I agree that he was the candidate who at least said he would appoint Supreme Court judges in the hope that Roe v Wade might be overturned…he wasn’t my choice for President but was better than the alternative…that was my main reason voting for him…and while he may have put forth initiatives that supported conservative views I think you’re drawing a long bow to suggest his policies align with the Catholic Church…two of his major policies… Immigration and Healthcare are at odds with his Holiness Pope Francis…and the United States Council of Catholic Bishops…and while Catholics don’t have to agree with either…it does show that there are Catholics whose conservative views “trump” the views of the Catholic Church…and that applies also to liberal Catholic who support views that are opposite to the Catholic Church…and yes for those reasons I do believe that politics has become a form of religion for some here in the US because they only agree with the church if it fits into their political beliefs…maybe that’s why we’re in the mess we are.I think you are overstating the emotions of those ,myself included, who support President Trump. As has been stated numerous times on this Forum by others’ and myself,he was the lesser of two deeply flawed candidates. The only option was to vote for him because he at least offered the hope and promise of putting forth initiaves that align with Conervatives and Catholic/ Christians alike.
It is a sad commentary on the nature of politics in our country that the best that was offered were HC andcDTDT was a reaction to the status quo.The Republicans for the most part brought this on themselves. They love to eat their own.
