Well probably because the US is not under Islamic rule.
The MSM might as well be. They cow before, and self-censor what they say against Islam to an extent that they never will do with Christianity, so as to not cause offense.

Yes. Reagan was the biggest president that America ever had in the twentieth century. He defined the new revived America in a way unequalled since Lincoln.
Big as in tall, I presume. IMO, RR couldn’t shine Roosevelt’s or Truman’s shoes. But, each to his own heroes. 🤷

Reagan’s not a bad hero as far as conservatives go IMO. Could’ve been Strom Thurmond or Jesse Helms. Me personally, I have a bit of a soft spot for Eisenhower for a few reasons.

The disposition of the “MSM” is, however, not remotely the result of some infiltration by Muslims or Islamist apologists. I don’t think most Muslims in the Middle East could care less less what our media say about them. It’s more because self-criticism is generally more popular and more ‘progressive’ than criticism of “the other.” You will also never hear for instance about the role of Buddhism in Japanese imperialism. It’s also why most of the best historians of the Third Reich are German rather than French or Russian. Most societies are more interested in the skeletons in their own closets. Call it civilizational masochism, if you will.

USSR looked to be the wave of the future in almost every respect.
I’m sorry, but could you explain this a little more? The USSR was falling apart by the end of the 1970s. It’s economic system had failed utterly, discontent was on the rise, the Russian population was declining in almost every Soviet republic as a demographic crisis loomed, and they had already fallen far behind the US in the arms race. Whatever Reagan and his contemporaries did, they did not turn the tide of the Cold War. The momentum of history was already behind them.

Yes, those two probably would have been the default heroes for the Right, so Reagan does come out considerable better in comparison.

Uh, huh. I’ve heard it referred to as picking at your own scabs.

Whatever Reagan and his contemporaries did, they did not turn the tide of the Cold War. The momentum of history was already behind them.
They and their apologists, however, did a great job at taking credit for what was already going to happen, come what may.

They sure did. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.” Reagan spoke, and so it was done. I’m sure those East Germans, Poles, Hungarians, Czechs and others who resisted Soviet rule for decades often with arms have a different story about it of course.

I have always looked askance at speculative history. Having lived through that error and studying it in retrospective, I give a great deal of credit both to Reagan and John Paul II. No one person turned the tide, but both of these were the right people, at the right time and did the right thing. From my point of view, I think it takes a prejudice against Republicans to fail and recognize what happened. FYI - I also give Kennedy more credit than most.

Reagan came into town portrayed by the MSM as a rootin’ tootin’ redneck cowboy who would likely get the world blown up on account of his reckless disregard for the nuances of the global system. That was what Rich was doing here.
Most of the left don’t want that remembered though. When it came to the fall of communism, Reagan’s achievement is mind-boggling. Nobody would have believed that it was even possible. This was a big, big win.
The MSM was simply flat out wrong in their assessment, and Reagan is no a hero to the people of Eastern Europe.
The disposition of the “MSM” is, however, not remotely the result of some infiltration by Muslims or Islamist apologists.
The disposition of the MSM has everything to do with the fact that they swing left.
All news is filtered through that perspective. An ABC reporter gets stripped naked and repeatedly sexually assaulted on the streets of Cairo while be sneered at as a Jew, and this does not make the headlines. The story line was one of peaceful democratic demonstrations by friendly, ‘progressive’ young Egyptian professionals. This story does not fit into that storyline, so it gets buried. But for internet news, it would be buried still.

Also, cowardice has a lot to do with it too. There was a time when the Salmon Rushdies would get a little support at least. But the ayatollahs have demonstrated that putting hits out on people makes them think twice before they say something.

Violence works like a charm.
. I don’t think most Muslims in the Middle East could care less less what our media say about them.
I don’t know if ‘most’ do or not. Why would they care what cowards think about them, I guess?

Islamists though, with the full cooperation of the world’s left, do very much have an interest in using the world’s media to get their points across. Terrorism depends very much on the media to be of any effect.
The media is the main weapon in the Islamist’s quiver.
It’s more because self-criticism is generally more popular and more ‘progressive’ than criticism of “the other.”
Yea, 'progressive".😃 There was really a funny Shire network news audio of how Hitler and the Nazis might have been covered by a ‘progressive’ press

Such ‘progressivism’ makes a mockery of the very concept of intelligence actually. It is better known as appeasement, only in retrospect though. Until its utter failure to get peace in our time, it is known as progressive.
You will also never hear for instance about the role of Buddhism in Japanese imperialism.
I don’t think that Buddhism played a huge role role frankly. Japan was trying to emulate the success of the West and show that they were better. Any religion can be brought into to support the goals of a tyrant, but the actual tenets of that religion would not support such wordly pursuits.
It’s also why most of the best historians of the Third Reich are German rather than French or Russian. Most societies are more interested in the skeletons in their own closets. Call it civilizational masochism, if you will.
Bernard Lewis is probably the best historian and analyst of the ME today. When it comes to masochism, Arabs prefer the story line that the left puts out about them, which is of the hapless victim of greedy colonialist imperialism who would have the best civilization in the world, if not for that.
Just remember Obama’s ingratiating speech in Cairo if you don’t believe me.

WWII was a biggie. Ending the war with a nuclear holocaust on two Japanese cities was also huge.
Of course, for Roosevelt, he never did get the economy rolling again. He never solved the depression that he was handed, in spite of all the government largesse that made government bigger, and the citizen smaller as a result.

I think that any other president would have fought the war as vigorously though, and the logic of using a nuclear devise to end this war would have been followed by other presidents too.

On the other hand, what Reagan did in facing down a very frightening USSR went against the common wisdom of the time, as you have already inadvertently noted by repeating all this common wisdom that was being leveled at Reagan during his rise to the office. This took character, and a belief in the American system, and inspiring Americans too to begin to believe in that American system too.
Bottom line, it worked for Reagan, for America, and for the world. Roosevelts solution for the economy at least did not lift the country out of a depression, but the depression just kept coming and coming year after year. Reagan was proceeded by the longest boom that the country or maybe even the world has ever seen.

That is an achievement that can be measured objectively.

I’m sorry, but could you explain this a little more? The USSR was falling apart by the end of the 1970s. It’s economic system had failed utterly, discontent was on the rise, the Russian population was declining in almost every Soviet republic as a demographic crisis loomed, and they had already fallen far behind the US in the arms race. .
That is all in retrospect. The more common story line in the 1970’s was that it was America that was falling apart, America that had lost the Vietnam War, America that had a faltering economy, and America that was more dangerous as a result of doing something rash in response to her waning of power.
In retrospect, the USSR was rotten to the core, but for all appearances they were still on top of the Olympics, they were on the winning side in Vietnam, the leadership seemed for all appearances in firm control.
Dictatorships are all about control of information and secrecy. What was happening within was really not common knowledge. (China was even more closed, virtually unknowable).
Nobody even talked about demographic crisis back then. Overpopulation was deemed to be the big problem of those days. That was what made abortion so ‘progressive’ back then.
It is not enough either that the emperor is riding around with no clothes. Somebody has got to actually say so, before this rule comes to an end.
This is what Reagan did. Only then did people actually begin to realize there was nothing left to come unraveled even.

Big as in tall, I presume. IMO, RR couldn’t shine Roosevelt’s or Truman’s shoes. But, each to his own heroes. 🤷
Ya, I’m more of a Calvin Coolidge man myself. You can have the rest of those big government, nanny state dragoons.

So you’ll go about provoking them.

Why are you advocating of violence?
Did you even read the rest of my post?

Look, you’re smart enough to get the difference between someone being angry as a side effect versus being intentionally provoked. The muslim extremists may not see the difference, but as a rationally thinking Christian you should. You’re obviously choosing to simply ignore that to prove your point. Nobody is arguing that the extremists will still be violent. I’m again suggesting that we shouldn’t do things to intentionally provoke them by insulting their faith… again viewing it as we (as Christians) should and not as “well this is what they would do so this is what we should do”.

In other words me going to mass may offend them, that’s not my fault. But I’m not going to get a copy of the book they deem as sacred and burn it or otherwise disrespect it. Frankly, I’m a better person than that and while I don’t agree with their beliefs I can respect the fact that they hold them as sacred as I do mine.

I don’t expect you to answer this as I’ve brought up the point repeatedly now but just answer to yourself… what WOULD Jesus do? Prior to my decision to convert I used to regard WWJD as some stupid acronym that stupid Christians used on stupid bumper stickers and those annoying little rubber bracelets to shove their faith in my face. I’ve learned better… I now realize that it’s a very simple way to remind us of the way we should view everything. I apologize if it sounds as if I’m questioning your faith… but it seems that you may have forgotten this.
I hear ya…

Not sure I want to keep throwing pearls here 😛
I think you’re right.

I understand that this topic is volatile to say the least but I think it’s gotten to the point now that some are so focused on “us vs them” and “we’re right, they’re wrong” that they forget about the sacred teachings that bring us together here.

I don’t think I ever mentioned the word intentional.

And, America and the world have lived happily ever after.

Praise him, glorify him, deify Reagan if you will. But, know too that not every knee bends at the mention of his name. 🤷

Why not, there are plenty of people who deify Lincoln. Good Lord they build a temple for him in DC where you can go and offer up your worship.

You didn’t… I said that we should treat it as we (as Christians) should, i.e. not burn the quran or hold a mock trial regarding their prophet. You implied that simply “being Christian” would be the same thing as burning the quran by provoking them. I’ve never denied that they may yield the same result… but they are NOT the same thing.

There is no reason to burn someone’s holy book other than to make them angry, this would be intentional provacation. Them getting angry because they don’t like what we believe is entirely different their anger is an indirect result of what we believe.

Again there’s a difference. Are you so hellbent on proving a point that you will continue to refuse recognition of that difference?

Will they be violent regardless of what we do? Yes

Is the attitude “it doesn’t matter what we do they’re going to be violent anyway so why shouldn’t we” a Christian attitude? Of course not.
