going to answer any question. he just want to teach us what Scriptures really mean. something he is fighting against.

Name: Christians–i.e. followers of Christ–in the original sense–to the death. aka: That Way, The Way; usually called heretics by the religious powers that be. Not all heretics are “That Way”, no pun intended.

Roots: Shores of Galilee–circa: 30 A.D.

History: Gospels, Book of Acts, Revelation.

Leader: Jesus, The Christ, The Son of the Living God, Mt. 16,The Rock, and That Rock of offense that the builders rejected. Others have followed and led-- the trail is written in martyrs blood–just as Jesus willlingly gave His life for the ungodly. The real followers of Jesus have always been hated by the world including the religious world. They cannot deal with the The Way, The Truth and The Life.

Even so, come Lord Jesus,

James Least

I have answered all questions within my ability. I am still studying the oral tradition scripture. I hasten to add that the oral must agree with the written: “The saints at Berea were more noble than those at Thessolonica, they searched the Scripture daily to see if these things were so”. What things? The preachings(oral communication) of the Apostle Paul. The Written Word is the only rule of faith and practice–God wrote it–He is not the author of confusion.

What part of: " He that hath the Son, hath life," do we not understand. How would you share it?

James Least

And, chronologically speaking, that would have been the Old Testament.

Thus, taking your position to its logical conclusion: “The Written Word [that] is the only rule of faith and practice…” is the Old Testament.

Wait – I see it – Sola Old Testament.👍

than answer this: was you christian community responsible in gathering the Scriptures and put it all together? were they entrusted with all the letters written by the Apostles?

Hi, thanks you all for your participation on this thread. I didn’t follow up recently on account of being dizzy/nauseous on the computer.

Thank you James Least for patiently making the other side’s point of view known, I appreciate that. Thank you all to answer in charity.

Growing up in Europe, I’m not familiar with American Christian history and I can see that I’m missing clues to the puzzle because of my ignorance in that area. I have read something once in a book about Fundamentalism (sorry I don’t remember which book).

I read that until a certain point, all of the US non Catholic non Orthodox Christian communities called themselves Protestant. Then, at some point, some of them started to rethink the way they believe and worship to distance themselves from liturgical practices (or maybe for other reasons?) and to grow closer to a literal interpretation of the Bible. They defined some fundamentals Christian beliefs, and this is called Fundamentalism. I think that this happened in the 1800s? if anybody has more details about that, please share. God Bless you all.

Sounds like a trick question. The Lord has provided His Word and His Holy Spirit to lead in all Truth. The Apostle Paul wrote or dictated a large portion of the NT. He was not of the original 12 apostles. God is faithful even when we are not. He has taken care of His children since before day one.

That’s the way I read it as well. Except that most SS do not include Maccabees in OT.

not trick at all. very simple question, only require simple answer. like we Catholics, we can prove to you through writings from the old that the CC assembled the Bible. if your community was the one that did this, you must have some documents to prove it. that is all you gotta do…

how did our Lord provided His Word? how did He do it? who had those letters? your community? your community assembled the Bible together?
who were the Saints of your community that assembled the Bible? common now, i am sure that people, living people humans, were the ones assembling it. Who?

there was Jesus and the Twelve Apostles. than there were 12 Apostles and St Peter.

Thanks James for identifying yourself…I wont’ bite.

Tomorrow is another day for me…

Blessings.

Some pertinent facts:
  1. No original manuscripts have been discovered, perhaps survived to date, Dec. 2, 2009 A.D.
  2. The originals were probably written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek.
  3. There are dozens of copies, and hundreds of copies of copies.
  4. Some copies have been translated into Latin some into English(curiously many of those who translated into English were excommunicated, hanged and burned.) See: “How We Got The English Bible”, see also: “Two Streams of Scripture”. There are dozens of modern translations into many languages and dialects around the globe.
How did He do it? See Acts. Ch. 2. The Holy Spirit, The Paraclete, came to indwell the Assembly(Ecclesiology 101), to lead in all Truth. The Word is Truth. He still indwells the Assembly, still leading in all Truth, in spite of man and his religious antics and gyrations.

Who had the letters? They were carried to the churches to whom they were addressed. They were also circulated to other churches. God is able to preserve His people in this wicked and perverse generation–and He has.

What do you want: monks and monasteries? Is it not possible others were doing the same thing? It is a serious error to suppose the laity illiterate. Curiously, the Catholic Reformation is noted for the clergy getting some academic training to back up their titles. They also studied scripture.

There are two streams of scripture–one is more accurate than the other.

Point of order: there were originally 12 apostles, one of them, Judas, was a devil who hanged himself after betraying Jesus. That made 11, including Peter. Matthias was elected/appointed by the Holy Spirit to replace Judas. Then there were 12, including Peter. Thirty+ years later, Saul of Tarsus is made an apostle, making 13. The Lord used him to produce more than half of the NT. What is the point? Was Peter pope from 33 to the time he was rebuked by Paul, The Apostle? Whence the primacy of Peter?

James Least

why do you keep talking without answering the questions? i say stick with the questions only.

very vaque answers. you keep going around and around but no concrete answers. you sound more like a salesman. no offense.

What about the Dead Sea Scrolls? This are as original to the time of Jesus as possible

Could you provide links?
There are dozens of modern translations into many languages and dialects around the globe.
Nothing curious about it. They were burned because they were not authorized by the Church and contained errors. (see ref. “Wicked Bible,” “Murderer’s Bible,” etc.)
Many modern translations were revered (Douay Rheims). The first Bible printed on the Gutenberg press was a Catholic version in German.
What do you want: monks and monasteries? Is it not possible others were doing the same thing?
Yes it is possible. Show me proof.
It is a serious error to suppose the laity illiterate. Curiously, the Catholic Reformation is noted for the clergy getting some academic training to back up their titles. They also studied scripture.
Not true in many cases. That’s why they needed to be corrected.
There are two streams of scripture–one is more accurate than the other.
Could you elaborate?

He hasn’t been here that long. He’ll catch up and realize this is a well monitored discussion board, where the rules of straying off topic are strictly enforced. He’ll find out we Catholics are a knowledgeable bunch. 👍
