When Agnew resigned, Ford was appointed as his replacement at VP. Ford wasn’t the Speaker of the House, he was the minority leader. Nixon could have appointed someone else (as Ford did when appointing Rockefeller). Ford became president because he was the sitting VP at the time of Nixon’s resignation. If the VP position had still been vacant at the time of Nixon’s resignation, the speaker of the House (Carl Albert) would have become President.

Of course common sense would tell you that with his predecessor using the EO as often as he did, the next President who opposed those EOs would have to write at least as many to not only undo the previous EOs, but to fix the problems left over.

How many of Trump’s EO’s are simply undoing EO’s of Obama? I’m not aware of any. Obama’s EO’s were criticized, not just because some did not approve of their content, but because of the very principle of governing by EO instead of by working with the congress. And now we have a President who nominally has a majority in both houses of congress in his party, and still he chooses to govern by EO. I begin to wonder if Trump paid attention in civics class when the roles of the three branches of government were explained.

You hit at a point. Opponents of BHO criticized him for signing EOs whining he was governing by fiat. But when their guy now does it, it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. It’s fine if people believe and have faith in DJT saving a nation and even the world. That’s their right. But the Trump faithful should just fess up already. When BHO did it, they cried foul. When DJT does it, they cheer grand slam. It’s because they opposed BHO but agree with DJT.
