My observation that you assume that you possess the authority of Christ, and the ability to discern where it should be used, in like manner as to what He did, is more to the point.

How would you cleanse the temple, or temple analogs?
My observation that you assume you possess the divine right to ARBITRARILY create a rule that Christians should not to follow Christ’s example, and the ability to discern where this rule applies, is more to the point.

How would you create a boundary for Christians to not follow Christ’s example?

Added observation: That authority to decide what matters to my behavior when it comes to Christ’s example seems to extend here where you also assume the right to decide which asserted premises and presumptions should be questioned (other people’s of course, not yours, given the special authority). 🙃

I would assume that one should not assume that one possesses Christ’s authority, to act and power to discern, in like manner as He did.

I have no such authority at all. I doubt you do either.

Think we are likely to make any progress on this?

You can’t talk of progress in a conversation when you create special rules where you don’t question your own premises but your interlocuters. You don’t sit on a pedestal on your own authority. You quote actual authority or explain the premises that have been questioned.

PS: You started this little sassy-come-back routine, I just gave it to you right back in kind. Acting now like you’re above it is just . . . dishonest. 🙃

Thankfully, I have only to follow Christ’s example. You are creating a rule based on your authority and I’m simply rubbishing it and letting you know neither I or anyone need to listen to an edict you issued on CAF about not following Christ’s example. 🙂

I’ll take that as a no. I’d be circumspect in the use of whips.

I’ve got a lot of reading to do and less than two months to do it.

Good night.

No, it’s not really as we share in the same prophets, saints and scriptures vis a vis the Old Testament.

Actually, their beliefs were premised on the Judeo Christian understanding of man and natural law.
Christianity is true. That doesn’t make American founders conservative in 1776.

The Judaism of today is defined by its rejection of Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah, the key premise of Christianity! This like trying to speak of intelligent design/atheist understanding. Biblical Judaism was a religion of priests, prophets, a temple and sacrifices. Modern Judaism lacks those elements.

Judaism was superseded by Christianity in the same way that chemistry and physics superseded alchemy.

In a way, I agree with you. Modern Judaism and Christianity are both offsprings of Temple Judaism. However, when people speak of “Judaeo-Christian” they are referring to the values; and these are in may ways common, whichever Judaism you refer to.

I acknowledge Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. They do not. Seems like a pretty significant difference in values to me.

What about the ten commandments, the acknowledgment of one creator-God who has intervened in history and is in relationship with his people? That creates room for a lot of common values.

There is no chosen people anymore. See St Paul along with the parable of the vineyard owner and the tenants. You might as well say European-American values. We have a few common points, but we differ on so many key things. Gun rights, free speech, and procedure in criminal courts, just to name a few.

Again, I agree in principle. Of course a Christian cannot coherently hold that there’s a special chosen people after the church’s founding. I just think the term Judaeo-Christian points at something different: i.e the values that are held to inhere, explicitly or implicitly in Judaism followed by Christianity. Modern Jews didn’t throw away those old values either. That’s all I’m saying.

The idea of man being created equal is neither a conservative or progressive ideal.

It is premised on the truth revealed by God through scripture.

Yes, but that does not repudiate all we have in common, hence my hyphenation.
