Clear admission of the direction this administration is taking immigration. The downtrodden will be denied and the affluent catered to. Truly a shameful time… I pray the Catholic vote will rise up and end this awful presidency next election
Awful presidency? I pray the Catholic vote will reward him for helping save Catholics in the Middle East who were being decimated by ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Did you ever think about those people? Some call it genocide and a mess left from the 2 previous presidents, research it for oneself.

By the way, the Trump admin has worked with the Knights of Columbus to restore Chaldean/Assyrian Churches over there, that articles was posted in the forum.

I will thank President Trump, the military and the great sacrifices of Christians, Kurds and other members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who we gave air support to to defeat an ideology as evil as Nazism. They made, great, great sacrifices against tyranny.

Not sure what you are talking about. If we are really interested in helping the downtrodden, send jets to the poorest areas on the planet and bring them in; not those who cross the border and the big racket that organized crime benefits from along with smuggling and trafficking sex slaves and opioids that killed hundreds if not thousands of Americans.

Every country has border rules, Canada, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, Italy. Why jump on someone who believes we should have some law and order on the border?

No one is objecting to law and order at the border. People with a Catholic conscience should object to the proposals that give preferential treatment to the most well off to the detriment of the weak. This is a clearl abondoning of American principles

Catholics know that the Church teaches a preferential option for the poor in her doctrine… Catholic conscience’s need to rise up

Unfortunately, I believe this may have some truth to it. Trumps pseudo-fascism should be extremely troubling to all American citizens and global citizens

So, if one said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven, that is also, eugenics?

I’m afraid I don’t follow

At first glance, it seems you are reinforcing my point

Hardly.
So, if one said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven, that is also, eugenics?
The point is, heaven doesn’t accept everyone either.

I will ask the same question I asked another OP.

Why did you change the title of the article for the title of the thread?

Neither does heaven have a preference for those who have offers for high paying jobs… did you read the article?

The Church teaches a preferential option for the poor… do you assent to that teaching?

If one is against a merit-based system, what does this mean?

If you murdered someone, we won’t count it againsr you?

Canada can be real hard to immigrate to over drunk driving records.

They must be eugeniscists. Check Canadian law.

I didn’t really think of it… when I read the article, it is clear to me that this is a form of eugenics… so I named that thread the way I did. The title of the article is clear on the post though.

That is not the issue here, we were defining what eugenics are I guess.

What’s the opposite view? Allow mass murderers in?

Just seems rather inflammatory.

I don’t have a subscription to WSJ, so I can’t tell if they also used that language.

Don’t be silly… the point is that if two people with a clean criminal record are attempting entrance, the more well to do individual will get preferential treatment under the Trump policy.

I’ll ask again… do you assent to the Church’s teaching on the preferential option for the poor?

Sorry you see it that way. That was not my intention. I simply find it appalling as a Catholic that the wealthiest country in the world would give preferential option to the well to do in favor of those in need

What about the church teaching on abortion? Do you want to give illegals crossing the borders preferential treatment over unborn children that can’t defend themselves?

So, you are affirming, you have been faithful in voting for pro-life candidates. That’s good.
I’ll ask again… do you assent to the Church’s teaching on the preferential option for the poor?
You are asserting this, I read the USCBB state immigrants must not violate the national character, not take advantage of our social services. It’s a whole lot more than your “for the poor” statement that was used to say something rather horrible about another human being… let alone “eurgenics”, your article is behind a paywall.
eu·gen·ics

[yo͞oˈjeniks]

NOUN
  1. the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis.
So, this is a pretty absurd thing to say, and yes, that about it being harder for a rich man to get to heaven is on the mark. I’m sorry, none of us get to define everything in an argument.

I believe the term eugenics is perfectly apropos for a policy that discriminates against those who are less well off. One of the Trump policy suggestions is that those with offers for high paying jobs would be given preference over those who are unskilled. Those who are more well off will be preferred… a gross perversion of American principles

I’ll take your feedback though and use the term pseudo-eugenics in the future.

I must say that I find it a bit troubling that you won’t answer the question about assenting or not to the Church’s teaching on the preferential option. It is a very simple question.

The whole argument is incoherent, we are talking about the poor? Would those not be economic migrants?

Vatican Cardinal Sarah: Nations Have ‘the Right to Distinguish Refugees from Economic Migrants’

Vatican Cardinal Robert Sarah has praised Poland for standing up to the European Union’s “immigration logic” and fighting to preserve its own cultural identity but not allowing the nation to be overrun with migrants.

So, with all due respect to all, there goes one’s whole argument. Oh, dear.

You’re going to need an little more ammo… the US isn’t even close to overrrun by immigrants. Even if it was, how does it make sense to you to invert the Church’s teaching on the preferential option?

The article you posted from Breitbart ‘news’, unfortunately tries to advance the fake idea that people are advocating for open boarder in the US which, of course, no one is advocating for.

The point I’m making is that the USA should not advance an immigration policy that discriminates based on social status. I can’t tell if you think that more wealthy folks should be allowed to immigrate to the US over poorer folks. It would be helpful for me to continue this discussion if you would clarify that question.
