NOW - Personally, I do think that the President of the United States should be using the White House or Camp David for all weekend events.

But Trump is hardly the first US President to make use of his own vacation home for Presidential events. Obama & Clinton didn’t because they sold their homes when they moved into the White House. But George W. Bush kept his home in Crawford, Texas.

According to the Washington Post “In New York, the city is paying $500,000 a day to guard Trump Tower, according to police officials’ estimates, an amount that could reach $183 million a year.”

The only way these numbers work is if there are 400 cops working Trump Tower for security. I haven’t seen that on CBS or the NYT. I’m sure if it were true it would be shown every day. I don’t think it’s a problem for them.

Reason: When country clubs host major events, like the US Open, they often lose the ability to play the course, not just when the Open is in town, but could lose the ability to play for upwards of a year before hand so changes can be made to the course. Then, if they are not going to keep the changes, then it could be closed for another extended amount of time to restore the course to it’s former design.

Merion Country Club outside Philly, host of the 2013 US Open was a good example. They close a good part of the course for a long time to prep it for the Open and then to restore it.

Point is: a lot of Country Clubs see this kind of thing as a “status builder.” So they will not complain if it makes their membership more exclusive and valuable.

On the flip side, you have Pine Valley Country Club (outside Philly, in New Jersey) which is considered the best course in America (if not the world) that never hosts events because their way of creating exclusiveness and value is by having their country club be incorporated as a town (with a mayor and police department) and to never let people place the course except for very famous and powerful guests… who even then it takes a while before they can play.

Point is… I doubt the Country Club members will complain.

This argument is getting old. I don’t know any Republicans who are actually anti-immigration, anti-healthcare, anti-reforms for the marginalized. The difference is HOW to conduct those policies.

1. Republicans want to see LEGAL immigration. I know many Republicans who want to make the immigration system faster and more fair for legal immigrants. I for one am one of them. I think anyone who wants to come to country to work and making a living for their family should be welcome with open arms. But people who want to come here to cause violence or milk the welfare system should not be welcome with open arms.
2. anti-healthcare is the biggest misconception of them all. We are not anti-universal healthcare… But we are anti-Federal government health care. You see, Republicans believe in subsidiarity. We do not believe the Federal Government is the correct place for this kind of public policy. We believe that each State is different and that the will & needs of the people are best carried out by each state. If the people in CA for example want a single-payer system, then they can have have an election and create it for themselves. And if West Virginia wants the state government completely out of healthcare, then they can vote against universal health care in their state. Each state should be able to do what their people want. It’s not that we don’t want universal health care, it’s that we don’t believe the Federal Government can do a good job.
3. and anti-reforms for the marginalized… This one is ridiculous. We are against SOCIALISM. Look at Hong Kong and Singapore. They both used to have very, very poor societies. But they removed all the unnecessary regulations and now they both have a booming economy and people are doing well there. Allowing free markets to flourish, with limited regulation (I’m not talking about criminal laws) gives people incentive to work hard and to take ownership in society. We believe in giving the poor the tools to fish, not continually fishing for them. The goal of Welfare should be to help people when they are down on their luck, not a place where they remain for their whole life. We need to help them get out of welfare. To do this, Republicans believe that religious organization, non-profits, cities, counties and states can all do this MUCH better than the Federal Government. What the federal government can do, is reduce religation so local organizations can do their jobs easier and get the “marginalized” on their feet and help them to contribute to society.
4. In regards to climate change… yes, some people don’t believe it’s man made. Others, simply want to see the proof, and finally, there are others like me who believe that climate change is a COMBINATION of BOTH natural factors and man made factors. But science has NOT determined what % is man made vs natural. Right now, this issue is polarized, when it shouldn’t be. I’m willing to bet my salary that climate change is NOT 100% man made, and is NOT 100% natural. But due to the politicalization of this topic, many scientists are afraid to do the research or publish findings. Furthermore, the “radical environmentalists” and population control who all believe that we should be limiting the number of children born and who encourage & support abortion and euthanasia push conservatives away. The environment is very important, but we must not be supporting population control policies in the name of the environment. Finally, many conservatives want proof of man made impacts before initiating regulations & laws that hurt working families and make it hard for them to feed, clothe & house their families.

All of this comes down the point that Republicans are typically in favor of Federal Government focusing on what the Constitution directly says the Federal government’s responsibilities are, and leaving social policy to the states. We believe in subsidiarity, and the Catholic Social teaching of Subsidiarity is where most of these differences come from.

So to me, as a Catholic, I can accept the Republican Platform 100%. There is NOTHING in the written platform that directly goes against Catholic Social Teaching. There are some policies that I disagree with Republicans on, and the party is far from perfect. However, the Democratic Platform has plenty that is in DIRECT conflict with Catholic Social Teaching.

To me, it’s clear, compare the two platforms (not individual policies) but the platforms, which map out the parties goals and vision.

How many of Trump’s EO’s are simply undoing EO’s of Obama? I’m not aware of any. Obama’s EO’s were criticized, not just because some did not approve of their content, but because of the very principle of governing by EO instead of by working with the congress. And now we have a President who nominally has a majority in both houses of congress in his party, and still he chooses to govern by EO. I begin to wonder if Trump paid attention in civics class when the roles of the three branches of government were explained.

Yes, but if I’m not mistaken, Trump’s EO’s are ones that have been typical of Presidents for the last 40-50 years, which are EO’s which enforce laws that were set by Congress.

Obama had several that were outside what had been typical for a President, by going around the law or establishing new law by EO.

I’m not aware of a single EO by Trump that is not in line with laws passed by Congress (even if passed several years ago)

Here’s one Republican senator calling for an exhaustive investigation. And the GOP Senate majority leader says investigation is likely. And another Republican said this mo that President Donald Trump’s possible conflicts of interest could be among the more than 40 items the House Oversight Committee investigates.

No… they just declared war on the Little Sisters of the Poor. That’s all. Oh, wait… they also declared war on EWTN, Christendom College, Catholic hospitals across the nation, and other Catholic colleges and schools who follow the magisterium of the Church.

Plus, when did Hillary or Kane distance themselves from the anti-Catholic language in the Wikileaks? They didn’t, because Hillary believes that religions need to change.

They also support Abortion 100%, even though “Jane Roe” spoke out against the Roe v Wade ruling, and was even upset with it the day it happened (she later became 100% pro life, was baptized a Christian, started working with Priests for Life, and eventually become a Catholic).

And this is just a small example from the Catholics. They, also attacked Hobby Lobby and have looked to financially destroy any conscientious objectors to “same sex marriage.”
