Well, any responsible gun owner will tell you that the couple did at least two things wrong:

1. A person never aims a gun at something he or she is not going to shoot.
2. A person never puts his or her finger inside a trigger guard until he or she is going to shoot.

I thought pointing a gun at someone was assault but I guess laws are different in Missouri.

BUT the COUPLE. Why is there not report of them defending themselves by saying that they heard the crowd was calling for the cops to be killed? They have a lawyer. The lawyer didn’t mention that.

You know, the protests were as to police brutality, specifically as to the death of George Floyd. The looting happened really as some opportunists took advantage of the street protests to commit larceny.

No. Self-defense is the most misunderstood concept in law. A major tenet of self-defense is running away. Some guy in IN got six years in jail for shooting at a carjacker driving his car away.

It is illegal and immoral to set a spring gun and it is also illegal and immoral to point a firearm at someone who is walking down the street yelling.

Wrong, wrong wrong. “Stand your ground” means a person does not have to retreat if in his or her own home (there is a tenet in self-defense law about the ability to flee) or when a person is confronted with an imminent danger of serious bodily harm. Then a person can use means of serious harm to effect self-defense.

That’s not what was happening with the couple. I think the male is a lawyer – he should know better.

It strains credulity that these two yahoos decided to confront a mob shouting death to the cops or whatever. But, they weren’t very smart anyway. All the mob had to do was attack the woman from the direction of the husband, with her between the mob and the husband, , so he couldn’t shoot, disarm her, use her as a shield, and kill him.

Would have been much better to barricade inside and prepare to repel boarders. That’s if they they thought the crowd was dangerous. Obviously they didn’t.

Castle law applies if they were in danger of bodily harm. They were not. They were threatening the crowd by pointing weapons at them. Class. D. Felony.

But, luckily for them, they will use their white privilege and status as lawyers to get off without repercussions.

I’ve seen some historians argue that Trump’s presidency is a simple racist backlash against Obama.

So, these “historians” Think that a significant number of people who voted for Obama suddenly became racists and voted for Trump?

As soon as it was shown the presidency was accessible to a black man, the racists needed to show that the presidency was just as accessible to a low white man. Doing so would both lower the dignity of the presidency (and therefore Obama’s achievements) and let the racists feel that they were still superior because “one of their own” was just as capable of being president.

I’m sure there is a poll that asked about this and got millions of affirmatives. If not, this historian accusation is, by definition, racist.
