The greatest emphasis ought be placed on the abuser, and when it’s systemic it’s even more important to acknowledge so it can come to a halt. That servant who knows his master’s will but does not get ready or follow his instructions will be beaten with many blows. But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.

“caring about the victims” is entirely another topic, best handled through way of verbs than nouns.

That doesn’t work in a secular context.

The point of my post is that other institutions are not scrutinized in like manner as the church is.

Media narratives do seem to strongly affect the hearts and minds of some men which then become a basis for division.

They are disproportionately targeted by police because of the view that they do commit more crimes.

The more they are targeted by police, the more crimes will be caught. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Another ethnic group may be committing more crimes than blacks but since they are not really targeted by police, they get away with it and get to keep their reputation as “law abiding” citizens.

For example Asian Americans may be running a drug cartel but since they’re not really considered as an ethnic group with an inclination to criminal behavior their crimes tend to fly under the radar.

There is something about this.
One belongs to a group that is by default labelled somehow.
And then it takes twice the effort if not more to break away from those preconceptions. At least with individual people , on an individual level.
I tend to agree with this , Sarcelle.

It is not fact but data that has been gathered through biased testing.

Biased testing will give you biased data.

If you are a shop owner and are convinced that some people shoplift more than other people, you will likely be more on the lookout for people that fit your biases and of course tend to catch more of them.

Meanwhile people that don’t fit your biases may be robbing you blind but you don’t catch them in the act.

In the end the data gathered by your own biased testing will only serve to reinforce that bias.

As @graciew said, it’s a vicious circle.

Yes I’ll assume the Bureau of Justice Statistics is just biased, that way I can ignore the data.

Ignoring the truth won’t solve any problems.
 
And where does that bureau get their data?

From cops?

The bias is there whether you like to see it or not.

There are a number of black people being falsely reported to police for doing non-criminal mundane things which just shows the reality of that bias.

Racism is still alive and well. It has not been cured.

So the Black community is targeted by police because of the view that they commit more crime and not because they actually DO commit more crime?

So from your post I can infer that you are stating police have a racial bias against Blacks?

Does this racial bias extend to Black cops as well?

I don’t know.

It may or it may not.

One can be biased against one’s own group.

You can look at data and not know whether it’s biased or not and act on it.

So a black police officer will keep in mind that black people are more likely to commit crimes not due to any racism but due to what’s been told to him by higher ups and therefore keep a more vigilant watch on black people.

Same thing for any police officer that isn’t black.

The point is the idea is out there that black people commit more crimes and people, both cops and civilians, act on it.

This is why you see a lot of false reports to police even when the reported person is doing non-threatening activities like selling bottled water, attending a pool party or bird watching.
