I get it. Doesn’t matter if he’s exaggerating or accusing his enemies of corruption without proof (aka slander). Doesn’t matter if Trump’s home city is equally ‘rat-infested’. No one cares. Attacking a city like Baltimore or St Louis is just kicking a man when he’s down.

We should just lie down and take it when the president insults your home (or nearby it). Maybe even ask for some more. Why?

So does bearing false witness against someone … like accusing a person of killing your family being a drunk driver - when it was merely a tragic accident …disqualify a person as a candidate for dog catcher ??.. asking for a friend …

How about plagiarism and lying? … How about the implicit racism where one changes their accent and pronunciation when addressing minority audiences among other racist comments and actions?

Because we already know that publicly performing actions and voting for [immoral] laws that directly contradict a person’s professed and “actively practiced” faith and morals and Church teachings - as sincerely self described … does not disqualify candidates for some people …

I’ve had plenty of insults about my home town on here, so…

But poor governance is poor governance. Why should we pretend it’s otherwise. The first step toward remediation is admitting the problem.

Not from me. I love all of America. And if I were president I certainly wouldn’t single out certain regions or municipalities for harsh correction. Just to stick your thumb in a congressman’s eye - one who replied by inviting him to let him show him around the town, which i thought was surprisingly conciliatory.

You’re right but he’s criticized successful companies like Amazon.

That Bezos is successful with his Wapo is exactly why he criticizes him.

I’m not sure how successful WAPO is on its own. But I also don’t know that’s the only reason why Trump has problems with Amazon.

It sounds like you live nearby Baltimore. If so, what do you think about how it’s run? Do you think all its citizens take derogatory words about about the city personally? Do some see that maybe those words are directed toward its leaders, not the common man?

At what point can one say something like “City X is a dump”? I’ve heard such things my whole life about various places, and not just US cities.

Eventually things can change. If I lived in Baltimore I wouldn’t mind it being called out, in the hope that it could bring new leadership. In fact one of my biggest concerns would be fellow citizens who can’t handle harsh remarks about the state of the city - too many of them and I’d fear that change would never come.

I actually live in New Jersey. I grew up roughly halfway between Washington DC and Baltimore, but haven’t lived there in ages. When I did live in that area, I preferred DC to Baltimore and know the former a lot better than the latter. But I still didn’t take kindly to those tweets. Part of it is just the principle that he would target all this abuse to an American city - doesn’t he realize he’s the president of the United States and therefore these are his constituents he’s insulting?

Many people on these boards have tried to justify those comments as if they were him showing ‘tough love’ for Baltimore, which I think is ridiculous as it was happening in the middle of a feud between him and Elijah Cummings, and therefore he just wanted to be as hurtful as possible. I don’t see any reason to believe he was spewing this stuff out of a place of compassion (an emotion he has shown little or no evidence of possessing). Not to mention, hurling serious accusations without proof is not normally seen as compassionate. He was just rage-tweeting, as is his wont.

The fact that few people outside of Baltimore expressed outrage about this episode is more evidence to me that he is deforming our sense of what’s normal, what’s good and proper and what is not, in our political discourse. We have adapted to his monstrous personality, and excused its excesses, he has not adapted to us, and I think that’s dangerous.

Withdrawing after winning one primary? That is, by my estimation, not running, and leaves no argument that he could not win his party’s nomination. That is blind speculation. Winning New Hampshire does not doom a candidate.

“With America’s sons in the fields far away, with America’s future under challenge right here at home, with our hopes and the world’s hopes for peace in the balance every day, I do not believe that I should devote an hour or a day of my time to any personal partisan causes or to any duties other than the awesome duties of this office—the presidency of your country. Accordingly, I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President.”

This, of course assumes that one values one’s country over personal political ambition. For us, Trump is running again.

What tye of backwards logic is this? If he wasn’t running for reelection at the time of the primary then why did he apply to have his name in the new Hampshire primary or how did his name get on the democratic primary ticket?

Of course he does.

I doubt it. More likely it started with the ten reporters Bezos engaged to do nothing during the eleciton but look for dirt on Trump and to admit it publicly.

There are always people looking for dirt on presidential candidates. Most of them can handle it without insults and tweetstorms.

I’m late into this discussion, but I have to remind people national elections are more than electing presidents, often times important propositions effecting your immediate local community as well as local seats are involved. So, you should still vote even if either presidential nominee doesn’t appeal to you. Also, be sure to vote in midterms as well.

As I age, more and more do I look to State and Local as being the primary reason I vote. I, personally, won’t vote for Trump. It depends on whether I will vote for Biden, such as having a strong platform. I did not vote for Hillary in the last election, she had no platform. Regardless, I will still vote State and Local. I’m very satisfied with my state and local community.

Well, dislike the man if it pleases you for that reason or anyt of the other personality objections people have. I find it refreshing myself. I remember my parents praise for Harry Truman, and Trump reminds me of him. He said what he thought and people resented him for it then just like they do Trump now. Elites hated him. Same now.

I really don’t understand Catholics who would vote for abortion, and especially for personality reasons. I really don’t.
