Ditto. I am a Democrat to the core on a lot of issues. But I feel like the party has declared war on me on social issues. Really out for blood. This is new. I blame it on Obama and I did not see that coming, I admit. Prolife, Catholic Democrats were tolerated if not listened to up to Obama. That is where the trouble really started, the war on religious liberty.

I like Cruz, but he is starting in on flat taxes, etc. That is the “Reagonimics” stuff that scared me away from Romney/Paul. Crazy. I am a greenie, tree hugger too. I have never not voted before, but I am close to that here.
Are you one of those who say that choosing Cruz vs Trump is like choosing between poison and a bullet? 😊

And all that’s Obama’s fault? I don’t see it. He didn’t have anything to do with many of these things like Kim Davis, Washington State, etc., etc. More were the fault of Congress or the Supreme Court.
👍

Obama was not involved in many of the things listed unless in some remote way because of the two people he appointed to the Supreme Court. Kim Davis was put in jail by a district court judge.

The Supreme Court is now activist on many liberal issues, overriding popular votes on legislation across the country. I believe this exceeds their “judicial” role in the three branches of the government as originally organized. That was the only way to get gay marriage through - shove it through, against the people (or “extreme religious bigots” if you prefer…depending on your viewpoint of course).
The recent decision on gay marriage was decided by a closely divided Supreme Court. It would not have been decided this way if not for Anthony Kennedy, a Republican appointee. And his sympathy for LGBT people goes back long before Obama became president. In 1996, he wrote the Court’s majority opinion in Romer vs. Evans which struck down Colorado’s amendment that prohibited protected status based on homosexuality. In 2003 he wrote the Court’s majority opinion in Lawrence vs. Texas which declared state sodomy laws to be unconstitutional. This is not some sort of new activism on his part since Obama became president.

Yes and no. I am committed to the Cruz “poison” over the Trump bullet, no question there.

But if Cruz’s positions on fiscal/economic issues - budget cuts, tax cuts get too deep into Paul Ryan territory I may start to get a little spooked. Ditto environment. I am hoping that doesn’t happen. Still totally plan to pull the lever for him. (actually circle a little dot black with a pen to be more accurate)

I am fine with calling it Democratic activism if you prefer. I don’t really see much distinction between that and the Obama administration, technically anyway. Am I supposed to? (and why do you think the Republican governor of Kentucky is approaching the Kim Davis situation differently from his Democratic predecessor?)

I once overheard a Planned Parenthood volunteer on a Seattle street telling a woman to confirm that any Democratic candidate she supported actively supported Planned Parenthood. (and no I did not intervene, didn’t say a word)

Why is this only affecting the Little Sisters of the Poor? Why aren’t other religious complaining about it?
Are you serious? You are very adept at cutting and pasting info here so no doubt if you google your question you will get the info you seek

Among the many other plaintiffs is your relative, Fr. Frank Pavone. How is it possible that an informed person would not be aware of this, or was it just a ploy to marginalize the Little Sisters?

What does Paul Ryan advocate that you do not agree with?

I think his budget cut proposals were too severe and fell disproportionately on the middle and lower classes, the elderly. (Social Security) Cruz is also tossing around the idea of a flat tax - we all pay 10%, one standard deduction $4000, mortgage, charity deduction. If you make $40,000 or $400,000, or $4,000,000, same story. I think that is nuts.

I do want to reduce government spending, and I am ok with tax cuts. But I think we need a *moderate *approach to both. Tax cuts should fall proportionately - primarily on the middle class (who have had it much tougher under Obama than either the very poor or very rich). I agree most of us are overtaxed, but I support progressive tax rates (and cuts). I believe taxes on the highest incomes should hold around 30-40%, something like that, the middle class around 10%, families making $30,000 should not pay taxes, etc.

(I support simplifying the tax code; I am actually up for getting rid of the capital gains tax. What a nightmare - you pay capital gains, then usually lose the money anyway (long term gains), then file capital losses paperwork. Crazy.) We have to simplify all of this.

Back to Ryan, I am not convinced Reaganomics work. I like someone like Kasich much better on these issues than Cruz, so far. I am just going by rumors. Cruz has not announced anything formally in terms of a platform, I don’t think anyway.

I’m not a Cruz fan, but I think it’s abundantly clear that SS as we know it is unsustainable. Whether it’s enough or not, I would favor means testing it and Medicare as well. There is nothing right about entitling the likes of Warren Buffett or even a guy making $250,000/year on his investment income to SS retirement and Medicare, which is paid for out of taxes working people are now paying. It just isn’t right.

I don’t favor a flat tax, but one could be devised with a standard deduction that would free the lower income workers from it. There would be some flat tax percentage which, if it applied to all other income, would probably be fairer than what we have now.

Some of the super-wealthy will pay no taxes at all if, like some we know of, donate enormous value in stock (on which they never paid any taxes) to some tax deductible foundation they control, thereby paying no taxes on huge incomes they DO receive.

Personally, I would eliminate deductions for that kind of thing.

Trump is right: The system is rigged. It’s rigged in favor of front-runners. That’s why Trump, who is leading the Republican nominating contest, has a larger percentage of delegates (46 percent) than of votes (37 percent). Unsurprisingly, Trump never mentions when the rules have helped him. He much prefers to whine and peddle conspiracy theories when they don’t

Have you ever heard that florida changed their system from proportional to winner-take-all very early in the campaign in order to favor bush and rubio who were both considered a shoe in for florida? It wasnt meant to favor trump but they never expected him to do so well. Do you still blame trump for getting it all in Florida? Kasich won Ohio, all of it even though trump was very close.

I don’t believe the majority of american people will side with national review on this one. The more cruz play withy delegates eyeing for second ballot, the more disliked he will be. Cruz will lose. He has no chance whatsoever.

I fully understand what your saying, I was a HUGE Ron Paul fan and the gop changed the rules to favor Romney, it just so happens those rules should now be helping trump, but he apparently isn’t quite the deal maker he claims to be or he would already be at 1237. He is quick to criticize others for not making the right deals, but when it comes to him losing to better deal makers he cries foul.
