Trump calls out Biden on religion

Biden claims his faith is the bedrock of who he is yet supports abortion. That is incongruent.
Though stances do not fit together easily, but they are not incongruent. If you want to understand Catholic politicians in this country, you have to learn something about Al Smith and the anti-Catholic sentiment that let Herbert Hoover usher in the Great Depression. And you have to read JFK’s speech about religion during the 1960 campaign. Then you might have some sense of what the faith is and what it is not.

And Biden does not support abortion. Neither does he support forcing a woman to bring any pregnancy to term. You might ask Trump about that, why he supports intervening in women’s lives to save children, but does not support intervening in gun owners lives to save children.

“Biden does not support abortion.”

–Are you aware NARAL endorsed him for president last week?

Tommy999:
Although Pres Trump favors legislation more favorable to people of faith than Biden in my opinion (abortion, etc), I think his motives are more politically motivated to “shore up the base” than sincerely held beliefs, if you take into consideration how he deals with people as a whole.

For example, he routinely insults people personally and distastefully who disagree with him or who dare to see things differently. He fires staffers left and right like he’s still on ‘The Apprentice’, etc.

Just my personal observation. I still prefer him to Biden, though.
Oh, I’m well aware of all that. I don’t particularly like Trump and I never have. The street language I would use to describe him, would definitely run afoul of CAF guidelines. But he is willing to go to bat for the unborn. I’m really not concerned with his reasons. It’s just too important. I know I am sounding like a broken record, but one, two, or even three Supreme Court justices could have influence decades into the future, possibly another generation. So it matters who picks them.

If there is a boat full of people on fire at sea, and it is about to go down and drown everyone, I’m not terribly concerned with whether the owner of the rescue ship that’s on its way to save them is a nice guy, whether he treats his crew well, nor whether he acquired the ship honestly, or stole it. That’s the analogy here.
Except the ship isn’t sinking quickly, rather leaking slowly and has been for 50 years.

And the owner is actually a renter, who a short time ago was hand in glove with the folks who sabotaged your boat, and is well known for only rescuing when it is to his own advantage, which in a short time it won’t be any more.

Is such a one gonna actually go to the effort of rescuing you, or is he more likely to make the right noises and make small or symbolic gestures while you continue to slowly sink?

Like a bad penny I keep turning up!

So if the media doesn’t talk about something, it “doesn’t stick” and thus never happened?

If you want to waive a magic wand and say “it never stuck so it never happened,” at least be consistent and acknowledge that no such allegations of “sexual sins” “stuck” against Trump either.

I would also point out that Trump wasn’t accused of actually forcibly assaulting anyone like Biden was.

That’s supporting abortion. If someone is pregnant the only moral option is carrying it to term.

Because gun ownership is a constitutionally protected right of American citizens, if people want that changed they need to pass an amendment repealing the second.

Memo to Biden: Faith first, then politics, not the other way around.

Whilst it is my opinion that Biden is the better presidential candidate
one would have to overlook his anti-catholic positions which are many.
He doesn’t represent you. At least, he doesn’t represent the country we discovered.
one needs to look at what he does and not what he says.
Then by the same token, Mr Trump’s opponents ought make hay of his public sins, flaws and disconnects.
are they flaws, disconnect, etc to the non-believing? would Biden be condemning his own constituents?
Yeah, that really didn’t stick, did it?
does that mean it isn’t true? the evidence seems to indicate something happened(topic for another thread)
I said Christian, not Catholic.
so a catholic isn’t Christian?
Biden does not support abortion.
yet he wants to codify it into the law of the land
In an Oct. 5 tweet, he wrote: “Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, and we must fight any and all attempts to overturn it. As president, I will codify Roe into law and ensure this choice remains between a woman and her doctor.”

You are kidding, right?

Having a body is a constitutionally protected right of American citizens. If you want that changed, you need to pass amendments repealing the fourth, fifth, fourteenth…

What does that statement have to do with supporting abortion? He says women have a right to abort, not that any woman ever should.

Are you implying giving birth is somehow a violation of bodily autonomy?

He says women have a right to abort, not that any woman ever should.
Those are one and the same. If you say, women should have the right to vote, would any reasonable person say you’re not saying women should vote?

An abortion is a much more grievous violation of the bodily autonomy of the fetus.

No. They have a right to own a gun. So they have a right to go buy one.

The right isn’t to shooting people, the right is to ownership and the law allows for self defense shootings.

If you want to say you’re pro choice and that’s why you support Biden just say so. You don’t need to do the mental gymnastics.

Trump does not claim to accept any one denomination’s teachings, nor to have a terribly profound understanding of Christian doctrine or Scripture.
If this is the case, then he shouldn’t be qualified to comment on who is or isn’t “against God.”

Ignoring the option to take the rest of the day listing everything that he has done that has had a negative impact (plus everything he hasn’t done) then are we to ignore his despicable comments about women? His denigration of war heroes? His summary dismissal of civil rights campaigners? His fantasy land comments about covid19? His litany of lies? His racist comments? His support of far right white nationalists?

I guess to vote for the guy you’d need to ignore all that and more.

why would he codify abortion if he didn’t support it? he would ignore it if he didn’t support it
I don’t think there is any evidence that anything happened. The accusations seem to have issues and that is why I think the story didn’t have legs.
the media didn’t push it. Nick Sandmann wasn’t a story but the media pushed their narrative and it became a story. this would have had legs if the media did their job.

she had told people and there is evidence she did.
If this is the case, then he shouldn’t be qualified to comment on who is or isn’t “against God.”
unfortunately, those who should, haven’t
religious leaders.
