I am not so sure why people are so quick to jump on the left for this one? I mean I get it, its a knee juerk reaction all the pundits on fox news tell you to do but really what evidence is there that the left is behind this? I think there is just as strong a possibility that Romney, Perry, or any other Republican nominee is behind this.

It could be one of the other GOP candidates, but, as I said before, I think it is likely Rove or some other establishment Republican apparatchik. Very little chance its anyone on the left. The left has no reason to attack Cain–they would LOVE to run against Cain. This is the GOP trying to regain control of a nomination process that is not going according to the script.

If you were going to unleash dirt on a fellow repub wouldn’t you want a liberal news source to do it? you kill 2 birds with one stone: 1. Take a potshot at a surging Cain 2. Incite the right to engage in a “we are the victim of liberal media” frenzy that will eventually lead to direct attacks on democrats and Obama.

Two women accused Cain of sexually harrassing them. Whether or not the accuastions are true can be determined in court if they choose to to press charges.

The paranoia of some people on this forum is evident in the fact that everyone from Barack Obama to the mysterous colltively conscious spirit known as “the Left” to the Clintons have been blamed for this. Rush Limbaugh has apparently blamed it on the fact that Cain is black, and that ‘the Left’ are trying to paint him as a black stereotype, forgetting, of course, that nobody is painting anyone; two women, real people, accused Cain of sexually harassing them.

Now, rather than blaming the various boogeymen, if someone objects to the accusations being made, perhaps they could try to contact the individuals who made the accusation, and inquire as to why they made the accusations. Hire a private detective if you’d like. Sue the media networks to release their names under the Freedom of Information Act. I don’t know, do whatever; some of the reactions here just don’t seem that rational though.

Politico started out as a middle of the road site. However over the years has leaned more left of center. It’s blogs and many articles are very left leaning.

Having said that, my guess is one of the other Republican campaigns (either Bachmann’s or Perry’s) tipped them off. Romney needs Cain in the race so it wasn’t his campaign.

Mike Huckabee, who went through a similar thing, says he is it almost “certain” this was a leak not by the Left but by one of the GOP campaigns.

But Cain doesn’t pull Romney support. He pulls from the Bachmann/Perry/not-Romney support. There was a chart of 538 that showed that as Perry declined and Cain rose in the polls; Romney stayed pretty constant. It would be to Romney’s advantage if Cain stayed strong and split the not-Romney vote so Romney can win a plurality.

Whoeer it comes from, it is american politics at its worst. Vague scurrilous reports on scandal only have the effect of driving the best people out of politics in the first place to where the scum rises to the top.

Just as much as the government does not belong in the bedrooms of the people, the people do not really belong in the bedrooms of the government in the vast majority of cases. Until Americas recognize that fact, they will continue to get the kind of politicians that they deserve.

I agree with you that Perry is done. Totally.

Simply waiting for somebody to dig up “proof” on his alleged homosexuality (which has always been whispered and talked about in Texas but never proven----and never discussed out of the Big State). Not saying he is actually gay, either.
NOT wishing anything bad on the guy, but if those rumors are actually PROVEN true or at least enough circumstancial evidence is dug up, he’s basically finished.

i hate dirty politics. i didn’t like watching what they did to clarence thomas and i surely hope they will not go after herman cain like they did thomas. i saw part of an interview tonight with greta van susteren and herman cain. there will probably be more details tomorrow. i am sure they will turn up the heat because he is the frontrunner. hope he can stick it out. it will get ugly before the fall 2012 election.

It is very possible that this issue will end up helping Cain, as he gains the sympathy vote for such baseless and low attacks against his person. Many people are getting sick of the dirty laundry type of politics, and attacks based on such weak evidence as this are due to a backfire.

In which case, Rove would end up being a genius in the unlikely event that he was behind this attack, if that is what he is counting on.

Thomas has served admirably in the years since that time.The shameless attack against his person that preceded his confirmation to the position demonstrated the complete lack of a soul of his attackers.
