Trump family’s elaborate lifestyle is a ‘logistical nightmare’ — at taxpayer expense

The solution is very simple. Set a fixed budget for security and let the President decide best how to allocate it. If there is only a finite budget, the president takes a finite number of trips or pays for his or her own security.

That’s not a bad idea as long as there is a mechanism to deal with increased threat levels.

A good example is what is happening now with Secretary DeVos. Her department has a small security detail and that’s it. But when she was physically assaulted when trying to visit a school, the decision was made to add US Marshalls as, hopefully, a temporary augment to her security detail. This doesn’t increase the budget for the department but it addresses the need for additional security.

Of course, the budgeted amount has to be enough to actually provide sufficient protection in most cases. Otherwise it just feeds the already existing problem of only the rich being able to run for office.

Purple anyone.

All of them.

IMO it might have been worth it if it kept him from pulling the levers of power. Each time he did there was exponentially greater world and national problems.

Per Trump:

His “elaborate vacations” are pretty much the same lifestyle he always lived on his own dime.

And are they really vacations when he never stops working … and making news by reporting to all and sundry each day about what his administration is doing?

He’d probably be happier traveling on his own, superior, private plane.

His family is bigger than Obama’s (or Bush’s or Clinton’s) … but some of the extra secret service stuff mentioned for his family is probably more prevalent now … since Ivanka and her family flew coach on JetBlue at their own expense – and were accosted by some entitled little snowflake that couldn’t handle THAT! :hmmm:

Ivanka was on a JetBlue flight leaving JFK Thursday morning with her family when a passenger started screaming, “Your father is ruining the country.” The guy went on, “Why is she on our flight? She should be flying private.” The guy had his kid in his arms as he went on the tirade.

As a general rule, a mild winter is off-set by a mild summer (wouldn’t that be nice :D) so the average annual temp doesn’t change by much.

Just a word of advice: Brow-beating people into answering your question is not nearly as effective as first making the case for why your question is relevant to the discussion at hand.
 
Vanny, bless you. I believe in five pages of comments, you are the only one to get it. Unfortunately, I fear my words may be prophetic – rather than simply making a point.

So if the adult kids of President Trump fly coach (Jet Blue), then they are harassed and accosted by a stranger who not only hates President Trump, but also hates his family too. What type of “man” treats a woman and small child the way she was treated? If the adult kids of the President fly privately with the protection of the Secret Service, then they are living an elaborate lifestyle on the taxpayer’s dime.

President Trump and his family can’t win, can they, no matter what they do it is wrong!

So are the adult kids of Trump supposed to give up their work, businesses, livelihoods? Is that what you all want? Are they supposed to try and be like everyone else? Does their safety and well-being matter? Are they supposed to pay for this out of their own pockets? No one could afford that – wealthy or not. Should they just let themselves be targets for kidnapping and murder (because you get to the President through his kids)?

So we have a double standard here. Obama and Biden spent millions upon millions of dollars on travel and on vacations and on all sorts of things. And no one complains. But if Trump does the same thing, then he is extravagant, creating logistical nightmares, and God only know what else. I love the smell of hypocrisy.

Isn’t that the truth. The opener in Cleveland last yr was cancelled due to flurries and a wind chill of 18 degrees. But they were playing in warm weather in Nov! Who was that vs again? 😛 Anyway the previous time their opener was postponed they also went to the postseason. Maybe we should pray for an April blizzard spreading from Lakes Michigan to Erie. 😃

👍 Exactly the point I have made in other threads.

The Trump family’s “elaborate lifestyle” isn’t causing the logistical “nightmare”. it’s the fact that this is a family of working people, with obligations to their companies and their employees, not professional politicians. It’s not the usual cast of characters and bureaucracy hates change. They can’t just all give up their jobs and hide for the next 8 years.
