Trayvon Martin: 'Shoot first' law under scrutiny

I’m sure there are some posters here, myself included, who’ve suffered an injury that took a few moments to bleed, including one injury that not only required stiches on the outside but also had to stitch a tendon as well.

And, no, the sidewalk doesn’t have to have had blood on it, though this is a moot point because, as you seem to have forgotten, the authorities have viewed and documented Zimmerman’s injuries, as well as his head injury being visible in the arrest tape. It doesn’t matter what some people in the viewing public claim they can’t see.
I seem to be losing lines of reasoning with multiple posters, sorry. What do stitches and tendons have to do with bleeding onto a surface that your head was being bashed into, to the point where you feared for your life?

Edit: Actually it will matter what isn’t seen in the video…if this case ever gets before a fully conscious jury.

If your head is bashed onto a pavement to the point that it splits open and bleeds, the pavement will not necessarily be at least spotted with blood?! I guess, maybe not…if the gravitational field reversed at that instant and sucked every trace of the assault into outer space…
it was raining was it not?

Ha, ha. That is true.I suppose the police couldn’t test bloody water (they got there in within a minute of the fight,no?). Hey, maybe the rain washed the blood off Zimmerman. Which might explain why his head looks so clean. 😉

Why do you assume that Zimmerman bled “onto a surfce that his head was being bashed into”? From what I’ve heard so far, it’s unclear how many times his head hit the pavement. For all we know, it could’ve been only once or twice. Secondly, he claims he was struggling against TM and had scooted on his back, onto the grass. The altercation was allegedly brief, again, according to what the public has heard so far. There’s no reason to assume that he had to have bled onto the pavement. Add rain and, well, I have to wonder why you’d insist blood would be visible? Better yet, why deny the cut/scrape/injury that is later shown on the arrest tape? Is a theory now taking root that the police somehow doctored GZ’s head to give an appearance of an injury on tape, all in an effort to cover up a racist hate crime?

This is a case of " I’m a wanna-be cop" gone bad! Only GOD and Zimmerman know what really happened here. Laws such as “shoot first” obviously create controversy and have a high probability of supporting unjustifiable killings.

You would call about a white person doing something suspicious. Trayvon was described as being suspicious without any indication he was* doing *anything suspicious. That, my friend, is the key difference. You don’t even know that he was walking on the lawns. Besides, I have lived in such neighborhoods with lawns that are practically common areas that children gather to play in.

I can’t count the number of responses tonight that have perfectly proved my point: if he had not been black (or whatever the ‘suspect’ ethnicity happened to be in that area), he would not have been followed for DOING NOTHING WRONG.
one more time. if in my neighborhood there had been a string of burglaries and eyewitnesses had said they were white, i would most definitely call the cops if i saw a white person, at night, in the rain trespassing and checking out houses. plural houses is simply unacceptable, but even in the same scenario with one house although if i knew the owner i’d call them first and tell them what was going on and let them call the cops. why would parents go let their children play on somebody else’s yard at night in the rain? 🤷

now as to what trayvon was doing, obviously i don’t know. neither do you. we weren’t there. you and the countless others that are assuming this is all about race are not helping matters. i still don’t think he’s a racist because there is no evidence showing he is, yet we have evidence that he is not given that he has black friends and has mentored a black family. you put in bold, DOING NOTHING WRONG, yet you don’t know that for sure do you? maybe he was. maybe he wasn’t.

i shouldn’t have to state the obvious, but here goes:

if trayvon was just walking down the street minding his own business, then george was in the wrong.

if trayvon was casing out houses in the rain and note george said houses (plural) and given that there had been a string of burglaries, then i think george was just trying to be of help to his community which was mixed btw.

it is not lost on me that his life being lost is tragic. i feel very bad for his family. all i’m saying is that people need to stop jumping to conclusions. and the town homes in the gated community all looked the same, so i doubt he was checking out the architecture (if he was checking out the homes at all).

can you send a link of the map/route you had mentioned earlier. thanks.

meteorologist and witnesses will let us know how hard it was raining. yes, a good rain can wash away blood in under 30 seconds. florida weather is capable of drizzles to a torrential downpour. besides i had read george said he tried to move onto the grass to protect his head.

maybe his head looked clean because the paramedics treated him.

do you think george wasn’t injured at all?

there is no “shoot first” law.

if someone starts attacking you on the street, you have a right to defend yourself. if they come up and slap you with a wet noodle, you can verbally let them have it, but you could not pick up a rock and start hitting them in the face. the only time you can use deadly force is if you feel your life or the life of others are in imminent danger and you or (the others) are not able to retreat. sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

there are people all over tv calling for this law to be changed that don’t even live in florida. if they don’t like florida’s laws then they don’t have to live in or visit the state.
