Trust No Man (Advice Worthy of Acceptance)

I take the passage to mean that the one who trusts people with their salvation is wrong. Of course we should trust God first and foremost. He is Creator, Savior and Sanctifier.

What I’m asking you, and I’m sorry to make you have to answer again but I’m trying to understand, but what I’m asking you is this: do you believe it’s wrong to trust other people to be honest, caring, merciful and generally well meaning?

You are trying to be the best Christian you can be and let it show in the fruit you bear. Do you trust others to do the same?
 
I don’t understand. The Lord says to trust no one and you take it literally. Christ Himself says to pluck your eye out if it causes you to sin, and you do not. It is an asinine interpretation, though yes. But how can you call that asinine and the other not?
 
“Love thy neighbor as thyself” would suggest yes. Surely you want your dear ones to be saved. Surely they want the same for you.
 
I do not. I do not trust man as I do God. But I see the efforts and prayers of those around me to help me get closer and to even trust God more and more. Most especially by my godmother’s example.

Would you trust a priest’s interpretation of this quote? Would you consider talking to your parish priests or one of the priests here?

I think I’ve been harsh. I stand by the gist of what I say. While you’re right, we are not to trust people like we ought to with God, we cannot go through life trusting no one. I don’t know what has happened to you to foster such distrust in others, but I was in a similar boat. Without going into details, I became overly trusting to someone who utterly crushed it and wounded me greatly. This person was a textbook sociopath who played me and others like fiddles. It made me bitter and more closed than I already was. It took me years to get out of that state, and I don’t know if I’m fully out of it yet. I cannot imagine my life had I not. Really. If I didn’t try to open up and trust others, I would never been baptized, because I would have never selected a sponsor, much less two godparents. I can’t imagine life without either of them.

I can’t imagine this is a motto God wants you to live by. It is choking. You don’t have to open up all at once, but I pray that you can take that first step.

Absolutely. But we can help them all we can by our prayers and sacrifices. I’m sure that, for many souls, the difference between Heaven and Purgatory or Purgatory and Hell has been the prayers of others.

The difference between Heaven and Hell depends on one’s response to God’s grace. Not even the merits of Christ can help an obstinate sinner who sets himself against God.
 
When you’re all knowing you don’t have faith. Isn’t that the point of being all-knowing?

So you say. As I said, that kind of thinking is dangerous. If I did what you suggest, I would have never been baptized and brought into the body of Christ. No sponsor(s) means no baptism. No subsequent confirmation, Eucharist, or confessions. All that grace, gone. Do you see the danger in that?
