It would be interesting to see your answer to a Protestant’s criticism and if any of it might apply to those who ‘appear’ to be worshiping Lincoln in your perception.

Most the responses don’t apply, because, as a Catholic, I believe in the God given teaching authority and mandate of the Church, and that the Holy Spirit protects it from error in order to preserve the integrity of the Gospel. No such thing exists with the myths and lie that surround Abraham Lincoln. The academic cult that protects Lincolns image is no more authoritative to me than the Baseball Hall of Fame. So, as a Catholic, I can rely of the definitive, canonical, and catechismal teachings of the Church to back up my apologia of the veneration of saints. I can refer to the canonization process for each saint, what miracles have been attributed to him or her. Nothing of the sort can be said of Lincoln. Much of his supposed history is pure myth created by Northern abolitionists after the war to preserve the status of emancipation. Additionally, when dealing with a Protestant, I can refer to things taht they will relate to, namely the authority of Scripture to back up my claims. This gives us common footing from which to operate (since most of them will not recognize the authority of the Church).

But I had thought some of this documentation, you use with Protestants, might differentiate the differences between veneration and worship and how one might be able to discern the difference by viewing others in acts of kneeling and praying? Would you agree that no one can view another in the act of kneeling and praying and tell whether those people are venerating, remembering or worshiping?

This has to be one of the oddest lines of questioning I’ve ever seen on CAF. It’s painful to read.

I see your point. However whether or not it’s “illegal” is a matter of who’s law we’re considering. You’re referring to US law of course in which case it’s not illegal.

But for those that defend his actions stating it’s his first amendment right I’m curious, do you not think it would violate God’s laws?

The context is that through the UN initiatives and existing hate speech laws and juman rights commissions in our civil societies, and ayatollahs putting hits out on people, and the threat of violence by enough Muslims against any criticism of their Koran, there has been a sustained push from Muslims at all levels to make their blasphemy laws applicable to all.

As long as disrespectful behavior of the outer fringe is the focus, and not the murder that is done by those who take offense, the very concept of law is being perverted.

The pastor is irrelevant really. It is between him and God.
But the threat of murder against any who do treat the Islam religon like Muslims might like is higly relevant. This affects us all. It affects the very concept of freedom in general.

Why then focus remains on the petty sins of a silly little preacher? This is akin to puffing out a candle as the solution to global warming.

Very well said. But I’m beyond Jones and whether or not he’s in anyway responsible for the violence involved, some believe he is, some disagree and neither will see eye to eye on that point. I understand what you’re saying, and I apologize to anyone if I’ve come across as defending the actions of the “offended”… I’m not. I do realize that is the larger concern. I’m simply saying we shouldn’t be considering any similar actions as some have suggested.

Look, Bibles are being desecrated all over the Muslim world often. So are churches and even people are being killed and you don’t see violent christian mobs in the western world killing innocent people or doing random sick things in response to all the garbage that we have to take.

Islam doesn’t teach to turn the other cheek. I dated a muslim guy and he told me quite plainly that in his culture you learn never to say “please forgive me” or “I am sorry”, and to defend your own honour even when you are the one who have messed up.

. All the facts prove one thing, that we as Christians are not to kill, hit or desecrate, but we are OBLIGED to get educated and tell the world what a false ism islam is and how it leads into nothingness.

IN Christianity, in which whatsoever we do unto the least of our brother, so we do unto Christ, where we are invited to see the light of Christ shining through the souls of Christians, the ultimate desecration is being committed by the Muslim world against Christians each and every day.
Dhimmitude, up to and including the executions of ex-Muslims who commit to Christ, is the greatest blasphemy of all. God himself is literally being murdered in such horrendous acts, murder in the name of Allah himself, no less.

For many cultures, saying sorry would be an ultimate source of shame, and looked upon as effeminate. Such is the fate of a people who have not been blessed with the sacrament of reconciliation or even the concept of the the infinite forgiveness of Christ, in which even murdering God has been forgiven us, if we only say that we are sorry.
