Yes, they deserve each other. (is it my imagination or does Christie look incredibly uncomfortable, unhappy and guilty in his post Trump conversion photos) But since Trump has the nomination and quite possibly the White House, I am glad that mainstream, moderate Republicans are getting involved. The team Trump assembles will be critical. Keep your friends close, your enemies closer.I agree. Those of us who live in New York and New Jersey have been disappointed with Christie for quite some time, and not only due to the infamous George Washington Bridge scandal. His outspokenness has its appeal, I suppose, but he can also be brash and arrogant as well as, at times, warm and caring about the people he serves. As far as I am concerned, he and Trump are two peas in a pod and deserve each other.
Super Tuesday does not look good for either Cruz or Rubio. I suspect Cruz will do better of the two, winning Texas and making strong showings throughout the South - he could pull ahead as the last standing challenger to Trump. Rubio must win 3-5 states on Tuesday to be a serious contender for the nomination, and that is not in the cards. He trails Trump by 10% or more in every state, including Florida (3/15). All this frantic Romneyesque establishment pressure behind him may actually be hurting him. Cruz can’t win beyond the South, handful of Midwest evangelical states, very conservative base. He got 15% of the nonEvangelical vote in SC; imagine him against Hillary in Florida, Ohio, New York, California. Trump is it, folks.
We also need to remember that a lot of this populist white rage in the South (and elsewhere) is a direct result of Obama - Kim Davis, taking down the Confederate Flag, gay marriage decision, Obamacare. Payback is a b… (and if you think for a minute these folks will vote for Rubio you are nuts) Some people just don’t know when to stop, when to compromise, give the other side room. Oh well. Too late now. I think the Northeast is just on board with the hometown hero, about as old-time NE GOP establishment as it comes…
I am not going to watch the results on Tuesday night - will do a Fellini movie - Amarcord, 1973. Just as unhinged as Super Tuesday (Mussolini is in it), but much more intelligent, funny, and human. Wasn’t Rockefeller in office in 1973 anyway? I’ll be with y’all in spirit in front your TVs, tearing your hair out. Enjoy.
