I admit that Trump plays on my id/ego and for that reason I will probably end up voting for him if the choice is between him and Hillary.
Kasich…on the other hand demands we walk the higher road even at the risk of losing it all to Hillary.

Somewhere along the way you’ll have to make peace witht it all.
If Trump manages to get elected (which I’m not too sure will happen; he has a lot of support, but the movement against him is much larger), I can only imagine the social regression that will come from it. The US might not be as loved internationally as some would like to think, but the President often represents the People. He gives the impression he hates minorities and constantly goes on and on about how weak our nation is. That’s definitely not someone I’d like representing the People 🤷

God help us if Trump manages to get elected. I’ve seen some of his rallies. They are disgusting and terrifying. He incites violence (whether or not he does so intentionally is up for debate, but none can deny that his rallies are not the safest place to be) and his supporters appear to be mostly low-income, under-educated white men (not all of them; I know some of his supporters don’t meet that criteria).

I think his election would be a massive step backwards for the country and will deal the finishing blow to a Republican Party that is already crumbling thanks to his surge in support.
Shawn King posted some videos this week from a black man that attended a Trump rally as an observer (he wasn’t protesting). When Trump brought up Obama there were people yelling “F— that N-----!”. When Trump mentioned the wall, a young man yelled “F— the Be—rs!”. I swear it looked like a white power rally and felt evil. I would be terrified of being in that crowd and I’m white. The man who made the video was eventually kicked out for being a “protester” (read: black man).

I am positive that Trump has seen the video because he would be stupid to not be following Shawn King as he has been on a very anti-Trump kick for a while now. Trump has said nothing to distance himself from the White Supremacists that seem very vocal about their support for him.

Please think rationally about this man before voting for him. He is by far the least Christian candidate I’ve ever seen run and that includes Bernie!!

I find Obama and Clinton’s “pro-choice” position way more scarier; and much harsher on minorities.

His rallies are peaceful up to the point that the disrupters disrupt. Imagine yourself at a prolife rally next to the Harvard campus. What do you think would happen? Imagine just trying to be a reporter at a left wing U of Mo rally. We know how that turned out.

But we do understand how some see low-income, under-educated white men. But I don’t share the same bias. If I ran my car off the road in a life-threatening snowstorm and I could call a well-off Harvard PhD or a low-income, under-educated white man for help, I would call the latter without a moment’s hesitation.

It helps to know some of them before judging the whole bunch. I know a lot of them, and most of them will be a thousand years out of purgatory before I am.

I’ll believe this when I see it on national TV. Haven’t yet, though.

And I’ll want to see the whole sequence of events, and with very clear audio.

Possibly judging Trump’s soul is beyond the acknowledged pay grade of some.

I’m going to add this speculation. If Trump plays it right, he’ll get a black male vote beyond what anyone even imagined possible. Possibly as many black females will follow, but not necessarily.

cnn.com/2016/03/16/politics/latino-voters-naturalization-trump/index.html
Figures from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services show a 14.5% jump in naturalization applications in June-December of 2015 compared with the same six months in the previous year. Federal data does not break down those applications by race, but grass-roots organizations, like the Florida Immigrant Coalition, say their naturalization drives across their swing state are filled primarily by Latinos.
“They feel very unsafe with his words,” said Florida Immigrant Coalition spokesman Ivan Parra. “They want to be respected. For them, it is an emergency.”
Parra was one of the lawyers weaving through people from table to table in a donated space at a mall in Lauderhill, Florida. The event opened at 10 a.m., but the line had begun to form at 5 a.m., said Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness. At least 50 people showed up without appointments, hoping to begin filing paperwork.
Latinos see Trump as hurting GOP brand
Holness said in the 40 years he’s lived in Florida, he’s never seen this many residents filing for citizenship. Naturalization advocates say applications typically spike in election years, but this year has been extraordinary.
“Trump’s tone is getting people scared. Though he’s often saying ‘illegal,’ the legal people who’ve been here don’t feel secure either. They could be next. So for one, they want to protect themselves so they don’t get thrown out for any reason. Two, they want to make sure they’re engaged to the extent that they can contribute to insuring that Trump’s not the person,” he said.
Just to clarify. it is possible to be a permanent US resident, without becoming a US citizen. US residents do not have the same rights as citizens, one specifically they cannot vote.

Well here’s my view.
I think that Faithful pro-life Christians have an obligation to vote for the most pro-life/pro family candidate.
As of right now that is not Trump. he says he’s pro life so we’ll take him at his word.
However, if Trump is the nominee, I will vote for him before I would Hillary or Sanders.
However, if Hillary gets indicted and they put a Pro-life Dem in there(won’t happen btw) I would vote that person.

I never support populists, they have demagogic tendencies.

Harry Truman was nothing if not a populist. And he was crude in his speech at times and threatened to punch a music critic in the nose for criticizing his daughter’s piano playing. Probably was not the only time he said that sort of thing. He wasn’t fond of M.L. King, now sainted by everyone, but who had his own feet of clay despite his virtues, and Truman knew it. I recall Truman’s remark when someone was praising King by saying he won the Nobel Prize. “Well, I didn’t give it to him” responded Truman.

With all due respect, I sometimes think we have been so incessantly schooled in political correctness that we mistake the etiquette of the elites for character. And I think, for the most part, we don’t even realize it.

Why is it politically correct to be wary of populism? I thought it was a bedrock conservative principle.

Perhaps I don’t know enough about Harry Truman (what I do know I like, except perhaps for his origins as a mouthpiece of a Kansas City political boss) but to me Trump and the movement he has built is more evocative of the last few election cycle’s populist or quasi-populist quixotic “alternative candidates” such as Ross Perot and Ron Paul, and I hope he ends up as close to being elected as they did.

P.S. I hope you know that I value your opinion and agree with it much more often than not!

I would vote for Harry Truman; I don’t think I can vote for Trump. Truman as a man, personally, morally, ideologically, totally different from Trump. I hope we don’t get so casual about dismissing political correctness that we give the green light to moral corruption under our new ‘politically incorrect’ ‘whatever goes’ banner. Historically this has lead to very bad things.

What about the Dems platform that stands for abortion? We not only elect a president, we also get what his/her party stands for in the bargain.

And let’s not be fooled into thinking that Trump stands for conservative or even Republican values or virtues. This is why the National Review is so opposed to him.

It pains me to disagree with my dear friend Ridgerunner but I feel like Trump has much more in common with Cesar Chavez than Harry Truman.

Yes, to me it feels like the moral relativism and decay that has rotted out the core of the left is now taking root and taking over the right.

Do you mean Hugo Chavez of Venezuela?

Many in Europe see him similar to Silvio Berlusconi of Italy. There is even a new term “Trumpusconi”.

There are different ideas about what “populism” is. To elites, it’s a dirty word, bespeaking some authoritarian personality throwing coins to howling hordes of the unwashed, to induce them to smash the imported tea sets of their 'betters".

Another view of it is to actually attempt to better the conditions of ordinary people, and the more ordinary the better, regardless whether they have good manners or educations, and to actively engage and enlist such people politically. With this view, I have no problem.

In the interests of full disclosure, my parents greatly admired Harry Truman and spoke well of him all their lives, despite his often crude expressions and blunt ways. As a Missourian, raised in the light of that point of view, I might be too quick to appreciate such characters.

What context makes “f that n----” okay? The national news is in love with Trump since he brings in the advertising. I don’t expect them to play it on the air. I’m thankful there are people like Shawn King out there that are willing to shine a light on this. He receives many death threats.

I’m judging him based on what he is saying. At the very best he is a poor witness to Christianity.
