It wouldn’t work. An impeachment would be for a single person. There is no mechanism to impeach multiple individuals together. They would have to do them one at a time.

So, if they impeach President Trump, Mike Pence becomes President and he appoints his choice of VP. Then they could try to impeach Mike Pence and the new VP would become President. Same issue if they go after Mike Pense first. The only way Paul Ryan gets into the office of the President is if he is the one selected to replace Mike Pence as VP.

So far anyway, VP Pence has not done anything to even cast shadows on his ability to serve, let alone something that could be categorized as high crimes or misdemeanors. I just don’t see why the Republicans would want to impeach him.

Let me start by saying that I voted for the guy (Trump)…

However, each day that passes only builds more uncertainty within me if I did the right thing? I follow him on Twitter; I see the comments he post. All I can think of is if it really is him making such pasquinade remarks?

The reality is that conservative are not any smarter than their counterparts. There have been many issues that have gone through will little to no attention while those that blindly support their leaders are oblivious to the ramifications within their own lives; the banking crises is one example that I always bring up.

In Trumps case, he has little regard for those he offense. It is too early to declare if his tactics are successful? But the current indicators are showing that his efforts are doing nothing to bring unity. I have to admit that it is impressive that he won the election? He didn’t have the support of his own party. Many Republicans like Paul Ryan considered a nomination in an effort to obstruct Trump’s path to victory - like we would all just blindly follow Ryan as the next Pied Piper…maybe we would?

Unfortunately, Trump lies and blames everyone else for our problems. He has not demonstrated his ability to work well with others. Conservatives have just refused to acknowledge his foibles in the hopes that they are just going to disappear? I am aware that Trump did not campaign on the platform of Unity. But, we truly need a leader capable of bringing everyone together…

🤷 I said I was just passing along what I’ve heard and that it didn’t sound very believable. Not sure how that’s considered news at all, let alone fake news.

Okay, thank you for explaining that. I’d much rather have Pence as president, to be honest. I disagree with him on several issues, but he seems like a good guy.

Edit: I did see some explanations of how they could possibly be impeached at the same time, but I honestly don’t see Pence being impeached, either way.

I’d have to see a source on that. The process to hold impeachment hearings for the President is different than it is for other office holders, including the VP. I don’t see any way they could be combined even if they were being impeached for the same cause. The process could begin simultaneously, I suppose but even a short space of time between the two convictions would just create the scenario I outlined above.

Even if the President or Vice President was impeached, it would have to be something catastrophic to get the 2/3 vote for a conviction. Impeachment is one thing, a conviction quite another.

Asking for unity in the current political environment is like asking to unify oil and water. It’s not going to happen, period.

But when it comes to the Repubs in congress, the question is whether they can negotiate meaningful legislation and budgets with Trump and each other, not whether they like each other. The Dems, I believe, will be totally in opposition to the policies of any Repubs, whether they’re those of Ryan, Trump or whomever.

That’s just the way it is.

Try not to be lost. It’s still only 4 wks into the Trump Admin. Give him time and the various committees their time to investigate his ties to his bbf, Russian President Vlad Putin and any ethics investigations that may yet come. Bill Clinton wasn’t impeached 4 wks into his first term and neither were articles of impeachment recommended by the judiciary committee for Dick Nixon, otherwise known as Tricky Dicky at the time, within this time frame.

No, he could sell his businesses instead of arranging a blind trust. The chief ethics counsels for GWB and Obama were both very clear that a blind trust or sale were the only possible ways to ensure Trump wasn’t using the office to enrich himself. I’m sure ethics counsels for other presidents would agree if asked.
It is the option that is least desirable and most cumbersome.

Paul Ryan wouldn’t have to be VP. Agnew resigned without replacement, then Nixon resigned, making Ford the President.

It seems to me that when Obama was Presdident, he was criticized for governing by executive order rather than through legislation. But I guess Trump can do no wrong, so it must be good when he does it.
