I do not see the way out yet. We have become bogged down in a 50/50 stalemate where the sides are pulling against each other with greater ferocity. Make America great? We may well make America irrelevant. I am reminded of an old episode of Star Trek, Let This be Your Final Battlefield. The two combatants hated each other so much that they ended up stranded on their husk of a world, the last two combatants to dominate a world that no longer existed.

It is only my faith that gives me hope.

Who is supporting this measure?

We know. We also know it appears defunding the police leads to more violence.
 
Also, if not mentioned, it seems he was invited to protect that business.

I do think it’s interesting, that a 17 year old is at the center of this Kenosha case. It makes me wonder if an “adult” would have avoided this but a trial hopefully, will sort this out.

I will say, “Yes, I guess so?” It seems more like a political forum of late where faith and charity are stored in the attic until after the election.

Yes, moral self-defense needs to be proportionate. What is reasonable is that which is determined by peers to be reasonable. Catholicism does not use that standard for morality because then it would be subject to be immoral in an immoral culture, that is moral relativism.

The Catholic standard is not relevant to the kid’s guilt though. The legal standard will be used. The only value of the Catholic moral standard is as a way of measuring whether we really do value life. Are we pro-life? If we see the killing of two people over the protection of property, we are not. If we see killing of two people to save one’s own life, that is acceptable. I will leave this judgement to God.

Except the term ‘proportionate’ does not appear in the Catechism when speaking of self-defense.

Responding was obviously a terrible mistake. I don’t think he realized these rioters are not just playing around. They’re professionals, some of them, many equal to the police. A 17 year old kid isn’t.

The only one who has promised it will end upon his election is Biden. This violence is a Dem show, not a Repub one. Trump no more controls it than he controls Nancy Pelosi.

That might not be so strong now that she has demonstrated she’ doesn’t believe in the Covid threat even at her age.

It went down. There is no doubt about that. Everyone agrees. But it was not from defunding the police department per se. It was from how they used their money and the reforms they instituted, especially those directed toward involvement in the community. Read about it here.

He is only 17 and has killed two persons…
Were they somehow summoned through platforms, media, something…? Why “ job”?

This the thing… how does a 17 year old land with a weapon where there are persons ( not hunting with daddy in the woods) and violence at such levels?
It is insane … he was supposed to be at school months ago…
Who summoned him or them there? What do people have inside their heads?
Who will erase from his life, mind and heart having killed two persons? Self defense or not self defense.

I think this was a “family owned business” he went to protect. Maybe his cousins owned it, something like that. I understand he killed two men, I have not defended him. .

New development tonight, someone making the claim he is a “Boogaloo boy”, claims he was with Rittenhouse some of the time, that evening.

That he claims the boy not to be related but that 32 members of that organization were there.
Was this boy summoned ?
He has his share of responsibility but are there more involved?
