Yes, it did do the “trick.” Trump’s tweet spoke what the silent masses in America have felt for a long, long time, the same silent masses who were tired of being taken for granted by the democrats and voted the other way.
It may be wearing thin.

A new poll from Gallup shows that just 44 percent of Americans approve of his presidential transition efforts while 51 percent disapprove. By contrast, 83 percent approved of President Barack Obama’s transition in 2008. Even George W. Bush, who like Trump lost the popular vote, enjoyed a 61 percent approval rating of his transition as he prepared to enter the White House. There is limited enthusiasm for Trump’s Cabinet choices, with 52 percent saying they are average or better and 44 percent considering them below average or poor, according to Gallup. Only 10 percent viewed Obama’s choices as average or poor.
A recent Pew survey found that 55 percent of Americans disapprove of the job Trump has done to explain his plans while 39 percent approve. The Pew poll said just 41 percent approve of Trump’s Cabinet picks while 49 percent disapprove.
A Quinnipiac poll out this week showed that just 37 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president-elect to 51 percent who disapprove. The numbers are the reverse of Obama, who had a 55 percent approval rating in the poll.
Other readings for Trump in the poll also showed signs of serious trouble. A 53 percent majority said Trump is “not honest” and 62 percent that he is “not level-headed.” On average, Trump has a 48.7 percent unfavorable rating among Americans to 42.7 percent favorable.
62 percent … he is “not level-headed.”
Perhaps he should go back to his strategy given to him during the last week of the campaign: No tweeting allowed.

I think Trump would be taken more seriously by the general public if his political statements were not in the form of rant-style, 140 character tweets on a social media network designed for teenagers.

He should consider utilizing a bit more tact.

If you read my original post you would see that it was addressed to both parties.Sometimes less is more. Trump has no dignity or finesse and that can only be a bad thing in terms of resolving difference. Let’s hope he learns to grow up…and quickly.
I want Trump to be Trump. Lewis is a member of the losing party. He needs to get over it.

Fighting through reasoned debates benefits our nation. Fighting with mindless irrelevant personal attacks does not.
The days of reasoned debate are over since the franchise was opened to everyone, including illegal voters. Given the terrible education the government schools give people reason doesn’t stand a chance. And it wasn’t a mindless personal attack. It was the proper response to a silly claim. Not every claim deserves a long explanation and sometimes people need to be simply told they are being foolish and to be quiet.

The fact that we have civil rights at all is the impact.
That’s like saying that Louis Armstrong still has an impact today because we have jazz and its red-headed stepchild, rock.

What impact, as a civil rights “legend,” does Rep. Lewis have on people today?

Oh, yes…polls. We’ve really seen how accurate those have been these last couple of election cycles, haven’t we?
Well the sowers of epistemoligical chaos might wish you to believe otherwise, but in fact they have been very good.

Perhaps you should you do some googling.

John Lewis does not represent the people in the mid-west or the rust belt. He represents 3/4 of the area of Atlanta, Georgia. And he has been doing that very well.
John Lewis is a liar. He said tea party activists shouted a racial epithet at him. The ‘incident’ was caught on tape and there was no epithet. He is also a fear monger. He claims Republicans will bring back segregation. If he represents his district well then I don’t have any respect for the people of his district.

Maybe Lewis should listen to the people of his district, as I believe Trump carried most of the state. Isnt he supposed to represent the people rather than his personal views or opinions?
In many states the heavily populated areas tend to vote blue while the more rural areas vote red. Georgia is an example of this. The counties that make up and surround Atlanta (Fulton, Dekalb, Clayton, Henry, Douglas, Gwinette, Cobb, Walton) primarily voted blue. Lewis’s district is in this area. He represents an area that largely did not vote for Trump.

Beautiful tautology in this post.

But the real reason that reasoned debate is over is that too many people just don’t care for it. Now, some strange sense of authenticity and personal validation is preferred - however vulgar, however shallow, however malinformed, however dead-ended.

I agree that poor education is the root of this.

Oh yea. I forgot about that. Sean Hannity offered $10,000 to anyone who could provide proof of Rep. Lewis’ claim and nothing came of it. If his district is of the same activist mentality with little concern of improving their circumstances, then I suppose that he does, indeed, represent them well.

If Louis Armstrong were alive today, he would still be respected and honored for his contribution to music, just as John Lewis should be respected and honored for his service to the cause of civil rights.

See post #17 for the numbers.
