Bill Maher actually tweeted: “Obama made a lot of great points tonight. Unfortunately, most of them were for Romney”.

Another Bill Maher tweet: “i can’t believe i’m saying this, but Obama looks like he DOES need a teleprompter.”

Overall great debate.
I think this format was the best one I’ve ever seen…there was real back and forth between the candidates and Lehrer stayed out of it and mostly (but not completely) neutral. Entered into US political lexicon: “trickle down government.”

There were no true knockout punches…no real gaffs…

Advantage: Romney

I didn’t watch the debate. I thought about watching it but I needed to take a nap more than I needed to watch the debate because my mind is already made up. :o;)😛

Undecided voters in focus group swing sharply toward Romney; Frank Luntz: ‘I’ve never seen anything like this’; CBS post-debate poll shows big win for Romney

Mark Knoller’s tweets
Scientifically representative poll conducted by phone of 523 uncommitted voters who agreed to watch the debate
Poll shows Romney narrowed gap on empathy. 63% now say Romney cares about their needs and problems (up from 30% before debate)
Poll shows 56% of uncommitted voters say their opinion of Romney has changed for the better. 13% say that about the President
CBS News Poll of uncommitted voters shows 46% pick Mitt Romney as debate winner. 22% say it was Pres Obama. 32% call it a tie

That is the key word: Romney looked presidential. More so than the incumbent.
Obama looked like he always does to me. He isn’t as good of an orator as people seem to think. He seemed good in 2007 during the last campaign because Bush is just so bad at giving speeches. Obama is good, but he isn’t great.

The next presidential debate should be good. Obama does NOT like to lose, and he doesn’t like looking like he doesn’t have a command of the facts. I’m sure his staff is cringing under the verbal tirade he is giving to them right now, and will be ordered to do an all-nighter to start preparing briefing books for Debate #2.

What happened tonight is a natural consequence of having a record low number of press conferences, doing interviews with “Glamour” and “Vogue,” and appearing on “The View” and telling a mob of sycophantic women that you’re “eye candy.” Also, not having a defensible policy.

The fun part in the next debate is that Obama, after being raked over the coals by every Democratic columnist in tomorrow’s papers for being on the defensive, can be counted upon to overcommit and will become surly and nasty and even more arrogant, which will please his base but turn off uncommitted voters. Watch for it.

He should have read Hugh Hewitt’s column on Obama’s “tells” during his debates.

washingtonexaminer.com/obamas-poker-tells/article/2509417#.UG0HUo7iZMJ

He did every one of them, especially when he looked down and got that ticked-off, defensive scowl whenever Romney was talking:

“If either does, we will be treated to “tell No. 4,” the president’s feigned outrage that anyone would interrupt or question him. When this happens, his countenance displays a disapproving sneer and his voice clouds with displeasure. It is practiced. It is also profoundly anti-democratic and arrogant, and if he plays this card on this stage, it will backfire.”

Entered into US political lexicon: “trickle down government.”
I laughed at that one. What a clever way of bringing Reagan into the debate. He turned around a flailing economy and was ridiculed with “trickle down economics”. Now Obama is doing the opposite of how Reagan saved the economy, and so he called it “trickle down government”. To misquote a bumper sticker, unfortuantely, I have been trickled on by Obama.

Romney had at least one major opportunity that he missed tonight which was to bring the topic of the 10th Amendment into the discussion. He mentioned it in passing, but he didn’t explain it or drive it home the way he should have.

With a gift of a topic for a republican like the scope of government, he should have recited the 10th Amt. and then used it to explain why the President’s ideas were not only bad, but unconstitutional. There was a major window there, if only he would have opened it.

Once he made that point, he could have then tied it to his answers to the questions on education and health care where he discussed letting states handle it to a large degree. I believe that would have resonated strongly with the American people.

I turned it on very briefly and it was when Romney was talking about banks. then I turned the channel to something else…and then turned it back again a few minutes later…and it was Obama speaking…muted the television and turned the debates off then…and back to something more interesting.

Oh, and the VP debates…one devout Catholic (Paul Ryan) vs one who thinks wearing ashes on Ash Wednesday makes him Catholi (Biden).

I did not watch the debate. Instead, another parishioner and I knelt in front of the tabernacle prayed for Romney one hour before the debate starts, until half way the debate was over. . Before we left the church, we lighted a candle to continue carrying our prayers. I also prayed all the way home for Romney. Basically, I prayed two hours non-stop for Romney tonight.

I am so grateful to find out it was a Romney night!! Thank God! Let’s keep on praying day and night without ceasing!

That’s the best reason I ever heard for running for president. Just think of all the prayers…

You are awesome. All of us (conservatives) thank you for your prayers.

MSNBC is talking about how well Obama did and how poorly Romney did.

(Just had to turn it on to see what Obama supporters are watching.)
Which MSNBC were you watching? On the one I was watching, including Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz, Al Sharpton, Steve Schmidt, etc., all said Romney won the debate, which he did.
Code:
Obama had a bad night and Romney a good one: that is undeniable. I thought Romney was particularly strong at the beginning although he more than held his own throughout. His closing statement was rather lame but Obama's wasn't great either. The portion on Medicare and the voucher program seemed to me Romney's weakest moment and Obama's strongest, relatively speaking. The comparison was drawn between this debate and the first one between Kerry and George W. Bush, in which Kerry won and Bush looked tired.
I have a couple of questions for everyone. When Romney stated his health plan provides for preexisting conditions, is that true? I thought it provided only for those people who currently have preexisting conditions. Also, is it correct, as Romney affirmed more than once, that he never stated he wanted to reduce the deficit by 5 trillion dollars?

I think what we have seen here is either the real Romney or, more likely, yet another reincarnation of his multifaceted persona. Regardless, his debate performance was very good. And, I might add, Jim Lehrer appeared surprisingly incompetent tonight in controlling the procedure of the debate.

IMO If Mr Obama loses…The socialists will turn on him, like rabid rats. It will be ALL his fault.

.
What I heard Romney say is that he would reduce the tax rate of small businesses while decreasing loopholes. Which would be minus 5 trillion and then plus 5 trillion which would be net change of 0.

I did not watch the debate until the very end. I was at our Red Mass praying for all those in the law and civil authority, so I guess that means we were praying for President Obama, not so he would do well in the debate, but that he and others would act in accord with natural law. Bishop Rhoades, who has a doctorate in canon law said a lot that President Obama does not like to hear about, like marriage, the right to life, and religious liberty. Then we had a quick meal and our regular choir practice.

I also heard Romney say that there are 3 ways to reduce the deficit. Raise taxes, reduce spending and grow the economy. He said raising taxes reduces the growth of the economy, which causes less reduction of deficit. He compared Obama tax rate as what is happening to Spain and said we do not want to be like Spain.

The comparison was drawn between this debate and the first one between Kerry and George W. Bush, in which Kerry won and Bush looked tired…
No fair! I’ve already invented that excuse that Obama was just so busy being president, was so tired and worn out, probably had an international crisis, that he just wasn’t himself.
