Trump stands by statements on Mexican illegal immigrants, surprised by backlash

You do realize that Apocalypto is a work of fiction, right?

You are right that indigenous peoples are no different than their European supressors and overlords, but that doesn’t change the fact that Europeans did horrible and terrible stuff to indigenous peoples in the Americas, not to mention those in Africa and Asia. This is basic history.

What is Aztec or Mayan Privledge? Whites are the ones with power and control. Whites are the ones in social-economic-political systems of control that take advantage and exploit Peoples of Color. White Privledge is something that Whites particularly on the Right always deny because they are directly participating and benefiting from it.

The countries that many immigrants come from are a result of U.S. and other Western countries foreign policies in these countries. Look at the massive immigration into Europe. The Europeans did that to themselves through colonialism and imprealism.
Sounds like you want to exploit peoples of color if you want open borders that kill many making this trek and the last thing we need is the drug war in Mexico here with bodies hanging from bridges. That is what we get with innocent Americans dying because of Illegals here. That includes Hispanics as I know of one case in Dallas.

Absolutely! If that doesn’t stop them - put the owner/operators in JAIL! This issue can be handled AFTER the border is SEALED OFF and all tunnels are BLOWN BACK! Our ports need 24/7 cargo testing and random examination also.
Why not start fining them now? Why wait? They are breaking the law by hiring people they should not hire.

Seeing how so many making that trek through Mexico deal with horrible things including death by crossing the Sonoran desert, I’m not sure if the ‘pro-open-borders’ crowd really care that much about the immigrants. Strict border enforcement would limit a lot of these bad things that happen.
Actually that’s more of an urban myth creating by the Right.

If there’s a means, there’s a way.

People cross the border illegally because it’s way too difficult to come into this country legally. Creating a large fence across our border is not only very expensive, but won’t stop undocumented immigration.

That’s right, the laws are on the books. The laws may be on the books to to shut down the Sanctuary Cities, at the least, Sanctuary Cities can be said to be held criminally responsible per Court Rulings. The Court made such a ruling.

No person or human is “illegal.” It’s funny how those on the far right are so “pro-life” when they’re not very “pro-life” outside the womb, in this case regarding undocumented and documented immigrants.
How about criminal alien? Does that work for you? By coming into the country without permission, they are committing a crime. So, criminal alien.
How would you define the “best” and he “brightest?!” That is a completely subjective and relative statement. All people have worth and value. That’s an undeniable fact.
In general, the best and the brightest. Those that can offer our country something. Since we are simply having a discussion here, I don’t need to write the law. I am just giving my opinion. And in my opinion, we don’t need more general laborers. We don’t need more people that come here simply because they are in walking distance.

And of course every person has value. But that doesn’t mean that every person needs to come to the US.

I’ve seen the borders many times, enforcement is a good thing, there is a check to what you are saying. In fact, I’ve seen the Border and into the interior of Mexico many many times.

As it is, the pro-open-borders crowds in an inadvertent way, help increase the hardship of poor immigrants.

All countries have border laws, Mexico, Switzerland, so really, if one is asserting racism, that goes for Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Israel, everywhere.

Even some Democrats are coming out against Sanctuary Cities despite those who have nothing to their argument but negative comments on others.

J Peterson is correct; Trump did not specify illegal immigrants. He categorized all the Mexican people this way.

And even if he had singled out illegal immigrants, most of them are not drug runners, they’re not criminals, they are not rapists. They are *poor, *which, I am sure, in his eyes is the same thing.

I get a little sick to my stomach when I hear the racists defend Trump’s outrageous comments. The fact that there are people who agree with him and will probably vote makes me doubt the wisdom of universal suffrage.
Have you seen the tons and tons of drugs the Border Patrol has taken from those illegals? Drugs they are planning on destroying our young people with. Destroy our young and our whole country falls apart. That’s what Communism did to Russia by taking God out of everything. We are rapidly going down that same path. Destroy our young in any way they can. Even the non-criminals should not be flooding into our country without proper papers. That is breaking our laws and that’s why its called illegal !! IN the meantime Mexico makes tons of money off us by selling their produce in our stores. I don’t buy them. When will we ever learn !! God Bless, Memaw

He never explicitly states illegal immigration but I agree it’s implied in the final sentence of the wider quote. I don’t believe he was simply talking about illegal immigration though. A man speaks what’s in his heart (we don’t have any other access then people’s words and actions) and his words don’t really make a clear distinction between Mexican’s and illegal immigrants. He is also painting Mexico as an enemy which is news to me.

The “they’re not you” statement stands and can’t be defended in my opinion. He is clearly trying to place dividers between different people. I am as human as a Mexican. I am them despite Trumps small minded idea of what it means to be a human.

On a more lighthearted note, do the border guards that he talks to have competence? If so then his last statement is a lie. How can they give an honest assessment of what’s going on if we don’t know what’s going on? 😛
Another example of ones, “what I think” he meant !! Its not only the left media that is good at that! God Bless, Memaw

When a “non criminal” decides to sneak across the border into the U.S. they have decided they want to be an illegal (criminal). They break the law and become lawbreakers. They become an even heavier burden on the citizens of our country as they are recipients of our provisions of shelter, food, medicine, education and all the rest. They bring disease due to their country’s deficits. Many make some money and then return across the border.

This is just a glimpse of what takes place with illegals.

And when we hire or hire someone who hires these people, we are encouraging this behavior.

If there were no jobs, 90% of the problem would go away. There would still be some who came to stay with relatives, but most people would go somewhere else. When the ecomony tanked in the US, the number of people crossing went down because there weren’t jobs. It seemed to work better than increased border patrols and fences.

I want educated people with degrees who have something to offer coming over here. That goes for all immigrants.
I dont want uneducated people taking the American kids jobs.
TEPO–If you don’t mind my asking, what’s your American background? How long has your family been here, and where did they come from? How educated were they when they arrived?

A lot of those coming across the border are actually from China I understand, maybe India too. No reason to imagine it is only against Latinos.

And by the way, how does Mexico treat those who enter illegally from Guatemala and Central America. Oh, this must be different. I guess the people in Mexico have Mexican Privilege.
You do realize that many undocumented immigrants fly into JFK and LAX with a tourist visa and then stay here?

A Chinese person doesn’t need to transit through Mexico to get here.

I just met with a couple that bought a house in New Orleans this year. The nanny for their child came into the USA from Europe on a tourist visa and never went back. She’s not a legal citizen, but it seems generally challenges to legal presence don’t occur much for a person that isn’t thought to be from a Latin area. So it seems to be a non issue for her.

So what if it is too hard, people do not have the “right” to be here, we as a country say who can be here. Sneaking into the country is an ILLEGAL activity, don’t try to sugarcoat it.

Manual labor jobs, the ones that uneducated people who sneak in here to perform are a thing of the past. We don’t have them available, then comes the birth of children and welfare costs. You think gardeners, busboys, maids and newspaper deliverers are paying these costs, I know not. The influx of people with no modern skills is a cost not a gain to America.

You speak of white privilege, sure, I had the privilege of paying for and attending college so that I did not have to endure a lifetime of low paying manual labor jobs, the kind I performed when I was in high school and while attending college.

Remember one thing friend. It’s the people who make the country, not the country who makes the people. We made this country, others should try to make or change their own instead of assuming that America owes them citizenship.

I see you have not answered anything about the treatment of, or policy of, Mexico, in regards to people who try to sneak into their country.

No person or human is “illegal.”.
That’s a nice catchphrase that’s been created by the far left, and it may look good on protest signs or as a # campaign. But it’s really meaningless in this discussion as it is illogical and it’s a an otherwise empty appeal to emotion in what should be a rational and practical discussion.

Some came during the founding years, others came later during the 19th century. Were they all educated? No probably not… But how many people were educated back in the days of horses and gaslamps? Not too many. In the 1800’s? Still not all that many.

I would argue that the education systems in many these places aren’t much different these days.

The U.S. pharmaceutical industry is succeeding quite well without the help of Mexican drug lords. Take a look at the epidemic of prescription drug addiction over the past 15 years.
