Any company that had an ERISA-qualified group health plan (and that’s just about all of them) HAD to cover pre-existing conditions after (I believe it was) 60 days. Family coverage was always optional.Most of them didn’t cover pre/existing conditions, pregnancies, or much else.
I didn’t have the experience, so I’ll have to be deferential. But if I’m not mistaken, you could get into another group plan immediately if you had been on another one within so many days of getting the second one. I can’t recall the time period.we would have to wait a full year to be covered by another group plan
And some of us work every day of our lives since we were teenagersPeople with chronic illnesses usually don’t stay employed long. They can keep coverage through COBRA for a short time, then they are out of insurance altogether.
