The election process in the general this year will be a huge theatre show. Probably an entertaining one with Trump, but a theatre show nonetheless.

The stars have aligned perfectly for Mrs Clinton to become Madame President.

She must not be able to believe her luck.
I agree that it’s all leaning very much her way. I think the most important thing for the GOP to do may well be to stress that a nomination is just … well, a nomination. I.e. that it can only request/recommend that people vote for _________ in November, not actually control how anyone will vote.

I agree, but I also think he’s smart enough to see that it isn’t going to happen.
I think it could. He still could pull out the nomination before the convention, although I admit, that would be very difficult. For the Republicans to deny him the nomination when he’d be only 50 delegates shy, would be a travesty that would greatly injure the Republican Party. And I’m no Trump supporter, but a lot of people are.

New York turned out for Trump - thank you Lord! May he continue to carry our causes to a sweeping victory.

Secular, liberal, and all things Democrat Party need hot water, soap and some bleach to begin cleaning them up!

An intriguing thinkpiece. Definitely worth the read, no matter what grotto says.

Grotto only gives good advice! Read with caution - very smarmy and slanted. If you like that sort of waste of time - this link is for you.

Hillary will have sufficient money in the general. A lot of people aren’t contributing now because she’s the de facto Democratic nominee already.
But I think Trump could spend more than Clinton or her surrogates, because of his personal wealth.

LOL The Clintons aren’t exactly poor:

“Hillary Clinton’s net worth is $31.3 million. Our Hillary Clinton net worth number comes from analyzing her 2015 U.S. Public Financial Disclosure Reports. Bill Clinton has an estimated net worth of $80 million. That gives a combined Bill and Hillary Clinton net worth of $111 million dollars.”

Not in Trump’s range, true. And neither one of them has won the nomination yet! The Repubs. are still on their “StopTrump” crusade. It’s doubtful they will nominate him unless he arrives at the convention with the required number of delegates, and another candidate would not have his money, and would have to start from scratch.

Hillary wins votes without spending a lot of money. 🤷 More power to her. 👍 I wish people would give me millions!

Knowing the electorate as I am coming to do, I don’t think money will make any difference. Lots of folks will vote to help the first woman president as they flocked to elect the first black president. It is very concerning that so many voters are so shallow. I do not include those who have actually studied the issues and comes to a conclusion one way or the other. I maintain the majority of those voting do not.

I’m not convinced the woman-factor is going to be enough. There are people concerned about terrorism, health care, their own personal finances, and the first woman president thing, I suspect it doesn’t have as much pull as voting and electing the first Black or mixed-race President does, because of the history of slavery, segregation etc.

These are pretty interesting statistics.

For Hillary Clinton, “$64,392,304” has been spent from “outside money” and “$159,903,968” of "candidate commitee money and for Donald Trump, “$2,292,032” has been spent from “outside money” and “$34,740,678” of “candidate commitee money” - opensecrets.org/pres16/

Another lie to the pile. Hillary claimed they were flat broke when they left the White House! Maybe that is why she left with furniture and other treasures when they moved out. They had to make returns - who knows if it was all there.

While Moody’s model says a Democrat will win, the majority of election models are showing a Republican win in November (Helmut Norpoth’s election model is showing a win for Trump against Clinton, but not Cruz against Clinton): lifezette.com/polizette/models-predict-gop-win-even-with-trump/
Notice the huge qualifier in the article though:

“Some have questioned the two models’ reliability given the unique variable that is Trump’s presence in the election. Unfortunately there is no way to work Trump into either of the models.”

Trump is like a piece of political dynamite, destroying the old certainties.

Under a man like Kasich, I’d have seen a GOP victory as a plausible - perhaps even likely - result. Mrs Clinton 's reputation becomes her. She isn’t people friendly or personable. The man on the street just doesnt trust her. Even lifelong feminists would forgo the novelity of having a female president out of lackluatre feeling towards her. I mean, Susan Sarandon for crying out loud has suggested she will not vote in the general if Bernie lost to Hillary. She carries incredible baggage - baggage that in any normal race would significantly curtail a candidate’s chance. But this is like no other American election I can think of. It’s a freak and is perfectly timed for Clinton to have her hour. She has the luck of the gods that woman, I tell you.

The stars are aligned for her. It looks almost like fate to me. Plus, she is perfectly qualified for the job - her personal qualities aside.

Cruz IMHO would lose even more badly to Hillary than Trump. Just look how stoutly New Yorkers rejected his extreme, fringe right-wing views. That’s a taste of what a Cruz - Clinton general would entail.

The GOP missed the boat this time with Mr Kasich. A contested convention leading to a last minute rescue candidate looks more remote to me following New York. Trump still has the wind in his sails and ultimately that can only serve to help Hillary.

I, too, think Trump would be harder for Clinton to beat than Cruz. I think she would steamroll over Cruz.

Trump and Sanders have made Hillary a lot more personable, though. She knows she has to be to remain competitive.

A lot of your fellow Democrats want that as well.
It’s not so much that we Democrats want Trump to be the GOP nominee. In fact, I think he would be a formidable candidate in the general election. Rather, we feel that if he has the majority of delegates as well as the popular vote, he earned the candidacy.

If I just wanted someone Hillary could handily beat, it would be Cruz. It will be close with Trump. Can’t say who I think would win at this point. Probably Hillary in a close race.

AGREED, I just don’t think she’s got it naturally. I don’t know what she’s like as a person in private but her public persona always seems so contrived. That said, she’s got in the bag now as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t feel that Trump can beat Clinton or even come close to doing so. His comments and style have caused such mass outrage not only in the US but abroad. He won’t fare as badly as Cruz though, I concur.
