No, people don’t like him more because of these embarrassing episodes. We do, however, realize people go to bars and tell foolhardy jokes especially when they are young.

I always go back to the example of David who committed the sins of adultery and murderer. God can use all sorts of people for his purposes. We are not electing a secular pope.
David was sorrowful and repented of his sins. Trump only a few months ago said he never felt the need to ask God for forgiveness.

Also, he didn’t tell fool hearted jokes in a bar with his friends after a few rounds. He said them sober on the radio with people listening.

So democracy, or rather the American democratic republic, is not what it claims to be?
I…don’t think that’s what I said.
Not trusting this generation of politicians is not the same as not trusting democracy.

So, what shall I do if it comes down to Trump versus Hillary? Shall I overlook the personal defects of Trump and vote for him as he said he is pro-life and that he can work with Putin, or shall I vote for Hillary and thereby guarantee the murder of more and more millions of innocent pre-born children? And it is not like Hillary and Bill don’t have personal defects also. Trump might have personal defects, but he does seem to have a pretty decent family life, at least from the many family pictures and news reports I have seen.

So you don’t trust what he says. Do you trust any politician?
No, not really. But I can look at what they have said and done in the past, and see if what they say they will do in the future is consistent with that. We know that Hillary is pro-choice. She is not as pro-choice as Sanders, but I know that the differences between them are lost on most here. Based on his past actions and consistent statements, I am pretty confident that Trump is also pro-choice, and saying he is pro-life because he knows he has to - for now. So they are about the same on the issue, to me.

Here’s the difference:
Trump says he is pro-life and runs on that.
Hillary says she is pro-choice and runs on that.
Hillary guarantees you a pro-abortion position.

But in the end you are voting for people who you don’t trust?
It seems to me that you misunderstand the way our democracy is constructed. We hope we can trust politicians, but the system does not require trust. We vote them in or out at regular intervals so we don’t have to trust them. If they are not doing what we want, vote them out. Monarchies and dictatorships, by contrast, are based on trust. Once the dictator is installed the populace has to trust he does a good job. If he does not, there is no regular, non-violent way to change governments. In the US, we have had 43 changes of power based on the votes of the people. We want to trust, hope to trust, but the system is designed so that we don’t need to trust.

I think your best case with Trump is an indifferent position. Given the current state of the law that is the same as a pro-choice position. If you think that its worth ignoring every other issue on the hope of getting an indifferent position on this one issue, that is your prerogative, I suppose.

You have no proof that “your best case with Trump is an indifferent position.” That is just your opinion. Trump says he is pro-life. Still, an indifferent position, although still wrong, is morally better than the rabidly feminist pro-abortion position of Hillary.

I didn’t say I had “proof”, I said “I think.” You are free to think differently, but I am wondering why you do. I have pointed out my reasons for thinking as I do - Trump’s longstanding statements and past actions. I see no evidence on the other side of the ledger, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to your opinion.

Les see, Trump, Cruz or Hillary.

Is this the most pathetic presidential election you’ve ever seen ?

Jim

Hillary’s pro-choice. No candidate is pro-abortion or they’d want every pregnancy to end in abortion instead of birth, and I’m sure no candidate in either party wants that.

Maybe I’ve missed it. Why is no one talking about Trump’s stance on religious freedom? While Cruz talks about - and even boasts - of his Christianity, he’s said nothing about the continuous onslaught against people of faith. The Donald has clearly stated that he feels everyone has the right to their faith without limits.

Hillary makes noises but we all know she will bow to the atheists and progressives who turn a blind eye to those decimating the ranks of religions other than Islam throughout the world.

It’s the followers of Trump I find scary, not Trump himself.
Yes … and no. I think the majority of Trump’s supporters are pretty silent, and I think it would be huge mistake to automatically assume that their rationale for supporting him is represented by the minority of Trump-supporters who are vocal (often unbelievably vocal) about it.

But if you’d make your comment about just the Trump-supporters that we hear from, then I’d definitely agree that they can be scary.
