What the GOP is doing is similar to what Sanders is getting from the democrat party, no? I don’t quite understand how Bernie keeps winning these states but getting fewer delegates?
Besides what Lily Bernans explained, the Democratic Party also doesn’t have winner take all states. It proportions it’s delegates based more along the votes in various areas or districts of the state. That way someone who votes for Hillary in a Bernie state can still have their vote to count and mean something. And it works the same for Bernie voters in a Hillary state. That’s how they each win delegates from the same state. Plus Hillary built such a lead early on. Just the other wk she still had 2.5 million votes than Bernie. She had more than Donald Trump too but that’s another story. Perhaps TBD more so in the fall if Trump still wins his party’s nomination under its rules. 🙂

Thanks Lily and Sy Noe. The situation is very different then on the two sides. Cruz is getting help from the GOP to switch Trump delegates over on second ballot as well as shutting out trump in state conventions such as Colorado where voters don’t have a say at all. If not for the corruption this might actually be interesting. The delegates Cruz believed shored up for himself on second ballot may still change on the convention floor, if Trump knows how to play the game.

politico.com/story/2016/04/colorado-gop-nevertrump-tweet-221766

Moments after announcing that Ted Cruz had swept all 34 delegate slots at the Colorado GOP convention Saturday, the state party tweeted: “We did it. #NeverTrump.”

Within minutes, the tweet had been deleted.

Steve House, the Colorado GOP chairman, insisted his staff had nothing to do with the tweet and is now investigating.

“There’s no way we tweeted that,” House said, although he acknowledged that the state party was responsible for deleting it.

Hand caught in the cookie jar?

In light of this, can the GOP really expect trump supporters to stick with them after kicking trump out?

Of course you Brits wouldn’t care about American nationalism, but those Americans who have been hurt by illegal immigrants just might. Those who have tired of an incompetent government who can’t balance a budget and jack up our healthcare prices and sign dangerous nuclear agreements with Iran, they might care about putting American citizens first for a change. Those of us who want national security may care about not letting people come into the country who cannot be vetted. You want to call us xenophobic? Then you take all the refugees and start admitting as many immigrants as we already have.

For some reason I thought you were. What’s your home country?

If America decides to work with other countries and build a safe zone for the syrian refugees instead of receiving them here, how is that automatically xenophobic? The point is not to say that Americans are better than others but that there may be better ways to do certain things.

Completely off-topic, but a friend of mine has traveled to Ireland twice and tells me it is the most physically beautiful country on earth. I must visit someday since I believe I was Irish in a prior life, given my enormous love of and empathy for Irish folksong.

Okay, new to this thread, so this has probably been said before, but here we go:

Donald Trump is winning the Republican race because he knows how to sell himself. It’s what he has been doing for 40 years, through his various products and his TV show The Apprentice. He’s someone people who aren’t well-versed in politics already know, and he’s LOUD, so people who didn’t know him before definitely know him now.

He is also winning because he is tapping into a deep resentment that people have towards government in general. Donald Trump is an outsider; he has never held or run for political office before. His manner of speaking is almost exactly opposite that you would expect from most politicians, and his campaign platform is to tear down the old institutions and build them from scratch, as he says, making America great again. Incidentally, this movement isn’t isolated to the United States; the National Front in France is running on the same platform and has almost a third of France’s seats in the EU Parliament. Frankly, people are annoyed with politicians, and Donald Trump isn’t one.

Last, Donald Trump is winning because he is appealing to his specific subset of people and keeping them in his eyes. The relatively under-educated white male conservative faction is actually really powerful, though it may look small because they tend to stick to themselves (unless they’re attending Tea Party rallies or Sunday-go-to-meetin’.). This ideology of conservative nationalism is at least as old as the West and probably as old as America itself – after all, the Patriots wanted freedom from taxes and the right to make their own way of doing things, right? Isn’t that what people want anyway?
How condescending!

Trump’s political immaturity is simply a consequence of his personal immaturity. He is probably not a bad person at heart, but he is certainly both a sore loser and a sore winner. It appears that his remark about abortion and the likelihood that women should receive some punishment for having one may have been the proverbial straw. More likely, the cumulative effect of his often foolish as well as contradictory comments are just beginning to catch up with him. He may yet be the GOP candidate, however. Time will tell.

Thanks for the fascinating information about Jews’ role in Irish history. A separate thread on this topic would indeed be interesting.

No-it merely confirms the New York Primaries are coning up. Heck we might even have Hillary become a Yankees fan again!
Yes, that too. Who would have thought we would have three presidential contenders associated with New York: two native NY’ers, Trump born in Queens, and Sanders born in Brooklyn, as well as one candidate, Hillary Clinton, who adopted New York as her home town when she was Senator?

The country is surely in good hands; don’t you agree?

Then how do we know about it?
Can a Trump supporter answer this?
I wasn’t sure if estesbob’s question was meant seriously or not; but I believe “unannounced” generally means not-announced-ahead-of-time (not necessarily that something is don’t quietly). So personally I don’t have a problem with NBC calling it “unannounced”. My just 2 cents.

Depends on what country you’re talking about 🙂

It confirms Trump’s love of New York City.
Well, yes, for *some *aspects of it anyhow.

Do you recall this:
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door

It is… . It was the land on my ancestors from my grandad back on my dad’s side. As soon as I set foot there my first thought was : Lord, it must have broken their heart to leave this beauty".
Today, I visited the Inmigrants Hotel in Bs As which is now a museum ,where Inmigrants arrived and were given food and a bed and could stay till they found a job.
It was humbling. A good dose of gratitude.
