Update: March 7th, 2011 - as of 2 weeks ago, I am officially on a break from treatment. My doctor would not say I’m in remission, but she would say that my tumors have shrunk considerably due to the chemo we just did from August to February. And, there is a good chance that many of them (if not all) are dead cancer cells. 👍:D:)

I will get blood tested every 4 weeks, and catscans every 8 weeks and see what happens.

Here’s a brief story. I do not know the full meaning - A week or two back, and I’m pretty sure it was the anniversary of my “full” and final diagnosis of Feb 22nd, 2010 which was dismal - (one of the doctors gave me a year to live). I was getting into my car to go see my doc and a bunch of birds gathered across the street in, around and under a certain tree… happens every winter at this time. Anyway, for the first time in my life, I saw a pure white dove hanging out with dozens and dozens of crows and robins. I watched and I managed to quickly phone my daughter who took a few snapshots.

I grew up with the images of the Holy Spirit being a white dove…and,of course, the dove is a symbol of peace, but I was unsure how to take the meaning of this event.

It was a special day, ( It was Feb 22nd and I didn’t die) and I saw a very special bird. It hadn’t happened before or since.

For most of these 2 weeks I was very out of sorts - after a year of non-stop battling - I was suddenly, “on break” - BUT - I just got back from my annual retreat which had a great spiritual director and I just got a chance to slow down and sort things out. The truth seems to be just like it was on day one - make the most of every day. Try to love God and others the best I can.

Can this cancer turn around and kill me in no time? Yup, but all I really have is today.

I’m staying as positive as possible. As someone said already, cancer is not the end of the world and God willing, I’ll beat this and be around to raise my girls for years.

Max, you are in my prayers. I can offer, in addition to my prayers, some encouragement: In July, 2008, I was diagnosed at stage IV of an aggressive, inoperable, incurable and highly chemotherapy resistant cancer (Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma - NOS). It was too widespread for radiation. From my head to my pelvis, I had at least 54 malignant lymph nodes that had become tumors. I had cancer in my bone marrow. The prognosis is poor at any stage of this disease. I had, at most, a few months to live. After eight different chemotherapy drugs over four months, the cancer went into remission, but returned immediately after treatment, which made the prognosis even worse. Through the power of prayer (by CAF members) and the mercy of God, a miracle occurred and I have been in remission now for almost two years. My advice to you is simple, but difficult: abandon yourself to God’s divine providence. And, do not lose hope!
