Spencer is IMO a professional Muslim hater who, unfortunately, finds willing listeners among the fearful. I am personally contemptuous of anyone who thinks so little of his own civilization and the might of his armies that he could believe that the Muslims could ever prevail in battle or in any other way.

I am wary of any country that puts its faith it the might of its armies, and even more of anyone who isn’t suspicious of said army.

I think the armies of Western Europe can put paid to any army flying green banners. 😃

From their perspective sure. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about treating it as we (as Christians) should.

To continue practicing what one believes is a matter of conviction and resolution.

Purposely insulting someone else’s belief in retaliation is a matter of foolish pride (a sin, no?)

Maybe I’ve been misinterpreting the bible as I’ve been reading it since I decided to convert. I’ve got a long way to go but I’ve read the gospels over and over again to make sure that I’m really “getting” what Jesus was all about. The way I understand it, continuing to believe in God and worshiping in the way Jesus laid out for us would be good. I’m pretty sure that didn’t include burning books or insulting another’s faith even if we disagree with it. On the contrary it involved love and prayer for that person. I also understand that it’s not meant to be easy.

It’s easy as an American Christian to consider the Muslim faith as evil and to automatically mock their beliefs and point the finger at them, ignorance usually is. It’s a lot harder to acknowledge that the extremists are not the majority. It’s a It’s a lot harder to pray for them. What makes that even harder is that the more violent they are, the more they need our prayers. Just as much if not more so than their victims. Isn’t that what Jesus taught? That the road to heaven was NOT easy?

This is still a Catholic website isn’t it?

How is that interesting? Today many East Germans reminisce about “the good old days” under the DDR. They remember the income equality and communal spirit, but forget the Stasi and the shoddy Russian shoes. Some people here, of course, are already reminiscing about Bush. My conservative father has reminisced about Clinton, who to him was great compared to Obama. Someday people will reminisce about Obama too, even if only for being not as bad as the new guy.

Okay, I consider this to be a dangerous thought. “Islam” doesn’t have goals, it doesn’t want, it doesn’t think, it doesn’t believe, it is not a person and does not have human capabilities. Some Muslims may want to take over the world, but it is pure idiocy, not to mention bigotry, to think that all Muslims have some kind of collective consciousness or bug in their brain that gears them toward world domination. That idea just seems reminiscient of “world Jewry” and it’s diabolocal goals. It’s pure conspiracy the level of organization and direction you ascribe to a disorganized, divided, and sporadic movement.

Since I’m pretty sure most of this nonsense stems from some Mark Steyn-esque muddled sense of demography that leads people to allude to rapidly increasing ‘Muslim’ populations in Europe. I should inform you that the majority of ‘Muslims’ in Europe are non-observant. Even if everyone in Europe is “Muslim” (Turkish/Arab/Pakistani) in 50 years, Europe will only be about as Muslim as France is Catholic. Sometimes I wonder if it;s really “Muslims” people are worried about or just Arabs and Turks.

Yes, maybe some day Americans will look back upon the days of Obama the same way East German’s look back on the DDR. I don’t think that will be a good thing though.

I can only speak of the U.S., and I think their strides have been fairly substantial in my lifetime.

Yes. Reagan was the biggest president that America ever had in the twentieth century. He defined the new revived America in a way unequalled since Lincoln.

The fall of the Soviet Empire was absolutely monumental. Less than twenty years before, in the midst of Watergate, with gas lines and OPEC, and an economy that less spirit than a leaking blow-up doll, with the Communists decisively taking over Vietnam and more people in the world familiar with the name of Marx than Jesus, with America incapable of even taking on the crackpot ayatollahs, many experts were predicting just the opposite of what happened.

USSR looked to be the wave of the future in almost every respect.

And then came Reagan and JPII, with Thatcher mopping up anything that was left over.
The leftist MSM were wrong, and Reagan inaugurate a new world order with a surge of American power and an economic boom that was unprecedented in length and scope.
