Thanks for sharing your perspective and asking a great question.I think my question is, when does the cross become so heavy that even God would not want it for us? I ask for forgiveness every day, every time I pray. Sometimes, my prayers are nothing but asking for forgiveness. But I do not expect things to get better for having asked. I really don’t; it seems like a different subject completely. And I am just one teeny tiny thread away from falling irrevocably apart for the burden. I firmly believe He does not want this for me. He will make good use of this, that’s for sure. And I firmly believe that the Holy Spirit is telling me something that is SO far beyond me. I am in no way above bearing this cross. But I do feel woefully unable to bear it. And I ask forgiveness for that first and foremost…
Perhaps we are using asking forgiveness in different manners. I am using asking forgiveness in similar context to the act of repentance and reconciliation. I definitely agree in not expecting things to get better for having asked for forgiveness, however, I know to expect things to get better when having asked for forgiveness and dedicating change to greater patience, kindness, and reliance on God in heart/feelings, mind/thoughts, and strength/will.
To answer the question, here are a few perspectives to consider:
Our Lord, Jesus, showed us that the cross will be too heavy on the day that unjust public humiliation and torture, to the point of earthly death, occurs.
Given that I know many of my sufferings are completely just for the many sins I have committed throughout my life, my cross will never be heavy enough in comparison to our Lord’s.
Although God does not want a cross for you, He does want you to embrace the cross as leadership for others. The path to God’s heavenly kingdom is paved by embracing the cross. My friend, I thank you for doing your best to embrace your role in God’s plan, and may your journey be as peaceful as possible.
I absolutely enjoy learning how to better embrace the cross, so if you would ever like to hear or share some ideas on how to improve our ability to embrace the cross, please ask or share!
