Well, I went bust twice in my life and haven’t done too badly since. If a man takes no chances in life, he’s not likely to accomplish much. And Trump himself didn’t actually go “bust” even once. If I’m not terribly mistaken a couple of his companies (of which he has a number) took Chapter 11. Chapter 11 is not “going bust”. Wouldn’t hurt to read up on that.

Would be nice to kn ow the actual history of the Trump business rather than just assuming. But Trump has not been exaclty forthcoming.

Who truly takes the time to look online at texts of speeches by Presidents given to the Boy Scouts just to back up some obvious thought they don’t like Trump’s speech.

Good grief; who has time for this and who cares enough to do so? Worse things have happened for goodness sake.

I’m saying that it reasonable to believe that the Boy Scouts are telling the truth. For the skeptical, however, I think it is on them to do the research before saying the Scouts are an unreliable source of information. It is not impossible to do that research. Many texts are available and many Scouts who have spent a lifetime going to these events are out there.

I mean really: Saying that maybe the Boy Scouts are not being honest? I say put up or shut up to that! Don’t make a back-handed attack at the reputation of the Scouts and act as if you’ve raised an innocent objection to an unsupported premise.

If you look online, there are actually a lot of texts available.

If you mean to imply that one of the past Presidents might have gone to a Jamboree and gone on a tear like Mr. Trump did and that both the press and the Boy Scouts used to cover up for it, you’d have to find a Scout to attest to it. So far, however, not a single one has done so.

If the Scouts say that they’ve never been subjected to anything like this, I’d tend to believe the Scouts. They are honest, and not a “fake news” source.

I doubt you’ll find any scouts who heard the presidential address in, say, 1939, or what any of them said about it at the time. Some probably cheered, as some did for Trump, and some who hated Roosevelt probably didn’t.

Sorry. I’ve gotten tired of the President flouting conventions and then essentially saying, “So what? So shoot me.” He really does seem to believe he could get away with murder and his faithful would still follow him like puppies. Actually, no–he really does seem to believe that his followers *eat this nonsense up! He seems to think they LOVE him for it!! *

Who could really blame him if he does? Is he wrong?

They also really like that he’s pusing our NATO allies to man up and start investing at levels they’ve promised. Stronger allies will mean the US doesn’t have to carry the burden alone of being the world’s policeman.

It is sad that Trump supporters have the low expectation of mere not-Obama. It is sad that they don’t demand more even at the most minimal level of executive decorum and competence.

His supporters expect him to deliver results, not just smile and look pretty.

Obama deported quite a few, including citizens who were born here. As for our allies, how is it making progress when you insult their leaders and divulge secrets to Russia? And what exactly do you mean by wanting countries like Germany “to carry their weight”? You really want them to rebuild their army. They could, you know.

I should have clarified that I don’t find most of his behavior offensive, either. I grew up in a household that much admired Harry Truman. My parents positively like the man, not despite his often confrontational and sometimes vulgar ways, but because of them. They enjoyed seeing the effete elites with all their pretenses of propriety taken down a peg.

And I’m not sure either of the things you mention equal incompetence. So he’s overreaching. So what? Reagan threatened SDI without having the slightest idea how it could be implemented. But it still took the Russians aback.

It does not seem to me the bigwigs of the Boy Scouts needed to apologize for Trump. Are these young men so sensitive and sheltered that they’re not to be exposed to American politics?

And actually, Trump didn’t talk about things he was “trying to do” to women. The big nothing tape was him joking about the nature of groupies. Vulgar language, to be sure, but likely the truth. I have heard female doctors and attorneys say a lot worse and with a lot less justification or humor.

It’s pervasive in this society, and anybody who claims it isn’t, is either sheltered beyond belief or improvising.

Well, in one of his Chapter 11s, Deutschebank tried to seize some of his very valuable assets during a recession. He filed Ch. 11 to back them off. Afterwards, Deutschebank still loaned him money on new projects.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. The point is how we ought to hate Trump for trivial reasons. That’s the real point of all this nonsense about a speech to the boy scouts.

What you’re missing is that Harry Truman was as hated as Trump and for some of the same reasons.
