TV: How do you watch TV?

satellite is off for the summer since the sports nut is working elsewhere, we don’t have cable so no local channels (i get news off the internet). It is blissful. Once in a while I look at TV listings in the paper and never see anything I care to watch. Even the sports nut listens to the Yankees over the internet. You learn to live with it. One of those things you have to accept in marriage. Go Tribe!

I would have a mutiny on my hands if I suggested we get rid of the TV. I watch very little, but the hubby and teens like it. Dh is a techno geek; even his computer can pick up TV stations and record programs. Talk about attachment. —KCT

Around 1983 to 1989 I didn’t have a TV at all.
If you live in Florida (like I did) there is no reason. So much you can do outside.
I got a lot more done.

The intent of TV is to change your priorities.
That is what advertising is all about. To change your mind to get you to buy something, try something, go somewhere, etc.

Without a TV, you make your own mind without that (name removed by moderator)ut.

But I got married. So here is the TV.

I like reality shows like “For Love or Money”.

You know, Christianity is like “For Love or Money”. When we get to heaven and throw our crowns at Jesus feet. Because we choose His Love over our rewards.

I wonder how the Lord sees us (like the main contestant on that show). “Hmmm. She is just after the reward. But Joe over there really loves me.” Or am I wrong about the parallel.

How else would I get EWTN. AM radio doesn’t comin to our Apt:(
We do everything we can not to channel surf. I try to stick to channels I know are a little more thatn half way decent and swicth between them when comercials are on. I used to think the T.V. Guide channal was safe but it is not:(

We have cable, because there’s not much other than junk on the local stations (except PBS- we like “Nova” and “BBC World News”). With cable, we at least get to watch the news stations, sports, EWTN, History and Discovery channels, plus Sci-Fi for my husband.

Does anyone else wish that we could pick/choose what channels we wanted (cafeteria cable? 😉 ) and maybe pay $1 per month, per channel? If we could do that, then our cable bill would only be about $10 per month.

You can get EWTN on the Internet just going to www.ewtn.com
Or get a Short Wave Radio and pick up the radio broadcasts there.

Here’s my typical night of watching TV lately:
  • 8PM: Bill O’Reilly
  • 9PM: A little bit of Hannity & Colmes
  • 9PMish: Daily Bible reading/meditation/Night prayers
  • Followed by reading.
  • 10:30ish: TV LAND and I fall asleep to that…

Hey!

I’m young (13), and I will occasionally watch the news (usually weather & sports if it has to do with the vikings) I like a few movies like Lion King & Anastasia, or Veggie Tales, or a few other Disney movies. I rarely watch any regular TV unless it is wheel of fortune (we have an antenna or “bunny ears”😃 ) or ice skating or olympics… just wondering does Leslie Sansone walk areobics or any exercise tapes count? I like to exercise daily though!😃

As a 15 year old female, I like a wide variety of things. Discovery Health documentaries on conjoined twins and things, news shows like 60 minutes and dateline, comedy like whose line is it anyways and snl, but im a sucker for sitcoms. The Nanny is my favorite!

Unfortunately, EWTN is not a non-subscription channel so I have to subscribe to cable to get it.

If it were up to me, I’d block all the other channels and keep my TV on EWTN all day long.

Blessings…

I do not understand why more people don’t seem to watch EWTN over the Internet? Only if their computer is not fast enough or the service is not from the DSL or the Cable Co.
Wouldn’t be worth the extra money to change from dial up and go to a faster form of Internet service and get your EWTN AND cancel the secular TV all at the same time.

For some reason I have never watched very much TV. I prefered to read in high school instead of watching TV, hmmm maybe that was why I was not the coolest kid:). Anyways the only channels i do watch is Fox News, History channel, EWTN, ESPN and ABC for college football.

I have heard that some people want Mel Gibson to pay for a TraditionalCatholicTVnetwork. I can just imagine it. That be great with 24 hours a day with shows by Fr.Gruner, Bp.Fellay, John Vennari, Marian Horvat, and et cetera.

If that was the case, maybe we can have some good sitcoms, documentaries, drama and science fiction without all the sensless violence and sexaully suggestive material, and OH the commericals! That’s another story!

Any other word on this?

I voted antenna and DVD/VHS. It is mostly the latter. During the week, our children watch no more than 1 hour of TV a day, and only shows that my wife and I choose for them to watch. We’re a bit more generous Saturday morning, but there are some cartoons that I prohibit (i.e., Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh). The children hardly watch any TV at all on Sunday, and many week days they don’t watch any at all.

My habits are somewhat different. There are a handful of TV shows I watch (Lost, CSI:, Navy NCIS, sometimes Cold Case, sometimes The Simpsons, usually in syndication).

Usually when the TV is on, we’re watching a DVD or VHS I’ve rented from Blockbuster. Again, my wife and I carefully screen what our children watch, to the point of not letting them watch a movie that one of us hasn’t already seen.

Instead of TV during the week, we play games, read books, do our homework, et cetera.

I watch tv…and make no apologies for it…there are a lot of good shows…and yes…some pretty bad ones( )
But I do have the ability to turn the chanel…

Some of the things I watch are the news

EWTN

Some of the reality shows and no not all of them are bad.

Law and Order…Touched by an Angel…

Sometimes Dr Phil or Oprah (when theyre’ not too weird)

Food chanel …
Animal planet…

I started to chart my TV watching and wow has it cut down. I watch about 10 minutes in the morning to catch the news and traffic while I eat. Then I sometimes watch a game with the kids. That’s about it. The kids watch veggie tales on DVD and some Noggin. Not too much though.

Now my wife watches those terribly boring DIY channels, but she does get good scrapbooking ideas. But I’m with Groucho when it comes to DIY or those “While you were out we repainted your ktichen” shows.

Cable - EWTN! ok, a little food network now and then (hey, I’ve learned a lot and lost weight!), and some news when I can stomach it.

Sorry, but without a TV, it’s pretty difficult to watch…

BASEBALL!
True, but I have found that baseball is probably the easiest sport to follow listening on the radio, which frees me up to mow the lawn, play with the children, etc. Plus, its on during the summer which is the best time to be outside.

Now football…that is another matter. 😉
