Anyways, I feel like people have been patient in allowing me to express my opinions. I dont want to take advantage of that, so I think I’ll just take a break from this and ponder for a while, because I don’t want to offend even though I am obviously confused on the issue.

I second that for myself. I apologize if any of my views offend others. There are problems we all need to work on along with ourselves.

👍

You’re always very reasonable PathFinder…👍 I enjoy your posts and your kindness very much.

J Peterson is correct; Trump did not specify illegal immigrants. He categorized all the Mexican people this way.

And even if he had singled out illegal immigrants, most of them are not drug runners, they’re not criminals, they are not rapists. They are *poor, *which, I am sure, in his eyes is the same thing.

I get a little sick to my stomach when I hear the racists defend Trump’s outrageous comments. The fact that there are people who agree with him and will probably vote makes me doubt the wisdom of universal suffrage.
Anyone with a brain know he is talking about illegals. The measurable fact is, illegals are a drain on the system. Few pay any federal taxes. I also hope that Trump, if elected, ends many h1b visa.

I apologize if I, in violation of forum rules, discredited any comments that opined that an entire nation of people, one that daily quiets itself for a moment to honor the Blessed Virgin, might be genetically inclined to prefer lawlessness.

Certainly these opinions are worthy of our attention and are valued for what they are.

All countries have border laws, Mexico sends people back too.
Oh and I agree that’s not the issue here, but not all the people that cross Mexico to get into the USA are Mexicans. Remember last year when we had all those kids come from Central America?

Right. They may have been spreading ebola.

When I was living in Texas the Mexican President at the time came to visit Texas, he was quoted as saying “We send our best and brighest to the USA”. I remember thinking “Really”? If these are your best and brighest, how bad are the ones that remain behind. It is a know fact that mexico encourages and helps people illegally cross the border. What Mexico gets in return is US dollars sent back to their country. We take their social problems and they get paid for it. Mexicans need to build their country and stop demanding the USA solves all their problems. Its not our fault that so many countries south of the border are they way they are, it their fault.

Just be you have friends that are Hispanic does not mean you are not racist. Not everyone that comes through Mexico is Mexican, remember last year with all the people from Central America
So what makes someone a racist?

I am from Mexico (and I live in Mexico) so I will state my opinion:

I notice how many tend to generalise us all as criminals. According to that I must be one, when in fact I don’t know how to shoot a single bullet.

We are blamed for the drugs avaliable in your country, but you forget that it takes two to tango. The United States of America are the biggest drug consumers in the whole world. So, if there are criminals related to drug traffic, we (well, not me, I am not involved in that, but you know what I mean) are definitely not the only ones to blame. I blame drug traffic for many of my countries problems, but it also has to do to the fact that we’re next to the biggest consumers in the world.

Donald Trump is spreading hate speech. Either that or he can’t explain his ideas very well.
Poor people emigrating to your country are in a difficult situation. Legal immigration takes longer. It’s either leaving soon or standing poverty. I am not particularly proud of illegal immigration. I dislike it, and it doesn’t give us a good reputation to the rest of the world. But I can understand it.

I must also say that all Latin America is under your government’s will. They have a lot of control over our countries, our exports, our politics, etc. That kind of dependence stops Latin American growth in general. I’m not saying your country is the one to blame for being third world countries, but it is a factor. Us being developed is against American interests.

Sorry if I’m being too harsh. It’s just my opinion.

No one is calling all Mexicans, criminals or any other nationalities for that matter.
Neither is Trump…he’s just against illegal immigrants… but focused on the criminals who come here illegally over the Southern border.

It should be made easier for people to come here legally, so they wouldn’t have to choose the illegal way.

The way the stories are reported, I can see why people think Trump said that about all Mexicans. I don’t think the reporters are trying to misreport his words generally speaking. His exact words from a 53 minute speech is in the first few pages of this thread. I’ve run into others confused about his words.

I listened to & read his speech a few times. His big mistake was saying that a only a few of the people coming here are good people.
His 53 min. speech was mostly ad lib. & that was a mistake. When you say things off the top of your head, you are bound to exaggerate & say things that the listeners will jump on & blow out of proportion.
Trump should have prepared what he was going to say & edit out things that would be misinterpreted.

I think Trump knew what he was saying. The only time he’s ever really seemed to take a semi-sensible with his speech has been on “The Apprentice”. Seriously - he’s about getting attention for himself. Remember in 2012, when Trump was the only public figure still semi-pushing a “birther” argument (that Obama wasn’t born in the US)? Most of us are too young to remember his rants against the NFL in the 1980s when he was a USFL team owner.

“And some, I assume, are good people.”- page 1

Some does not mean “a few”. But this is the problem with his speech, it is easy to understand in different ways. It is probably reported somewhat erroneous in what he says.

All kinds of people cross the border as my friend reminded me. Though Trump did say “illegal aliens”, I can see there is a bit of confusion on who he was talking about. He meant all illegal aliens. It almost seems in a way he singled out Mexicans who are probably about half of the people that enter.
Whose fault is it that MOST of them do come from Mexico?? God Bless, Memaw

To me, some implied a few. 🤷

I doesn’t make any difference what someone says, others can always make more of it than intended. Seems to be the name of the game today. God Bless, Memaw

Whatevs. I heard him interviewed again today. I have nothing good to say about anything he has to say.

I just find it hilarious that people feel comfortable with calling people “illegal” or “illegals” as if they were inhuman or subhuman. It’s funny, most if not all of you believe in the personhood of an embryo and / or of a fetus, yet call a person outside the womb, “illegal.”
