I doubt he’s getting 5 auxiliaries anytime soon…for starters, that’s too many auxilaries for Detroit…Chicago only has 5 right now…and our last ordination was something like 3 years ago.

It’s always good when a local priest comes to lead a diocese.

I, of course, find MrS laughable in his assessment that all these new bishops are better than their predecessors. It’s not a game of comparisons, each episcopal reign is different than the previous…different than the next…
In bringing Bishop Vigneron back to Michigan, it is quite possible that the “problems-overlooked-by-frommi” are more visible to those with eyes to see.

I would not doubt the Cardinals Rigali and Szoka had a voice in this decision.

If the changes made so far by Carlson and Boyeau are seen as positive, how can anyone deny they are better than their predecessors?

I would not be suprised to see Fr Riccardo as a bishop soon either.

.

I would so love to go to his installation Mass. Any ideas how one goes about doing such a thing?

I pray for him - he has a tough crowd of VERY VERY liberal priests and others in Detroit. I hope he can clean house for us, it is so very desperately needed.
Not only that he can clean house, but that those that were already here in the AOD haven’t caused so much trouble that he gets worn out or frustrated before he can make the differences we need.:o

I mean, I love Adam Cardinal Maida… but I think that’s mostly because I like to think that I love every one. But as a Bishop???

(who knows where I can get an emoticon of a head shaking?)

(Editted, since I had someone to ‘gift’ me a shaking head)

:nope: :nope: :nope: :nope:

Some changes are positive, others some times aren’t. It’s not an exact science. You hope that the church keeps building itself up. Too many people in these forums try too hard to read tea leaves about what an episcopal appointment means.

It’s been 4 years some Robert Carlson took over in Saginaw…I see the same priests, hear the same preaching, etc. He has a different public persona than the former bishop…but other than bringing in a batch of seminarians from Columbia who don’t speak any English…I haven’t seen what is so ‘boldly different’.

This is awesome… really awesome…, news for Detroit.

Now we have Carlson and Boyea and Vigneron… what a “holy trinity” and how much better they ALL are than their former bishops.

Liberals look out. It may take some years, but the strength of faith, and the visibility of the faith will now return to our poor state. We may have a bleak economic outlook… but the future is light and bright in the Church.

.
finally some good news about Detroit, they really need it to counteract all the bad (and I am not just talking about the Lions).
You got that right, anni!

And guess what? My husband gets to vest!!! http://yetanotherplaceofourown.com/forum/images/smilies/woot.gif http://yetanotherplaceofourown.com/forum/images/smilies/woot.gif http://yetanotherplaceofourown.com/forum/images/smilies/woot.gif

The good bishop has the answer. He will feed the lions to the Christians !.
HAAAA HAAAA HAAAAA :rotfl: That was funny MrS…

I really hope our new bishop is as orthodox as I have heard. That can really be nothing but good for AOD.

Oh boy, oh boy oh boy !!!

The new archbishop who made great decisions as rector of Sacred Heart Seminary and who is highly regarded by Al Kresta of Ave Maria Radio, and supports Catholic radio - boy look out.

I must pray for him. Such a good appointment. I can’t wait to talk to my neighbor Paco Gavrilides and fellow parishioners Dr. Peter Williamson - teaches at Sacred Heart and Dr. Dan Keating as to what impact this appointment has.

By the way - Bishop Carlson of the Diocese of Saginaw, cleaned-up the mess that was at St. Mary’s Student Chapel at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

The new archbishop is a great but sadly to late for the election, appointment. This is an act of the mercy of God.

Thank you Jesus our Lord !!!

Regards,

Lets hope he does something with the Left Coast of the Arch-Diocese (i.e. the western Suburbs 😛 ) and maybe give the Order of Canon Regulars of the Holy Cross (ORC) a parish over on that side of the Arch-Diocese.

As for the Lions, 0-32 is next 😃
Hey! I’ll have you know that we are the only team in NFL with a perfect record - both pre-season and regular season! This is my avatar on other boards:

Oh, I do hope you are correct. Our bishop reached his 75th birthday last year and is awaiting his replacement. I don’t want to disclose which diocese I’m in, but it is very very liberal and we are virtually practicing our faith in a de facto schism in some of the parishes. We are ardently praying for a bishop who can set things right, but the error and rebellion is widespread (some of it bordering on scandal,) and has been going on forever. What a difficult situation for anyone to walk into - however would they cope? I think change of the magnitude we need around here would take quite a while to accomplish.

Please pray for those of us in the Oakland Diocese. For those who don’t know the geography we are in Northern California right next to San Francisco. We are facing so many challenges. Your prayers would be appreciated.

By the way, I am finally receiving Confirmation at the cathedral on Jan. 17 with Bishop Vigneron.

Anybody from California out there, specifically Oakland to comment on what the general perception was of Vigneron?

If he was well liked? Respected? Made tons of changes right away?
I would say that there’s both love and not-so-love for Bishop Vigneron out here, especially the latter from the more liberal Catholic schools at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. He founded a confraternity for Eucharistic devotion and is a familiar sight in the local TLM parish.

He also published a very clear defense of marriage in the face of the legalization of same-sex “marriage” in CA (that has been and continues to be much criticized in letters to the editor to the diocesan paper).

It could be argued that he was also, slowly, making some personnel changes at the chancery. There has been a lot of turnover since Bishop Cummins’ time. Who knows what the new bishop will be like, especially considering some of the recent episcopal appointments in California?

Bishop Vigneron’s Christmas message was particularly moving.

Detroit’s gain is certainly our loss.

Those were my thoughts in reverse when he left here for Oakland. I know that Bishop Vigneron would have continued to do great things in Oakland.

On the plus side, this, along with other recent appointments, will show bishops that faithfulness to the Magisterium will be rewarded by Rome.

As Christ said,
Well done, my good and faithful servant. You were faithful with a smaller matter , I will put you in charge of larger things; come, enter into the joy of your master
Mt 25:23

That might inspire others to make profitable use of the Wealth of Church teachings deposited in their See’s by Rome and not to bury them in the ground of obscurity.

This morning the Vatican announced the following changes in the US hierarchy:

Adam Joseph Cardinal Maida retired and Archbishop-designate Allen Henry Vigneron was named Archbishop of Detroit, Michigan, USA.

Archbishop-designate Vigneron had been serving as Bishop of Oakland, California.
I was about to post the story as great news! I am from the Oakland Diocese and he was the Bishop who presided my confirmation! He’s a great Bishop. I am sure he’ll do just a s good if not better as the Archnishop of Detroit!

It’s sad news for us since he will be greatly missed.

Detroit is a fine Diocese, I think, and should prosper from a man that is said to be very focused.
VERY well liked and respected! He did soooo much good for our Diocese! Hey, he’s the one who got our Cathedral built. We have been waiting since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake to get it replaced!

And on the personal level… he donated funeral services and a grave spot for both my babies since I couldn’t afford it… with me he made a great exeption to add 2 babies in one grave… long story, but I know we’re going to miss him lots!

Get.There.Early.

The installation Mass is at 2pm. You should probably plan to be there no later than noon or 12:30. They will be set up for a huge crowd, and if you’ve never heard the diocesan choir, you are in for a treat! The front pews will be reserved for the VIPs, but the Mass is open to the public.

I hope he is as able to clean house here as he did at the Seminary, where the teachers and seminarians must be in overload for joy.

.
From some of the things I have heard about old liberal guard who was still (as of his tenure being Rector) in place, I’d doubt that everyone there is all that excited.

Yeah - follow me. I’m taking the day off and plan on going. although, I don’t know if it is open to the public. I’ll check.

BTW - I’m going to be doing a post series on Bp Vigneron at my blog. I think there are some good things worth discussing and didn’t want to cram them all into one post.

I’ve been taking classes at Sacred Heart for quite a while now. There are a couple of ‘old guard’ left, but the vast majority now are rock solid. And the remaining ‘old guard’ know better than to say too much 😉

And they will say even less now 😛
