Looks like the Trump campaign has gone to Capitol Hill trying to get some Republican support for Trump and his statements against the Khans…

The response has been silence to his request according to Senate sources. Congressional Republicans are not abandoning him, but they’re not going to help him out of this pickle either. And now Trump has also got the VFW going after him as well.

I read that a group of Gold Star families has also blasted Trump. This issue is turning into a real tar baby for Trump.

Firstly, I am not a Democrat Catholic.

I was a Republican Catholic until the Repulican Party became the Party of Crazy.

Secondly, since Trump is not prolife, and Hillary is not prolife, there is nothing in Catholic teaching that asserts I cannot vote for Hillary.

Also, I am in good company, leaving the Republican Party, along with George Will.

Will has said: “This is not my party”.

Upon his departure and criticism of Trump, Trump responded with: "“You know he looks smart because he wears those little glasses,” he said at a rally in November. “If you take those glasses away from him, he’s a dummy.”

Seriously.

This man is being considered for the highest office in the country? He says that someone–a very respected and intellectually astute someone-- is a…dummy?

Yeah, that’s brutal (link):

*Mr. Trump,

We are all Gold Star Families, who have lost those we love the most in war. Ours is a sacrifice you will never know. Ours is a sacrifice we would never want you to know.

Your recent comments regarding the Khan family were repugnant, and personally offensive to us. When you question a mother’s pain, by implying that her religion, not her grief, kept her from addressing an arena of people, you are attacking us. When you say your job building buildings is akin to our sacrifice, you are attacking our sacrifice.

You are not just attacking us, you are cheapening the sacrifice made by those we lost.

You are minimizing the risk our service members make for all of us.

This goes beyond politics. It is about a sense of decency. That kind decency you mock as “political correctness.”

We feel we must speak out and demand you apologize to the Khans, to all Gold Star families, and to all Americans for your offensive, and frankly anti-American, comments.

We hope you will hear us.

Sincerely,

(undersigned)

Here’s what the Gold Star families said in their statement:

What this whole ordeal does do for Trump is keeps him in the political spotlight. The man has a knack for publicity. As the saying goes, “There’s not such thing as bad publicity.” I wonder how long that maxim will hold good for him?

In short she called her a liar. Of course she continued to lie about the cause of the Benghazi attack until emails were revealed she knew the day after attack that it had nothing to do with the video. Why did she lie to parents of the victims? Why did she lie to the American people?

Trump hurt the feelings of a gold star family. Hillary left four Americans to die and then lied about it.
But there is a difference between calling someone a liar and saying they are mistaken, isn’t there? The choice of words one uses does matter. And the way you say “Hillary left four Americans to die” almost suggests this was intentional. It was not, and we will probably never know the whole truth of the Benghazi tragedy. I am not saying Hillary is an angel or that her judgment was sound in the matter, but surely this tragic event was not something she intended or something she had no regrets about. Neither she nor Trump is an evil person.

Egg-zactly right.

It’s like saying a surgeon whose patient died simply let him die.

Sometimes there’s just bad outcomes to good decisions.

No Seamus. That my well be cultural but it’s not Islam
That’s a bit like saying “once saved always saved” is not Christian. We, as Catholics don’t believe that, but a lot of Protestants do, and yet we call them Christians.

At Nate Silver’s 538, his Now-cast has Clinton at 82.2 percent compared to Trump at 17.7 percent. That’s a pretty dramatic upswing for Clinton who was trailing Trump in the Now-cast last week.

I’ll pay attention to polls after Labor Day, not before. It’s simply too early now since many people are uncertain, and so there is bound to be a lot of volatility.

Yes. Also worth noting that the family of Ambassador Stevens has repeatedly asked Trump to stop using his death for political purposes, and also repeatedly said they do not believe Hillary Clinton is to blame for his death.
