hello all you prayer warriors! I cannot thank you enough.
I have put off writing for a few days since things were changing a bit, and also due to pain.

I finished the radiation last Thursday and don’t think I could have done another day. Unfortunately the effects continue and they say things will wear off over weeks. I’ve been to cancer survivors boards like this one and seen people complaining about the side effects 9 months after radiation - uh-oh! Day at a time - right.

Today I am in quite a bit of pain,and it makes me pray for those who suffered from this hundreds of years ago…I think prayer transcends time, right?

And yet, I have more hope, and I have had hours here or there when I was virtually pain free and it was great! I felt like prayers are working and healing is possible and that dying at 48 is not written in stone - in fact, sometimes I think about total cancer-free recovery - anything is possible, right?

I joined some survivors groups and found some folks with similar cases (anal cancer is actually a rare cancer, helps to find people in the know on this one) One person had the same thing - anal tumor and metastasized to the liver. her 6 week treatment killed the anal part, and there are some new chemo drugs she takes in pill form that have shrunk the liver tumors and she’s a couple years since diagnosis day. There’s some hope.

I am officially in my 4 “recovery weeks” after which we’ll get some catscans and/or petscans and see where things stand.

I’ll post a photo of the bell ringing if I figure out the best way

But somehow, yesterday I had a morning bowel movement, much like the rest of the world. I couldn’t believe it. And today shows me it was not a one-day fluke. Maybe that bad side effect is on it’s way out?!

Hello Tim!

I too pray for your speedy recovery. I pray that Our Lord gives you understanding of life itself, and that you know that the Father’s love for you is the same as his love for his Son. I pray that the hearts of your family turn together and toward Him, in whom life is eternal. I pray that you believe this reality even as you recover, because eventually in your old age you will face your earthly mortality once again.

My name is Tim, too. I pray that I may receive the grace to meet you in heaven, someday, as I don’t think I will get the chance to meet you down here. We will have to form a “Tim” club, where we will both get the opportunity to meet Tim Staples, and Paul’s beloved companion also. If I get there before you I’ll be waiting to greet you on behalf of the CA Forum family, if God allows. I am not joking.

Our lives are precious Tim, but only because God chose to create us out of absolutely nothing, just as He has created so many in the centuries before us, so many who are alive now in Him. We are not created for a good life here, or to spend as much time as possible here, but for something far, far greater, and for all eternity. This is my reality, your reality, your family’s reality; more real than the computer screen in front of our faces. It is life, and light, and love itself.
