Hey Everyone - Still alive and kicking. I’m on another round of chemo and trying to shrink the liver metastasis tumors even more. It’s no fun - but it’s gotta be done.

I thank you all for praying! My doc gave me her opinion last week that I would only last a year or two from now. I am trying to both accept that as a possibility AND, to disagree with that and look for other opinions and other treatments.

It is difficult to keep 2 opposing ideas in your mind, but didn’t some philosopher say that was a sign of intelligence? Or, it could just be “chemo brain” which is a term used to describe the confusion on someone getting chemo.

I’ll do another round of chemo in 5 weeks and then get another scan - we’ll be looking for more shrinkage. It’s likely I’ll again do a round of chemo wait five weeks (taking my family to Ireland just in case I’m sick next year) then a second round, then another scan. Then - apparently we wait…testing the cancer to see if it will come back with a vengeance, or lay around dormant for a while.

This is all I know now.

I think I’m going to start praying for all of you now!

Patron Saint of those with cancer

Saint Peregrine, (1260-1347) lived in Italy. Prior to his conversion, he persecuted the pope and mistreated a priest sent by the pope to minister to the people of the town. Peregrine went so far as to strike Father Benizi on the face. Father Benizi literally turned the other cheek. The look that the priest gave Peregrine was so compassionate and forgiving, that he repented of his former way of life, asked the priest’s forgiveness and turned his life around.

Peregrine became devoted to the Blessed Mother, who told him to join the Order of the Servites. He spent the rest of his life ministering to people in hospitals and prisons. Eventually, he developed a cancer on his leg. While praying the night before his scheduled surgery, Jesus came down from the crucifix and touched his wound. It was healed without any trace of the previous cancer.

Saint Peregrine is therefore, the patron saint of those with cancer.
