Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
If Christ didn’t trust Himself to anyone, why should we?

Trust is not so black and white as you seem to be making it out to be.

When I go through an intersection in my car when the light is green, I trust that the car traveling cross-traffic from me will stop when his light says red. Do I know it’s possible he may not, sure. Still, I trust that he will, or I would not go through the intersection.

In marriage, trust is absolutely essential to the bond between husband and wife. But at the same time, we always know it’s possible for the spouse to let us down in a small way or a very big way. Yet still, we trust that they will do what they have promised to do by entering into the marriage covenant.

Trust in God is an absolute trust. It is a complete abandonment to God taking care of you and your adherence to what God has promised and revealed to his creatures.

Placing our trust in people is never a sure thing, yet still we do it, and it’s a reasonable thing to do when done with wisdom and prudence.

And men didn’t write it? And then, if it is God breathed, how do you know?

Agathon:
Switch trust with love and I will agree.
You can’t love your spouse without trusting him/her.
Not true. I can love people without leaning on them.

Like you said, where senses fail, only faith suffices. Faith in God not in men.

Not true. I can love people without leaning on them.
In marriage, your spouse is supposed to be helping you get to Heaven, and you the same for them. I think the same goes for friendship too. If you can’t even trust they’ll at least try to help you with that, you have no business marrying or having friends.

That’s not the help that I mean. Yes, a spouse cannot replace nor do a better job than God, but Christianity is not just you and God. We are all runners in the same race to the same goal. Do you really think a spouse or friend can do nothing to assist you, whether it’s reminding you to pray a rosary with him/her daily, or to wake up on Sundays for Mass?

We are called to be the Communion of Saints, the Body of Christ.

Trust is therefore crucial in a healthy functioning Body of Christ. We are all responsible for and called to that task.

If one cannot place trust in their family friends fellow parishioners clergy , the issue and question to be asked is why not? What’s ill in the field hospital. What can we do about it.

The answer is not

‘Let’s trust noone’

Think of those Jesus loved and trusted.

Gospel of John talks about Jesus not losing one soul God the Father has entrusted to Him

But we are going to be judged on how we individually have competed in the race.
Yes. And how we helped others. And the prayers others have said for us. We help each other. We’re all connected.

Still ultimately, the only thing you take to heaven with you is your good deeds.

No. For example, I, as someone who has, consecrated myself to Mary, have relinquished all my good works to her for her use, and not my own merit. But that’s not the issue. What good are our works if we, during the race, would slap away hands trying to help us get back up after we trip, and vice versa?

Oh I hope not! I don’t merit Heaven. I want to go to God having done many good deeds, like presents, but to enter I need His Mercy. And prayers - so many prayers! I hope people remember me in Masses and prayers, before and after my death.
