Although I question the president’s legal authority to take these actions, I am in favor of extending unemployment benefits and eviction protections. People need help. But…suspending payroll taxes?
looking at TRUMPs past,… his EO (executive order) is a SOP (standard operating procedure) “distraction”

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

to understand TRUMPs default position, in this case “payroll taxes” keep in mind his business “bias” of wanting to max out profits (i.e.not wanting to pay government),… hence anything to do w/ cutting taxes is a default approach

basically TRUMP is a creature of habit,… he like to spend other people money (AND has no room or idea of context) and will look to blame others for a mess that happens under his watch

I did oppose Obama’s immigration policy. It was better than Trump’s, but nothing of which a Christian should be proud - I believe he still holds the all-time deportation record.
America’s immigration policy is nothing to be ashamed of.
The United States has more immigrants than any other country in the world. Today, more than 40 million people living in the U.S. were born in another country, accounting for about one-fifth of the world’s migrants in 2017. The population of immigrants is also very diverse, with just about every country in the world represented among U.S. immigrants.
The U.S. foreign-born population reached a record 44.4 million in 2017. Since 1965, when U.S. immigration laws replaced a national quota system, the number of immigrants living in the U.S. has more than quadrupled. Immigrants today account for 13.6% of the U.S. population, nearly triple the share (4.7%) in 1970. However, today’s immigrant share remains below the record 14.8% share in 1890, when 9.2 million immigrants lived in the U.S.

The USCCB and God would beg to differ.

We have the best immigration record in the world. We also have the smallest emigration rate in the world, which speaks volumes, as well.
Perhaps more attention should be spent on countries with worse records, which is virtually all of them.

It’s not about needing or not needing. These programs are bloated and unsustainable with the current birth rate. Over the next few decades they will become an increasing burden on the economy, if they don’t default first.
Birthrates are dropping:

CDC reports that we are in a historical slump.

Besides, saving money isn’t really too difficult to do with proper planning. If you save, for instance, 40k per year, you can have an easy $2m after about 40 years.
Not even remotely realistic for the majority of Americans. The median income was 38K.
That’s not even considering 401k, investments, or interest plans.
Periodic Stock Market Crashes kills that idea.

Correct. That’s why there aren’t enough wage earners to support programs like SS. And the trend looks like it will continue, making the situation worse.
Short term correct.
Long term maybe not.

Obama never had a company go bankrupt!
Why is that?
Could it be because he paid his bills?
No. It’s because he never owned a business. Never operated a business. If you don’t do these, you will have a 100% track record of businesses not going bankrupt. You also will never employ others, pay business taxes into a local community or contribute to economic growth.
When one is involved in as many business ventures as Trump has been, odds are you will have some failures. Business bankruptcies are not simply “paying the bills”.

There are solutions. Some bad. Some good:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
  1. Reduce benefits: BAD: retire for less or risk workink until you drop dead at the work place.
  2. Remove the Ceiling: GOOD: everyone pays a fair share: Falls into that biblical Tithing mentality.
  3. Change retiremen age: BAD: Risk working until you drop dead at work place.
  4. Kill Benefits for the wealthy: GOOD: do they really need it?
  5. Privatize it? BAD: let someone like Trump take it over and it files for bankruptcy?

Growing up, I never met anyone who made less than 6 figures
Growing up, I only met a few people that made more than 6 figures. My husband and I combined eventually reached that number a few years before I retired…he is still working. My son and my daughter aren’t even close to 6 figures.

Part of the problem is that everything you said translates to wah wah wah to most lower income people. They are financially illiterate. My children are not because I taught them otherwise. They save what they can but unless their wage prospects changes, they will never reach high numbers and they are still much better off that most of their friends.

The first thing we should do for SS is remove the upper limit on it. It’s ridiculous that it’s there in the first place. When was the last time it was adjusted?

Business bankruptcies are not simply “paying the bills”.
Many companies operate without borrowing a significant amount of money. I don’t think I ever worked for a company (other than Robert Maxwell’s), that was heavily in debt. So I disagree with your premises.

That might be the median (which is pretty mind blowing),
Not mind blowing at all. It is called being aware of reality and data.

38K is the 2018 Number.
but it’s very possible to position yourself to move into a much higher income.
possible but unlikely for median which represents the majority.

Another source the census reports it at a median of 59K. Still not enough to save 40k a year.

And another source:

Growing up, I never met anyone who made less than 6 figures, and my neighborhood certainly wasn’t the only place in America like that.
Your neighborhood is not the average. It is what we call an outlier. It would fall on the far right of the any bell curve. My neighborhood growing up ranged 15k to 25K. It would have fallen on the left side of any Bell curve.

And many companies do borrow money. Sometimes it doesn’t work out.

obama being a lawyer has a worldview that society can governed by legislation

the talents needed to be a successful business person IMHO requires people skills (in order to hype a project), engineering AND daily management persistence

WRT “engineering” said another way this is being able to design something that works over the long run that takes into account natural limiting factors,… daily management is just that having the people skills to get employees/investors/consumes to demand the product

two business superstarts IMHO are steve jobs and elon musk,… in both these cases these two individuals created innovative products that consumers are passionate about because employees/investors also believe in the vision of the CEO

WRT to OBAMA and TRUMP, as I see things both these characters have partisan supporters (enough so to become POTUS),… BUT as I see things they both lack the technical engineering mindset needed to create a viable business that will last over the long run

also in the case of TRUMP IMHO one should be very wary of his psychological makeup,…

since this thread is taking place on a catholic forum,… as I see things there are big religious warning signs (specifically what seems to be his core belief system)

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

AND according to the data, seems a majority of other people to some degree sees things as I do

https://www.washingtonpost.com/post...nald-trumps-popularity-with-christian-voters/

bottom line,… POTUS is in effect akin to a CEO of a public company,… as such one has to wonder based on past operating track records, is the individual at the controls able to successfully navigate rough periods???

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

having looked at TRUMPs past technical management decisions,… sadly I fear
the USA is going to end up in much worst shape than when he entered office

Going off on this tangent briefly; how is it different to question Trump’s religious beliefs from questioning Obama’s religious beliefs?

mentioned belief systems to put things into context, specifically that TRUMPs talent is promoting a business not actually running it

take TRUMPs failed airline for example

kinda had a laugh when he insisted on installing HEAVY luxury marble sinks on aircraft (i’ve time marked the section on the youtube video)

sure luxury touches are nice that add eye candy appeal to a business,… BUT as a pilot and a physicist am all too aware of limiting factors, specifically w/ luxury marble sinks on aircraft (the weight of that item takes away potential passenger revenue)

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

WRT to strategic defaults (i.e. going bankrupt 5 times),… TRUMPs talent is promoting a business AND his other talent is structuring companies to offload his potential financial liabilities

TRUMPs talent is spending lots of money adding all kinds of bling to a project THEN WHEN ONE OF HIS BUSINESS VENTURES FAILS AND IS SOLD OFF (for pennies on the dollar), he always has an excuse!!!

case in point cost to build the TRUMP taj 1.2 BILLION, sale price 50 million

https://www.casino.org/news/trump-taj-mahal-sold-for-just-50-million/

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

FYI WRT

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

am trying to point out that when things head south TRUMPs historical SOP (standard operating procedure) is to focus on some things he wants employees/investors/voters to notice,… simply because he want to distract employees/investors/voters of some other big thing that happened on his watch
